David Hamilton’s ‘Manukau Songs: A Choral Symphony’ is a major work for orchestra, choir, children’s choir and soloists, captured at its premiere performance in this SOUNZ Film from the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau.
David celebrates the natural beauty of the wider Manukau area with uplifting settings of words by Yvonne Amery and Te Paea Tīaho (Ngāti Mahuta) for the voices of Stephen Diaz (counter-tenor), James Ioelu (bass), Auckland Choral and the choir of Puhinui School.
The Manukau Symphony Orchestra, commissioner of the work, is conducted by its inspirational Music Director Uwe Grodd.
With audio recorded by Paul McGlashan.
Film funded by NZ On Air.

Wonderful! Bravo! Encore!
Gush: Fabulous work David, ‘Colours’ gave me goosebumps all over again. Thank you MSO for commissioning and performing new works and happy birthday! The children did so well with David’s usual delightful children chorus writing
Love the works you offer us on this Channel....particularly the choral ones (!) - this is another very enjoyable 45 mins.. Thank you - from England.
