It is indeed a great treat to discover this superb video presentation of this outstanding performance (which I listened to over the Internet here in the U.S. when originally broadcast by RNZ Concert in 2015).
My introduction to the Lilburn Second Symphony came from a 1988 CD on the old Stradivari Classics label (SCD 8004), with the NZSO conducted by Ashley Heenan (who also conducted Diversions for String Orchestra, with the NZBC Schola Musicum); included on the disc was John Hopkins and the NZSO performing a quite lovely and idiomatic reading of the iconic Aotearoa Overture.
Over the years, my collection grew to include the recording of the three symphonies and the Aotearoa Ov. with James Judd and the NZSO.
Thank you so much for posting this; cheers!

One of my favourite symphony of all music literature. Second movement is a summit.

The 1st movement is quite hair-raising with trumpets ringing out splendidly in the middle section. A great symphony.

This is often said but to me he sounds more like Nielsen and Sibelius. But in fact, he had a strong and immediately recognizable 'voice' all his own.

For my money this is his best work. What a shame that shortly afterwards he headed off into the cu--de-sac of electronic 'music'...
