@@sin3556 The Avalon Ending, titled "Last Episode" was added to the game when it went to PS2 as Realta Nua. The PC versions you can patch with english also have realta nua content. If you have voice acting, for instance, you have the right version. That said, you also have to unlock it by getting every possible ending as well as the Tiger Dojo bad ends, which can be tricky.

I love how both Archers in the main timeline don't actually use bows, instead just throwing shit at their opponent or just, generally fighting them in melee half the time
Much of those detective stories are still not translated. Anyway, i dont think the maker of this video has actually engaged in playing the VNs and reading the other fate works or TYPEMOON franchises (when translations are available). He seems to have enjoyed only the anime series and filled in the holes of understanding thanks to the TYPEMOON wiki.

@Saki Maro Tell me I am missing the point by saying that the Stay Night series; is just the same story being told from different perspectives, so that the MC can get it in with all of the main heroines and to keep us interested we get further backstory about the characters and the origins.

Fate/Stay Night at its most fundamental is about a boy whose entire life revolves around dying for an ideal trying to both come to terms with what that ideal entails along with the emptiness that pervades him. Each of the routes are about different perspectives on his ideal and how Shirou acts in response to those perspectives. In Fate, he sees the success of one who followed a similar path to his through Saber who would give him a goal other than simply fulfilling that ideal. In UBW, he is forced to confront his ideal and its borrowed and impossible nature coming to the conclusion that despite being borrowed and despite being impossible it should still be strived for not because it’s his impulse to do so but because he genuinely believes that it’s important. In HF, he is instead confronted with the choice of either killing his ideal or the one he loves. In this case his ideal changes, instead of being purely for the sake of saving everyone he instead focuses on those close to him. Each of these in some way deal with the emptiness inside him. TL;DR: The three routes are explorations into Shirou’s psyche and morality. In this way the heroines of each route, while interesting characters in and of themselves, act as plot devices for these journeys to happen.
You missed something about what happened to Bazett. She didn't fight Kirei. She was actually ambushed by him. They actually have a history of working together before, so she was comfortable around him, leading to him backstabbing her, taking her arm, command seals, and Lancer. It adds context to his deceptive ways, as this is now the second time he's done this(Tokiomi). While his deaths in the Fate and Unlimited Blade Works routes are lame, his death in the UBW route at least ends up being poetic, backstabbed by Lancer, who was only his after backstabbing Lancer's original Master, Bazett. Also, getting stabbed by the Azoth dagger in the Fate route ends up being poetic too. That was the dagger he stabbed Tokiomi with too.

I always feel so bad for Artoria. She was cheated in life when Lancelot and Mordred were the downfall of her kingdom, and then she's always getting the short stick as a spirit. She gets cheated in Zero, that one scene in UBW that I find hard to find watch and in Heavens feel when she's killed by Emia. I just want her to have a happy story and not constantly getting used and backstabbed. Of all the routes, her ONLY happy ending was the Avalon ending. I wish there were more
Ataraxia is best hands down. It's a therapeutic story after reading/watching the other three main routes lol. And the conversations between Bazett and Angra is the most hilarious things I've read in the whole series. 10/10 would recommend.

Not exactly, Caster's incomplete Assassin did count as a slot fill by the Grail. It was Zouken that had "complete" the summoning to call the True Assassin that the Grail has been selecting all the time: Hassan.
Pretty much. Assassin was a false servant. That's why he was fated to vanish. In the UBW route he manages to remain in existence until the last day of the War by sheer will just to honor his promise to Saber.
Hmm... i guess that solves one mystery. How did the Grail acheive completion at the end of UBW? In Fate/Zero it was pointed out that 6 Heroic Spirit sacrifices are needed to activate it. We know that both Artoria and EMIYA are still alive at this point and thus only 5 Heroic Spirits were eliminated... until you count Hassan. 1)Medusa, 2)Medea, 3)Hassan, 4)Heracles, 5)Cu Chulain and 6)Kojirou. (Kojirou may not be a proper servant, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a Heroic Spirit) I'm guessing Gilgamesh must've killed Hassan when he went to the Matou Estate with Shinji and Kirei, being the supervisor, would definitely have known about the existence of True Assassin.
@Saki Maro Yeah, I know that. But 6 is enough to get the grail into a active state. In Fate/Zero's case, the Grail became active with the Heroic Spirits of 1)Hassan, 2)Gille De Rais, 3)Diarmuid, 4)Iskandar, 5)Lancelot and 6)Artoria (her mana went dry after using Excaliber).

I think I know why I grew to love the fate series of its explanation of good, evil and purpose. It, imo, tells a story of people wanting their wishes granted by having to crush others. Which than shows that no wish was ever worth it having to ruin others. Another thing of a lesson that is reminded in the series is that people should never look down on themselves no matter the circumstances as it will only make it worse. Thank you for the videos man ^^

Bobby Aditya Eka Pratama Well the version I'm referring to is the original VN that had a lot of sex stuff in Heaven's Feel. When they released the VN as Realta Nua they took out a lot of the sex so I'm not sure how much of that will be in the Heavens Feel movie. They replaced the good old fashioned (replenish your mana with sperm) with different magic rituals.

Also, Cu Chulainn got his name from killing the guard dog(hound) of a blacksmith named Culainn, who made spears for his uncle/King.

@@redfrog9717 I know this is 10 months old but Fate Zero is just as canon or non-canon as Hollow Ataraxia - Same Universe different timeline. So it is not the direct prequel to any of the VN Time lines but has it's own timeline. What Nasu said is basically that. So it's "non-canon" in the sense that it doesn't relate to the original. But "canon" in the Nasuverse as that is a clusterfuck anyways :D

yo I love all your fate videos. I always liked the whole fate series but after watching all your vids it makes me love fate even more and all the lore is so interesting.
And finally, I find the one and only lore video of the fate franchise…… though I would gladly say that this is definitely a (or two) great video, but it feels more like a story analysis rather than a lore video. Many origin and reasons were left untouched, for instant, how did the Holy Grail system works? What is the original purposes of heroic spirit? How did the fate universe differs from other universe such as tsukihime and garden of sinners, or how did it splits into it's spinoff titles? Zelretch? What is Magic in the nasuverse and it's interesting concept of magecraft? Many of the above topics and many more are not mentioned, while the answers lays in plain sight for those who search for it, it will be interesting for you to make videos on it. I'm looking forward to this type of future content ( though not one fate video on RUclips mentioned about those as long as I'm concerned) And finally, great job! subscribed ;)
To be perfectly honest, a lot of that stuff is a lot harder to get a canon answer on since it's buried in supplemental materials. Essentially, I tried to avoid anything that couldn't be explained clearly and dramatically. It's hard to do that for a key concept that's only mentioned in one sentence. That said it'd be fun to make individual videos about each of the heroic spirits. The reason I don't is because the only time we really hear about their pasts is during Hollow Ataraxia. I plan on keeping this up but info can be scarce and vague. I don't want to have to make my own interpretation^^;
OtakuDaiKun If you're interested in the source informations, here are some places that you can find. While some are in those supplemental materials more specificly the fate complete material, many more are explained in spinoffs (though some did made it more complicated) where unexpectedly, FGO contains quite a few of it. The wikia also did a very good job explaining the lore and settings as well. While accuracy of informations are important, there's still plenty of room for anyone to speculate, don't hesitate to interpret unclear lore, as that's where the fun comes in, isn't it?

I enjoyed it. And I am so so happy to hear about that extra in nuvo retna (or however it's spelled.) But you got a few things wrong that I noticed. Kiritsugu was unable to give Shiro the crest, whether he wanted to or not. You didn't mention that Kotomine is also at fault for rins mother's state. When it comes to Gill, he was showered in the darkness of the grail and it's said that it drove him a little insane, and he claims the darkness would have destroyed any other heroic spirit or human, and basically didn't destroy him because he was already a bit of a dick. Additionally with Gill the darkness of the grail didn't allow him to live, any servant can exist after the war if continually supplied with mana as far as I can see, its just that most would never stoop to the depths that would be necessary for such a thing.

You didn't mention survival guilt and other psychological complexes of shirou which he was suffering after the fire which destroys fuyuki city. When you are talking about shirou's character. It is important because it tells he's ideal was not naive. Actually he is polar opposite to kirei kotomine who saves other just to fill his psychological needs. On the other hand, kotomine fills his psychological need by destruction.

I really like the videos you have made for the Nasuverse stories and worlds, they serve as a good place to clear up confusion for people who haven't played/read/watched all the parts of the stories. That said there are usually a few things misinterpreted or missed out in these videos. A few key points of note regarding the F/SN verse that have been missed for example: - Hero EMIYA is not the future of any of the three F/SN route Shirous. He is a Shirou who experienced something similar to the Fate route but never got that close to Saber and thus was unable to truly reaffirm his ideals. This is important as in Fate route Shirou's romance with Saber teaches him to never regret the past no matter how bad it turns out & to not give up on his ideals even if the outcome isn't what he was wishing for (It is for this reason that he was able to indefinitely pursue Saber & reach Avalon). - In F/HA the universe mishmash occurs due to one of Rin's experiment on the Second Magic going wrong. As a result different people in the story remember different futures (esp, Shirou who remembers multiple timelines). Also, after the time-loop is broken only Bazett & Caren remember the events of the loop. Caren is the one whose avatar transfers the memories of the events of the loop to her real self as it was an artificial avatar. Shirou might have retained a few flashes of images or feelings but not the entire recollection of events. That is why he recognizes neither Bazett nor Caren when they meet in the real world. As we see in the epilogue the mishmash reality is the actual reality of Fuyuki City & not the Holy Grail's fault.
Small note: The Greater Grail very specifically summons heroic servants from history/mythology but heroic spirit Emiya became a counter guardian, who is part of the deturant force. He can thus be summoned the any time/place because he is no longer part of the normal flow of time. Kinda the reason Rin didn't figure out Archer's identity.
Upon examination, a random intruder into the fifth HGW could very likely expect one Servant in particular to be their first opponent. Shirou didn’t even know the war existed until he stumbled on Rin, Archer and Lancer, Saber was the last of the primary seven summoned, and primarily concerned with protecting Shirou. Medea was focused on obtaining magical energy and shoring up her defenses at Ryuudou temple. Kuzuki and Kojirō are both stuck guarding her (Kuzuki by choice, Kojirō by necessity), Heracles does nothing without Illya’s command and she is laser-focused on Shirou, seeking revenge. Gilgamesh would most likely refuse to even acknowledge any newcomers unless they did something that pressed one of his many buttons, perfectly confident that he’s so far above everyone. Saber Alter and True Assassin can’t be summoned without the loss of Artoria and Kojirō, and Zouken is content to spend most of his time watching from the shadows and putting pressure on poor Sakura. All that in mind, anyone stumbling into the war could reasonably expect to face one of three teams: Rin and Archer, Shinji and Rider or Lancer. Of those three, Shinji would probably prefer to spend his initial time draining mana from innocent people and only confront the others once he felt he was invincible. Rin meanwhile was focused on learning what the other Masters and Servants were up to, and might overlook a sudden newcomer. By this logic, the very first Servant one could expect to face is actually Lancer, outright ordered to seek out and test the abilities of the other Servants. With that long-winded explanation out of the way, how do you imagine you would react if left face to face with the Hound of Culann? What do you think you’d do?
Heaven's Feel was weird as it's the only one we haven't seen fully animated. I think reading about it and actually seeing it happen are going to be completely different experiences.

It’s not that Shiro’s father never got the chance to pass down his magic crest the anime flat out states that he refused to do so because he view his family knowledge to be too dangerous to be passed on considering his own father’s work and knowledge would also be passed down.

(Although this is just my own opinions on this matter, so don't take it as truth) And, I don't think it could have been done without coming off as awkward exposition which makes it even worse. But, in the beginning of the UBW anime, many people see Shirou as a generic shonen protagonist, and even a bit of a white knight since he doesn't want Saber to fight. (Despite having a reason that actually makes sense; he's self sacrificing to the point of absolute ridiculousness. He can't stand seeing anyone get hurt for his sake, and that's why after seeing Saber nearly die because of Berseker he doesn't want her to fight anymore.) Anyways, it is really unfortunate that Shirou gets as much hate as he does. He's a fantastically written character, (he's even a subversion of classic shonen protagonists in some ways) and it really sucks to me that he's seen as just another generic anime character.

A good deal of it at least. She remembers Kiritsugu but doesn't tell Shirou in order to avoid ruining him as an idol and role model. She remembers Iri but doesn't recognize Illya at first because she's surprisingly young. She never learns Gilga's identity but she does recognize him as the previous archer.
Kirei was the guardian of Rin and was in charge of Tohsaka's finance. This is the reason why we can see how Rin became penny pinching when Tokiomi was rich. Kirei ruined the Tohsaka's finances deliberately. EMIYA was not a proper heroic spirit due to the lack of fame. He was only able to get into the Throne by being a Counter Guardian. The reason why Saber didn't realise that Illya was the daughter of Irisviel at first was because Saber thought that Irisviel's daughter would have already aged and that Illya was just another Einzbern homunculus. Kirei was weaker in Fate Stay Night as he was dead at the end of Fate Zero and was then revived by the grail. This is why Kirei's heart became just grail mud. In a sense, he was similar to Kiritsugu in the sense that the grail was killing him off slowly too.

Hey Otaku! I was just wondering, Do you know why Archer aka Emiya in the fate series never shows any feelings towards Saber or Rin? How I get it is that in the saber route he loves saber and in a way beccomes a heroic spirit to be with her in Avalon? And in UBW he loves Rin but Archer dont really show anything big while being her heroic spirit. Is this just because that archer is from another "worldline" or that he dosent remeber his past self that mouch?
KashimZero I think it's subtle but Archer likes teasing and provoking both Rin and Artoria. I believe he definitely remembers some part of his life with them. That said, Archer, when he doesn't try to kill himself, no longer considers himself Shirou but rather the product of his ideals. I view it like Saber and Rin are ex lovers. That said, I think the Archer from the end of the Fate route is still trying to seek Artoria in Avalon.
So in a way he goes "Emo" like he dont really give a f''' about anything besides getting out of this loop, when he has to kill people? I that case I really feel sad for Saber who is soppose to wait for him, But then again i cant say i know how it would effect me if i were to go around "killing people for the greater good" for centuries. KashimZero Archer is a Shirou who participated in the 5th HGW who allied himself with Rin but never gained romantic feelings for Rin or Artoria... One thing confirmed by the VN is that all of the 3 route Shirous has the potential to become Archer but never does since the chance of them turning to Archer is close to Zero because of their "Answers"... What's also known is that Archer seems to have feelings for Ilya from HF route... From other materials like Fate/Extra... it's been shown that Archer made a pact with "The World" to give him a power boost to prevent a Human Extinction Event in exchange for him becoming a Guardian after his death... Fan speculation is that Archer is the unfinished Ilya Route's Shirou... (^_^)

Yeah, the HF route, you will probably will be done finishing the route in anime form around this time next year. Its a 3 part movie series. Oh, wait, thats only if you watch it in theaters, watching the movies from the interenet will take longer since there is a lag between movie release and disk release.
One of my friends got me hooked on Fate mostly because I am a huge fan of Arthurian mythology (Arthur, Mordred, Lancelot, etc) and seeing a female Arthur was mind blowing. Years later I mentioned one of my hybridized OCs (Sonic/Fate Stay Night hybrid) was of a Fate-esque universe and now a friend I met on VR dragged me down the fun rabbit hole. I. REGRET. NOTHING.
I still hate that you're just expected to go with the flow when watching the animes - especially in Fate/UBW and Fate. Jonathan Turner that's an ova called sunny day. It was released as an alternate ending in the Unlimited Blade Works bluray. It depicts the "good" ending of the unlimited blade works route versus the "true" ending that's depicted in the regular anime. To clarify, in the original vn there are two endings for each route. The good end and the true end. Hope that's not too confusing.
No. Just an ova for that particular ending. Probably because that is the happier version of the end of UBW. Heaven's Feel hasn't been adapted yet and the Fate route was partially adapted by studio DEEN in 2006.

Note from what I remember from the VN, Archer becomes disillusioned with serving the deterrent force largely because he is summoned after disastrous events had already occurred, so he feels more like just cleanup crew than savior. Though I'm sure all the killing was part of it too as you said.
what happened to Sakura in the UBW route? I went on the Type-Moon Wikia but it never fully explained what happened to her after she gave her servant to Shinji.
I know it's a super late answer but it's sort of hinted that Shinji changes his tune and stops his mistreatment of Sakura after his harrowing experience. The real question is what Zouken does afterwards,which is also hinted to be... absolutely nothing. Hollow Ataraxia is sort of the answer to most epilogues and it is hinted that Shinji decides to play the role of true big brother instead in the UBW route. In the Fate route... I guess we can assume El Melloi II finds out when he goes back to Fuyuki and gets rid of Zouken? That one is not very clear about anything.
I never actually knew that Caren was Kirei's abandoned daughter. I guess now that I know, they were pretty elusive about it in Hallow/Ataraxia but the clues were all there and when Angra was climbing the stairs with Caren at the end, Angra said that he knew her father's identify which is basically a vital point for confirming anyone's suspicion using all the clues left.

After carefully listening to the two videos of this series and watching the animes and visual novels of this main trilogy, I've come to the conclusion that this series is actually self-aware as well. It knows it's being gamey at times and it knows when it's being ridiculous, and at the same time it's all so charming. What I really have to love most about this is that between Servant and Master they're both still human, even if the Heroic Spirits, Divine Spirits, and Counter Guardians exist as humans who follow a different set of rules for living and existing. However, besides that, they're all still human, and when you see Masters competing against or even dominating Servants in combat it adds to that sense of a consistent fiction. As much as I love Saber and Archer it was satisfying to see them get the shit beat out of them by normal (as in not spirits) people who happen to either be skilled with magic or weaponry (screw Gilgamesh, though, but I'm glad that UBW had Shiro and him fight making it one of the best fight scenes in the series as a whole). It's also written to where Extra and other alternative universes and spin-offs can work and be just as fun and engaging. With that element, you have a fandom with a ton of diverse ideas to extend the fun of Fate outside of the official releases. I've never been a fan of Fate and actually hated its existence the first time I read the Stay night novel, but it really grew on me after a second look and some experience with the other works and fan content. I just picked up Extella a few days after its release and I plan to have fun with that one too. Overall I really like this series. The only thing that I can count as a real negative on its writing part is that Nasu can't write smut to save his life, and it comes off as gross to me. He made Shirou and Saber's romance fantastic, and DEEN actually did a good job in their anime adaptation with it, and romance between other characters in the series range from mediocre to great, but his ecchi (not all of it) and sex scenes are god awful. Thanks for making these videos. I actually learned quite a bit of stuff that I didn't know before.
Funny you would mention the hentai scenes from the visual novels. The artwork is obviously pretty great, but yeah I'll admit the text was pretty funny. I don't have much experience reading erotic literature, so it's hard to say how it stacks up. Either way I thought the scenes were alluring enough and I actually prefer the Fate lore using sex to transfer mana and such, as opposed to the workarounds they used for realta nua. I just beat Fate Extella recently and I found its story to be phenomenal, mostly for how it plays out developing the romance between the MC and the three main servants. It actually expands Extra's lore much better than the original game itself. I never would have thought a musou game could pull that off.
For some reason this isn't too well known, but Nasu didn't actually write the sex scenes in all of his visual novels. That was Takeuchi, Type-Moon's co-founder and illustrator. Nasu actually hated that he had to include those scenes in his story and he completely removed them in the updated version of F/SN, titled "Realta Nua".
Interesting. Well, I like the sex scenes not just as a pervert but because it adds more depth to a master servant bond through intimacy. It's a more realistic, adult story with the sex.
Looking at KnK, Nasu is alright with just implying it. "They love each other. The had sex. Now let's actually look at their relationship and how it affects their psychological profiles" kind of thing. The scenes in the VN , however, get too descriptive with the intent of titillation, and failing at it IMO, instead of giving more depth to the characters. Heck, with the exception of Sakura, every character is so out of character in those scenes. Obviously enough, sex in itself doesn't make a story mature or even realistic, or every intimate softcore porn would be that. It's how the relationship actually develops how the characters' see themselves, each other and the world around them. Realta Nua retains that feeling, in terms of the romantic elements despite having none of those scenes. Personally, i don't care one way or another, with the original scenes in HF being much better than their alternative version in Realta Nua IMO, but seeing how Nasu made Mahoyo without any sex scenes after releasing Realta Nua, it seems clear to me where he wants to stand on this subject.
Astroprogs To me it does make sense why Nasu wanted Realta Nua the way it was. If you remove the sex scenes you make it available to a much bigger audience due to not being legally bound to only adults. Cero Z suddenly goes down to Cero C, or AO to T in the ESRB rating system. Strip away the sex or explicit nudity and you have yourself an otherwise good shounen romance piece, which is what sold a lot of people on the series to begin with. Most people I know started with DEEN's anime. By the way, is there a source or an interview quote saying that Nasu did not want the sex scenes and that Takeuchi wrote them and put them in instead?

Illiya is already dead when the body-swap happens. If I remember correctly it is never confirmed who provided the artificial body and who made the transfer, but it's believed by most fans that both were done by Aozaki (forgot her first name). Also Kiritsugu couldn't have transfered the magic crest to Shirou even if he wanted. If you try to transplant a magic crest on someone who's not a blood-relative will kill them. Even blood-relatives experience extreme pain when the operation is done.

I had a few questions about the mixture of different servants shown in FGO's Singularity F. After some research, due to Solomon's interference, Cu was turned into a caster, Assassin was Switched with that big armed Hasan, the lancer place was taken over with a Lancer that hasn't been seen in any previous war, as far as we know, and of course Medea was replace with Cu, other than that, the OG Servants from Stay night are Medusa Rider, Emia Archer, and Artoria Saber Alter from the Heavens Feel route. As far as Gilgamesh is concerned, he was treated as a human, not a servant, so he was engulfed in the incineration. I came back to this video for help understanding where FGO Singularity F takes place, and now I know it's an altered Fifth Holy Grain War.

Shiro has been quite a unique character. In UBW and heavens feels, I feel as though he becomes a strong user of UBW thanks to Archer. In regards to the visual novel and berserker, I think berserker, correct me if I'm wrong, had to be killed about 12 times over in order to be defeated... And bummer for Illyasviel....
I was thinking that Shinji just forced Sakura in the Heaven's Feel route. I don't know, Sakura looks so normal and quiet in Fate and UBW that I don't think she suffers anything more than summons Medusa and the whole thing with the worms in those routes T~T)

@@sin3556 The Avalon Ending, titled "Last Episode" was added to the game when it went to PS2 as Realta Nua. The PC versions you can patch with english also have realta nua content. If you have voice acting, for instance, you have the right version. That said, you also have to unlock it by getting every possible ending as well as the Tiger Dojo bad ends, which can be tricky.

Much of those detective stories are still not translated. Anyway, i dont think the maker of this video has actually engaged in playing the VNs and reading the other fate works or TYPEMOON franchises (when translations are available). He seems to have enjoyed only the anime series and filled in the holes of understanding thanks to the TYPEMOON wiki.

@Saki Maro Tell me I am missing the point by saying that the Stay Night series; is just the same story being told from different perspectives, so that the MC can get it in with all of the main heroines and to keep us interested we get further backstory about the characters and the origins.

Fate/Stay Night at its most fundamental is about a boy whose entire life revolves around dying for an ideal trying to both come to terms with what that ideal entails along with the emptiness that pervades him. Each of the routes are about different perspectives on his ideal and how Shirou acts in response to those perspectives. In Fate, he sees the success of one who followed a similar path to his through Saber who would give him a goal other than simply fulfilling that ideal. In UBW, he is forced to confront his ideal and its borrowed and impossible nature coming to the conclusion that despite being borrowed and despite being impossible it should still be strived for not because it’s his impulse to do so but because he genuinely believes that it’s important. In HF, he is instead confronted with the choice of either killing his ideal or the one he loves. In this case his ideal changes, instead of being purely for the sake of saving everyone he instead focuses on those close to him. Each of these in some way deal with the emptiness inside him.
TL;DR: The three routes are explorations into Shirou’s psyche and morality. In this way the heroines of each route, while interesting characters in and of themselves, act as plot devices for these journeys to happen.
You missed something about what happened to Bazett. She didn't fight Kirei. She was actually ambushed by him. They actually have a history of working together before, so she was comfortable around him, leading to him backstabbing her, taking her arm, command seals, and Lancer. It adds context to his deceptive ways, as this is now the second time he's done this(Tokiomi).
While his deaths in the Fate and Unlimited Blade Works routes are lame, his death in the UBW route at least ends up being poetic, backstabbed by Lancer, who was only his after backstabbing Lancer's original Master, Bazett.
Also, getting stabbed by the Azoth dagger in the Fate route ends up being poetic too. That was the dagger he stabbed Tokiomi with too.

I always feel so bad for Artoria. She was cheated in life when Lancelot and Mordred were the downfall of her kingdom, and then she's always getting the short stick as a spirit. She gets cheated in Zero, that one scene in UBW that I find hard to find watch and in Heavens feel when she's killed by Emia. I just want her to have a happy story and not constantly getting used and backstabbed.
Of all the routes, her ONLY happy ending was the Avalon ending. I wish there were more

I think you forgot to mention that there are actually two assassin servants during the war. You know the Cursed Arm Hassan of Zouken?

Not exactly, Caster's incomplete Assassin did count as a slot fill by the Grail. It was Zouken that had "complete" the summoning to call the True Assassin that the Grail has been selecting all the time: Hassan.
Pretty much. Assassin was a false servant. That's why he was fated to vanish. In the UBW route he manages to remain in existence until the last day of the War by sheer will just to honor his promise to Saber.
Hmm... i guess that solves one mystery.
How did the Grail acheive completion at the end of UBW? In Fate/Zero it was pointed out that 6 Heroic Spirit sacrifices are needed to activate it.
We know that both Artoria and EMIYA are still alive at this point and thus only 5 Heroic Spirits were eliminated... until you count Hassan.
1)Medusa, 2)Medea, 3)Hassan, 4)Heracles, 5)Cu Chulain and 6)Kojirou.
(Kojirou may not be a proper servant, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a Heroic Spirit)
I'm guessing Gilgamesh must've killed Hassan when he went to the Matou Estate with Shinji and Kirei, being the supervisor, would definitely have known about the existence of True Assassin.

In Fate/Zero's case, the Grail became active with the Heroic Spirits of 1)Hassan, 2)Gille De Rais, 3)Diarmuid, 4)Iskandar, 5)Lancelot and 6)Artoria (her mana went dry after using Excaliber).

@@OtakuDaiKun Of course he ends up somewhere else when she's literally standing in the exact spot he's supposed to materialize. Every other Servant summoning we've seen, they end up EXACTLY in the middle of the summoning circle. Right where Rin stands.
I think I know why I grew to love the fate series of its explanation of good, evil and purpose. It, imo, tells a story of people wanting their wishes granted by having to crush others. Which than shows that no wish was ever worth it having to ruin others. Another thing of a lesson that is reminded in the series is that people should never look down on themselves no matter the circumstances as it will only make it worse. Thank you for the videos man ^^

Bobby Aditya Eka Pratama Well the version I'm referring to is the original VN that had a lot of sex stuff in Heaven's Feel. When they released the VN as Realta Nua they took out a lot of the sex so I'm not sure how much of that will be in the Heavens Feel movie. They replaced the good old fashioned (replenish your mana with sperm) with different magic rituals.
Yes i know the eroge part of fate for a long time,but i only played realta nua. 13:49 It doesn't really destroy his magic circuits and mind, it's more of a overwriting his "spirit origin" with Archer's, causing Shirou to lose himself, as shown by the fact that he forgot Illya's name. Also, Cu Chulainn got his name from killing the guard dog(hound) of a blacksmith named Culainn, who made spears for his uncle/King.
When I saw the reveal of Archer's identity, I was fucking floored! I wasn't spoiled in anyway, and it payed off good!

So it is not the direct prequel to any of the VN Time lines but has it's own timeline. What Nasu said is basically that. So it's "non-canon" in the sense that it doesn't relate to the original. But "canon" in the Nasuverse as that is a clusterfuck anyways :D

yo I love all your fate videos. I always liked the whole fate series but after watching all your vids it makes me love fate even more and all the lore is so interesting.
And finally, I find the one and only lore video of the fate franchise…… though I would gladly say that this is definitely a (or two) great video, but it feels more like a story analysis rather than a lore video.
Many origin and reasons were left untouched, for instant, how did the Holy Grail system works? What is the original purposes of heroic spirit? How did the fate universe differs from other universe such as tsukihime and garden of sinners, or how did it splits into it's spinoff titles? Zelretch? What is Magic in the nasuverse and it's interesting concept of magecraft? Many of the above topics and many more are not mentioned, while the answers lays in plain sight for those who search for it, it will be interesting for you to make videos on it. I'm looking forward to this type of future content ( though not one fate video on RUclips mentioned about those as long as I'm concerned)

To be perfectly honest, a lot of that stuff is a lot harder to get a canon answer on since it's buried in supplemental materials. Essentially, I tried to avoid anything that couldn't be explained clearly and dramatically. It's hard to do that for a key concept that's only mentioned in one sentence. That said it'd be fun to make individual videos about each of the heroic spirits. The reason I don't is because the only time we really hear about their pasts is during Hollow Ataraxia. I plan on keeping this up but info can be scarce and vague. I don't want to have to make my own interpretation^^;

If you're interested in the source informations, here are some places that you can find.
While some are in those supplemental materials more specificly the fate complete material, many more are explained in spinoffs (though some did made it more complicated) where unexpectedly, FGO contains quite a few of it. The wikia also did a very good job explaining the lore and settings as well.
While accuracy of informations are important, there's still plenty of room for anyone to speculate, don't hesitate to interpret unclear lore, as that's where the fun comes in, isn't it?

But you got a few things wrong that I noticed. Kiritsugu was unable to give Shiro the crest, whether he wanted to or not. You didn't mention that Kotomine is also at fault for rins mother's state. When it comes to Gill, he was showered in the darkness of the grail and it's said that it drove him a little insane, and he claims the darkness would have destroyed any other heroic spirit or human, and basically didn't destroy him because he was already a bit of a dick. Additionally with Gill the darkness of the grail didn't allow him to live, any servant can exist after the war if continually supplied with mana as far as I can see, its just that most would never stoop to the depths that would be necessary for such a thing.

You didn't mention survival guilt and other psychological complexes of shirou which he was suffering after the fire which destroys fuyuki city. When you are talking about shirou's character. It is important because it tells he's ideal was not naive. Actually he is polar opposite to kirei kotomine who saves other just to fill his psychological needs.
On the other hand, kotomine fills his psychological need by destruction.

I really like the videos you have made for the Nasuverse stories and worlds, they serve as a good place to clear up confusion for people who haven't played/read/watched all the parts of the stories.
That said there are usually a few things misinterpreted or missed out in these videos. A few key points of note regarding the F/SN verse that have been missed for example:
- Hero EMIYA is not the future of any of the three F/SN route Shirous. He is a Shirou who experienced something similar to the Fate route but never got that close to Saber and thus was unable to truly reaffirm his ideals. This is important as in Fate route Shirou's romance with Saber teaches him to never regret the past no matter how bad it turns out & to not give up on his ideals even if the outcome isn't what he was wishing for (It is for this reason that he was able to indefinitely pursue Saber & reach Avalon).
- In F/HA the universe mishmash occurs due to one of Rin's experiment on the Second Magic going wrong. As a result different people in the story remember different futures (esp, Shirou who remembers multiple timelines). Also, after the time-loop is broken only Bazett & Caren remember the events of the loop. Caren is the one whose avatar transfers the memories of the events of the loop to her real self as it was an artificial avatar. Shirou might have retained a few flashes of images or feelings but not the entire recollection of events. That is why he recognizes neither Bazett nor Caren when they meet in the real world. As we see in the epilogue the mishmash reality is the actual reality of Fuyuki City & not the Holy Grail's fault.

Small note: The Greater Grail very specifically summons heroic servants from history/mythology but heroic spirit Emiya became a counter guardian, who is part of the deturant force. He can thus be summoned the any time/place because he is no longer part of the normal flow of time. Kinda the reason Rin didn't figure out Archer's identity.
Upon examination, a random intruder into the fifth HGW could very likely expect one Servant in particular to be their first opponent. Shirou didn’t even know the war existed until he stumbled on Rin, Archer and Lancer, Saber was the last of the primary seven summoned, and primarily concerned with protecting Shirou. Medea was focused on obtaining magical energy and shoring up her defenses at Ryuudou temple. Kuzuki and Kojirō are both stuck guarding her (Kuzuki by choice, Kojirō by necessity), Heracles does nothing without Illya’s command and she is laser-focused on Shirou, seeking revenge. Gilgamesh would most likely refuse to even acknowledge any newcomers unless they did something that pressed one of his many buttons, perfectly confident that he’s so far above everyone. Saber Alter and True Assassin can’t be summoned without the loss of Artoria and Kojirō, and Zouken is content to spend most of his time watching from the shadows and putting pressure on poor Sakura.
All that in mind, anyone stumbling into the war could reasonably expect to face one of three teams: Rin and Archer, Shinji and Rider or Lancer. Of those three, Shinji would probably prefer to spend his initial time draining mana from innocent people and only confront the others once he felt he was invincible. Rin meanwhile was focused on learning what the other Masters and Servants were up to, and might overlook a sudden newcomer. By this logic, the very first Servant one could expect to face is actually Lancer, outright ordered to seek out and test the abilities of the other Servants.
With that long-winded explanation out of the way, how do you imagine you would react if left face to face with the Hound of Culann? What do you think you’d do?

Heaven's Feel was weird as it's the only one we haven't seen fully animated. I think reading about it and actually seeing it happen are going to be completely different experiences.

It’s not that Shiro’s father never got the chance to pass down his magic crest the anime flat out states that he refused to do so because he view his family knowledge to be too dangerous to be passed on considering his own father’s work and knowledge would also be passed down.

Aziz Saidy From a visual standpoint he's really basic. It fits his personality but he's not as iconic. Like, you can't cosplay Shirou without coming off as lazy.
Aziz Saidy Unfortunately, I think that's a result of the Unlimited Blade Works anime not going into his thoughts as much as the visual novel. (Although this is just my own opinions on this matter, so don't take it as truth) And, I don't think it could have been done without coming off as awkward exposition which makes it even worse. But, in the beginning of the UBW anime, many people see Shirou as a generic shonen protagonist, and even a bit of a white knight since he doesn't want Saber to fight. (Despite having a reason that actually makes sense; he's self sacrificing to the point of absolute ridiculousness. He can't stand seeing anyone get hurt for his sake, and that's why after seeing Saber nearly die because of Berseker he doesn't want her to fight anymore.) Anyways, it is really unfortunate that Shirou gets as much hate as he does. He's a fantastically written character, (he's even a subversion of classic shonen protagonists in some ways) and it really sucks to me that he's seen as just another generic anime character.

So does Saber in Stay Night remember everything that happened in Zero?
A good deal of it at least. She remembers Kiritsugu but doesn't tell Shirou in order to avoid ruining him as an idol and role model. She remembers Iri but doesn't recognize Illya at first because she's surprisingly young. She never learns Gilga's identity but she does recognize him as the previous archer.
That's a good question my guess is that she dose and mybe some how she remembers her last master?
Log Horizon In the VN it's canon. Saber reveals she has memories of the last grail war but didn't want find it relevant at first.

Kirei was the guardian of Rin and was in charge of Tohsaka's finance. This is the reason why we can see how Rin became penny pinching when Tokiomi was rich. Kirei ruined the Tohsaka's finances deliberately.
EMIYA was not a proper heroic spirit due to the lack of fame. He was only able to get into the Throne by being a Counter Guardian.
The reason why Saber didn't realise that Illya was the daughter of Irisviel at first was because Saber thought that Irisviel's daughter would have already aged and that Illya was just another Einzbern homunculus.
Kirei was weaker in Fate Stay Night as he was dead at the end of Fate Zero and was then revived by the grail. This is why Kirei's heart became just grail mud. In a sense, he was similar to Kiritsugu in the sense that the grail was killing him off slowly too.

I was just wondering, Do you know why Archer aka Emiya in the fate series never shows any feelings towards Saber or Rin? How I get it is that in the saber route he loves saber and in a way beccomes a heroic spirit to be with her in Avalon? And in UBW he loves Rin but Archer dont really show anything big while being her heroic spirit. Is this just because that archer is from another "worldline" or that he dosent remeber his past self that mouch?
KashimZero I think it's subtle but Archer likes teasing and provoking both Rin and Artoria. I believe he definitely remembers some part of his life with them. That said, Archer, when he doesn't try to kill himself, no longer considers himself Shirou but rather the product of his ideals. I view it like Saber and Rin are ex lovers. That said, I think the Archer from the end of the Fate route is still trying to seek Artoria in Avalon.
So in a way he goes "Emo" like he dont really give a f''' about anything besides getting out of this loop, when he has to kill people? I that case I really feel sad for Saber who is soppose to wait for him, But then again i cant say i know how it would effect me if i were to go around "killing people for the greater good" for centuries. But seeing Saber again after all that time should still make him feel something, right? I know this isnt a "Romance" and its about the grail war, but still its in the story. Seeing someone you loved after souch a long time should still meen something or im I wrong?
KashimZero The thing we don't get to see is Shirou's original timeline. He might not have actually fallen for either of the girls at first. We just don't know. Time travel is messed up that way.
Yeah, that sounds about right in some way at least. So he has a 4th timeline were he just becomes archer without meeting either saber, rin or sakura? Archer is a Shirou who participated in the 5th HGW who allied himself with Rin but never gained romantic feelings for Rin or Artoria...
One thing confirmed by the VN is that all of the 3 route Shirous has the potential to become Archer but never does since the chance of them turning to Archer is close to Zero because of their "Answers"...
What's also known is that Archer seems to have feelings for Ilya from HF route...
From other materials like Fate/Extra... it's been shown that Archer made a pact with "The World" to give him a power boost to prevent a Human Extinction Event in exchange for him becoming a Guardian after his death...
Fan speculation is that Archer is the unfinished Ilya Route's Shirou...

Yeah, the HF route, you will probably will be done finishing the route in anime form around this time next year. Its a 3 part movie series. Oh, wait, thats only if you watch it in theaters, watching the movies from the interenet will take longer since there is a lag between movie release and disk release.

One of my friends got me hooked on Fate mostly because I am a huge fan of Arthurian mythology (Arthur, Mordred, Lancelot, etc) and seeing a female Arthur was mind blowing.
Years later I mentioned one of my hybridized OCs (Sonic/Fate Stay Night hybrid) was of a Fate-esque universe and now a friend I met on VR dragged me down the fun rabbit hole.

I still hate that you're just expected to go with the flow when watching the animes - especially in Fate/UBW and Fate.
They don't explain shit and it just makes me angry when I'll have to do research myself to learn about these rather interesting background information.

Jonathan Turner that's an ova called sunny day. It was released as an alternate ending in the Unlimited Blade Works bluray. It depicts the "good" ending of the unlimited blade works route versus the "true" ending that's depicted in the regular anime. To clarify, in the original vn there are two endings for each route. The good end and the true end. Hope that's not too confusing.

No. Just an ova for that particular ending. Probably because that is the happier version of the end of UBW. Heaven's Feel hasn't been adapted yet and the Fate route was partially adapted by studio DEEN in 2006.

Note from what I remember from the VN, Archer becomes disillusioned with serving the deterrent force largely because he is summoned after disastrous events had already occurred, so he feels more like just cleanup crew than savior. Though I'm sure all the killing was part of it too as you said.
what happened to Sakura in the UBW route? I went on the Type-Moon Wikia but it never fully explained what happened to her after she gave her servant to Shinji.
ashlee lozano Nothing really. In Fate and UBW she just gets left alone and sometimes chills at Shirou's place. They don't know she's a master.
I know it's a super late answer but it's sort of hinted that Shinji changes his tune and stops his mistreatment of Sakura after his harrowing experience. The real question is what Zouken does afterwards,which is also hinted to be... absolutely nothing. Hollow Ataraxia is sort of the answer to most epilogues and it is hinted that Shinji decides to play the role of true big brother instead in the UBW route. In the Fate route... I guess we can assume El Melloi II finds out when he goes back to Fuyuki and gets rid of Zouken? That one is not very clear about anything.
I never actually knew that Caren was Kirei's abandoned daughter. I guess now that I know, they were pretty elusive about it in Hallow/Ataraxia but the clues were all there and when Angra was climbing the stairs with Caren at the end, Angra said that he knew her father's identify which is basically a vital point for confirming anyone's suspicion using all the clues left.
Wait does this mean I could summon the Emperor of Mankind from Warhammer 40k.

i really like UBW route :)
After carefully listening to the two videos of this series and watching the animes and visual novels of this main trilogy, I've come to the conclusion that this series is actually self-aware as well. It knows it's being gamey at times and it knows when it's being ridiculous, and at the same time it's all so charming.
What I really have to love most about this is that between Servant and Master they're both still human, even if the Heroic Spirits, Divine Spirits, and Counter Guardians exist as humans who follow a different set of rules for living and existing. However, besides that, they're all still human, and when you see Masters competing against or even dominating Servants in combat it adds to that sense of a consistent fiction. As much as I love Saber and Archer it was satisfying to see them get the shit beat out of them by normal (as in not spirits) people who happen to either be skilled with magic or weaponry (screw Gilgamesh, though, but I'm glad that UBW had Shiro and him fight making it one of the best fight scenes in the series as a whole).
It's also written to where Extra and other alternative universes and spin-offs can work and be just as fun and engaging. With that element, you have a fandom with a ton of diverse ideas to extend the fun of Fate outside of the official releases. I've never been a fan of Fate and actually hated its existence the first time I read the Stay night novel, but it really grew on me after a second look and some experience with the other works and fan content. I just picked up Extella a few days after its release and I plan to have fun with that one too.
Overall I really like this series. The only thing that I can count as a real negative on its writing part is that Nasu can't write smut to save his life, and it comes off as gross to me. He made Shirou and Saber's romance fantastic, and DEEN actually did a good job in their anime adaptation with it, and romance between other characters in the series range from mediocre to great, but his ecchi (not all of it) and sex scenes are god awful.

Funny you would mention the hentai scenes from the visual novels. The artwork is obviously pretty great, but yeah I'll admit the text was pretty funny. I don't have much experience reading erotic literature, so it's hard to say how it stacks up. Either way I thought the scenes were alluring enough and I actually prefer the Fate lore using sex to transfer mana and such, as opposed to the workarounds they used for realta nua. I just beat Fate Extella recently and I found its story to be phenomenal, mostly for how it plays out developing the romance between the MC and the three main servants. It actually expands Extra's lore much better than the original game itself. I never would have thought a musou game could pull that off.
For some reason this isn't too well known, but Nasu didn't actually write the sex scenes in all of his visual novels. That was Takeuchi, Type-Moon's co-founder and illustrator.
Nasu actually hated that he had to include those scenes in his story and he completely removed them in the updated version of F/SN, titled "Realta Nua".
Interesting. Well, I like the sex scenes not just as a pervert but because it adds more depth to a master servant bond through intimacy. It's a more realistic, adult story with the sex.
Looking at KnK, Nasu is alright with just implying it. "They love each other. The had sex. Now let's actually look at their relationship and how it affects their psychological profiles" kind of thing.
The scenes in the VN , however, get too descriptive with the intent of titillation, and failing at it IMO, instead of giving more depth to the characters. Heck, with the exception of Sakura, every character is so out of character in those scenes.
Obviously enough, sex in itself doesn't make a story mature or even realistic, or every intimate softcore porn would be that. It's how the relationship actually develops how the characters' see themselves, each other and the world around them. Realta Nua retains that feeling, in terms of the romantic elements despite having none of those scenes.
Personally, i don't care one way or another, with the original scenes in HF being much better than their alternative version in Realta Nua IMO, but seeing how Nasu made Mahoyo without any sex scenes after releasing Realta Nua, it seems clear to me where he wants to stand on this subject.
Astroprogs To me it does make sense why Nasu wanted Realta Nua the way it was. If you remove the sex scenes you make it available to a much bigger audience due to not being legally bound to only adults. Cero Z suddenly goes down to Cero C, or AO to T in the ESRB rating system. Strip away the sex or explicit nudity and you have yourself an otherwise good shounen romance piece, which is what sold a lot of people on the series to begin with. Most people I know started with DEEN's anime.
By the way, is there a source or an interview quote saying that Nasu did not want the sex scenes and that Takeuchi wrote them and put them in instead?

Illiya is already dead when the body-swap happens. If I remember correctly it is never confirmed who provided the artificial body and who made the transfer, but it's believed by most fans that both were done by Aozaki (forgot her first name).
Also Kiritsugu couldn't have transfered the magic crest to Shirou even if he wanted. If you try to transplant a magic crest on someone who's not a blood-relative will kill them. Even blood-relatives experience extreme pain when the operation is done.

I had a few questions about the mixture of different servants shown in FGO's Singularity F. After some research, due to Solomon's interference, Cu was turned into a caster, Assassin was Switched with that big armed Hasan, the lancer place was taken over with a Lancer that hasn't been seen in any previous war, as far as we know, and of course Medea was replace with Cu, other than that, the OG Servants from Stay night are Medusa Rider, Emia Archer, and Artoria Saber Alter from the Heavens Feel route. As far as Gilgamesh is concerned, he was treated as a human, not a servant, so he was engulfed in the incineration. I came back to this video for help understanding where FGO Singularity F takes place, and now I know it's an altered Fifth Holy Grain War.

Shiro has been quite a unique character. In UBW and heavens feels, I feel as though he becomes a strong user of UBW thanks to Archer. In regards to the visual novel and berserker, I think berserker, correct me if I'm wrong, had to be killed about 12 times over in order to be defeated... And bummer for Illyasviel....

I was thinking that Shinji just forced Sakura in the Heaven's Feel route. I don't know, Sakura looks so normal and quiet in Fate and UBW that I don't think she suffers anything more than summons Medusa and the whole thing with the worms in those routes T~T)
We can't exactly tell what's happening in the background of those routes. She's become silently complacent about her abuse.
