@@colorgradinginsights I do everything you said but when i go to paint over the object (a person) my cursor is a red X with a circle. what Am I doing wrong?
The simplest most effective way I have seen so far. Just as everyone has said. This is what the word "tutorial" means to me. When I am looking for a tutorial I don't want an in depth workshop or training. A tutorial should be brief simple and to the point, with minimal extras, just like this. Perfect.
You're a lifesaver. I have been searching for over an hour for how to remove background in a moving video. Or how to make greenscreen without greenscreen on a video. Thank you so much. All I wanted to do was to remove a moving object in a video and you are the only person that made it without any use of money or greenscreen, or already png video. I can't say it enough, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! Yours is the fifth video that I've watched and the first one to show Windows users how to do it clearly. I got news for all you youtubers! Not everyone uses Apple products!
FINALLY someone who actually knows how to make a good tutorial on this. That viewer to like ratio is strange. Nonetheless, thank you for posting this, it's just what I needed!
Thank you for this MUCH more simplified method! I realize this may only work on videos taken from a tripod, but still good to know this can be done without using a dozen nodes!
Wow! That is so clever. Thanks for explaining. It's the best object removal tutorial I've seen so far. I also really appreciate that you gave the PC hotkeys as well, most people only give Mac and it saved me having to go and Google the conversion.
Thank you, for clear, simple but effective explaining. Also request to make such simple VID for object removal when background is also moving (camera moving)
Great video! if the subject was much closer to the Camera, moved on the spot without moving from the point and therefore without revealing the background, is there a method to reconstruct the background in a way that is coherent with the entire scene?
Dear if we have to remove some portion or logo from 970 to frame 1057 what should we do can you please explain what we need to put in the time source or source tool? which u explain if for whole vide?
Thanks for making this great tutorial! This feature is quite amazing. Unfortunately my late 2013 iMac(3.4 GHz Intel Core i5 | 32 GB RAM) doesn't seem to be up for the task. It just got far enough to where Resolve 15 will crash each time I attempt to open the project. Luckily, I save backup databases often so I was able to revert to the previous one. I'll have to try this task again when I get an external GPU or a more powerful machine.
Yes I know your pain! Unfortunately it can happen. They upgrade software very often and each time it needs more power! 🤷 But I can see that you have a good solution focused approach to it😉
@@sarveshtagwale2694 Thanks for sharing. My old-ish iMac works fine for color grading, its sluggish on playback when I have my noise reduction plug-in applied to a node. But when I attempted that fusion task of painting out a background object, I thought I was going to lose my whole project for a moment there. For now, if I really need to paint out spmething, I feel more comfortable doing it in After Effects.
Glad it was helpful! I really hope you will also be interested in my Color Grading Course: colorgradinginsights.thinkific.com/courses/masteringcolorgrading
Great video. However, this is for a static background. How about a background which is moving? Like someone walking whilst the camera is panning? In the clip I have, the pan and walk rate are different, so there is plenty to clone but not sure how to do it. I would like to create a moving background with no subject. That way I can replace the subject.
HIya, loving your tutorial it helped me a great deal. On following the tutorial, I found the painting out, stayed at the position throughout my clip, also deleting anything that came after what I needed to delete. So is there a way to reduce the number of frames the paining out/deletion is effective?
I have a video with a box in the frame of a wedding, there is a little movement with the camera, but when I try this object removal it doesnt seem to blend or copy the background in
Thanks for the tutorial! What if i'd like to make timelines with different resolutions, is there a way to resize fusion elements to match the new timeline resolution? As an example my original media&timeline is 1920x1080 and i've removed an object in fusion. When i create 1440x1080 timeline, copy paste the clip to timeline & zoom the clip in edit inspector to fill the area, the fusion element is not transferred to the new resolution and the effect is still in 1920x1080. In short: how to make fusion element (paint in this case) follow different timeline resolutions? Thanks for help!
I tried this method in a shot where my drone is going up while focused on a house but a white van was in the road driving in the street and it was behind trees (without leaves) and sign posts. It didn't work too well. What other options are there?
Great video, Kasia. Also really like your accent. Is it Polish? I'll take it over Brit or French any day. :) Also, I wonder if there's a way to isolate and capture a single moving object (in an environment where everything else is still), and then place that object into a new spatial environment (or simply a blank one like a white space). I suppose that it's like green screen capture without the green screen.
Yes I’m Polish😂 I’m glad you like it! Yes, it would be possible but it all depends on the background. Sometimes it may be too difficult to remove it/ cut out the object! If you are talking about any specific example, you can send it over to me so I can have a look!
Thanks Kasia for this amazing tutorial, is there any way to implement the same for clips where camera is moving & the subject is stationary & there is no source which has clean frame to clone from? In my case I am trying to clean a dirty glass window which has ugly marks on glass & camera is moving. I probably need frame by frame clone tool kind of this within Fusion I guess.

I think you would have to do the same, but a lot more times
The way I'm doing it is stabilizing the shot and using that as a reference. It doesn't work perfectly for me at least, but it works somewhat.

Hello! You just have to choose different “still source” - another frame that includes the objects you want to keep. I hope this helps!
Very good and to the point. I think it's going to be too difficult removing a moving object from a moving camera, so I'll use a fixed camera.
