  • Paul Simon, a seminal figure in American music, forged a legacy that transcends generations with his innovative songwriting and distinctive voice. Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1941, Simon's journey to musical stardom began in his teenage years when he formed the duo Simon & Garfunkel with childhood friend Art Garfunkel. Their harmonious blend and introspective lyrics propelled them to international acclaim in the 1960s with timeless hits like "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Simon's solo career soared in the 1970s and beyond, marked by eclectic albums such as "Graceland" and "Rhythm of the Saints," which showcased his penchant for blending folk, rock, and world music influences.

Throughout his illustrious career, Simon's personal life intersected with his artistic endeavors, often influencing his songwriting. One of the most notable relationships in his life was with the late actress Carrie Fisher, renowned for her iconic portrayal of Princess Leia in the "Star Wars" franchise. Their love affair, marked by passion and tumult, captivated the public's imagination. Despite their magnetic connection, their relationship faced numerous challenges, including Simon's struggles with commitment and Fisher's battles with addiction and mental health issues. Their on-again, off-again romance became tabloid fodder, immortalized in Simon's introspective compositions like "Hearts and Bones" and "She Moves On."
Ultimately, their love story didn't culminate in a happily-ever-after ending, as they parted ways amicably. Yet, their bond endured beyond romantic entanglements, evolving into a deep friendship rooted in mutual respect and admiration. Simon's experience with Fisher, along with other personal encounters, imbued his music with a raw emotional depth that resonated with audiences worldwide. As a troubadour of the human condition, Paul Simon's legacy extends far beyond his chart-topping hits, serving as a testament to the enduring power of music to reflect and transcend the complexities of love and life.

I heard an interview that she did on CBC Radio, where she talked fondly about how brilliant he was. It's a shame that their marriage didn't last longer, but 12 years is pretty good these days.

I love all of their songs, but the first one that I really remember because I saw in the movie was Mrs. Robinson. Love that song and every single one of the rest. Thank you for the beautiful music Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.❤❤

    Carrie was a lovely woman.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and loved their music a lot, and I love Paul Simon when he sang by himself. I'm not sure why they had split though I am a big fan of Simon's. We all have some relationships that aren't meant to be during our life time. I am so happy that he has children, kids are wonderful. I'm so sorry that your relationship didn't work out with Carry Fisher, but you had 12 years with this lovely lady. I am so sorry that she passed way to young. Simon is a good man and musician ❤❤❤

“Bridge Over Troubled Water” is one of the greatest songs ever written. “Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard” is clever and funny social commentary. “Julio, me and the radical priest all on the over of Newsweek” is a witty line from the “Julio” song.

I have to say “59th street bridge song” (being a NYC gal) But so many of his songs are treasures. (I quote “One Man’s Ceiling is Another Man’s Floor” often). I love when he made the album and toured with Olodum, the Brazilian samba reggae band! But what was with the abusive behavior with wife Edie Brickell? That was kind of shocking to me, with police getting involved and all! I just think that people shouldn’t feel the need to be married after many failures at it. He has his music and knows tons of people of all varieties. Just love yourself and get over it!

I'm sorry that I read his unauthorized biography. In that work, you find that a very common theme runs through Simon's professional life: plagiarism. He did it over an over again, wherein he worked with someone, released a hit or a bunch of hits and gave no credit to the collaborator or actual author of the song. I think he's a strong performer and guitarist and love his work and play them commonly. I can't see his work in the same way after reading that tome.
