    3:23 A MAJOR correction: In 2003, ¥45 billion is the equivalent of $167 million, not $4.9 trillion. I messed up the math, so bad!

    I really hope Capcom doesn't abandon this series. As much as I love the Koei Musou games, Basara is almost on another level when it comes to the gameplay.

    This game used to be so popular here in The Philippines! Nowadays people only fondly remember the game and some are even starting to forget it, mistaking it for Dynasty Warriors😢

    • @aarongallardo3684

      What? How come I have never heard of it until recently? I have watched the anime though.

    • @marksmania42
      @marksmania42 10 дней назад +1

      @aarongallardo3684 maybe it was only popular in my region? I'm not so sure anymore. Either way, it's still pretty underrated so it's no surprise that you've never heard of it.
      If you're a Filipino, then perhaps you know about those unofficial arcade cabinets that have ps2 or xbox built inside of it. The one where you drop a penny for 3 minutes of game time. Among the list of games, there's Sengoku Basara. But surely the makers at the time thought that Filipino kids wouldn't understand the japanese language so in some arcades, the game's name was changed to "Samurai" or any generic word.
      Because of that, some Filipinos remember the game very fondly but didn't know the actual name so it's pretty hard to find online.

    Emperor Wakamoto’s portrayal of Oda Nobunaga makes the latter turn into an unhinged demon with an unholy desire to rule the world and of course, who could forget Kazuya Nakai’s bombastic portrayal of Date Masamune?

    Superb editing and script! Sengoku BASARA is definitely a series worth looking into for action and musou games fans. I wish the series had more popularity in the west for it to stay afloat for an extended period time but alas Devil Kings did a lot of damage I suppose and that game needs it own video 😞. Thanks, Profar!

    I love Sengoku Basara as a whole so much! Happened upon Samurai Heroes one day and have been obsessed with the series since!
    I absolutely believe that Sumeragi should be held as the standard for the 1 vs 1,000 genre, one of the few games i went out of my way to import.
    I really wish that more people in the west knew about the series, and hope that Capcom will localize a future, especially due their recent successes.

    More than a Retrospective, I almost believe this was a documentary 😊 Really good video profar, Sengoku Basara was a game that I find super fun, in terms of Beat em' up games, I loved since then and still to this day I couldn't find an opportunity to play SB4S but I really appreciate that you are making this video to somehow reach to that audience that haven't try Sengoku basara and a really good Musou game outside of DW.

    I would really love to see a Devil Kings Remake game where Nobunaga becomes the main villain once again and include all Sengoku Basara characters in it.
    Also, make all the characters have their own “Devil Triggers” similar to Dynasty Warriors Multi Raid 2 game.

    Hot damn, It's really difficult to find anyone talking about this game, outside of Japanese-speaking channels, it's as if the series didn't exist ouside of it's home country (which is totally untrue), so massive kudos to you for being a conneseur.
    Well, my initiation to the franchise was, unfotunately, through the aforementioned Devil KIngs, and I loved the game (me and my older brother), despite all of it's flaws. Later in my life, I took a deep dive into the series and it absolutely blew my mind. The setting, the lore, the characters, the voice cast, the fact that the series itself is a VERY creative take, on the actual history of Japan, this franchise is a one big mess (in a positive sense, of course).

      Unfortunately, yeah. Part of the reasons for that, was Capcom's localization with Devil Kings.

  • @mistergremm735
    @mistergremm735 Год назад +1

    While Devil Kings is essentially considered a game that exist outside the series, I still advocate that it should be covered.
    Mainly that the localization wasn't done by an outside party like many people but internally by kobayashi himself thinking he will apeal more to westerners if they divorced what their series standout and instead force it to be artificially part of DMC series (deceptively), while gameplay wise is equally controversial including increasing the difficulty which defeats the original philosiphy of the jp ver. being essy to pick up and play, the desiners still tried to improve many elements and make the combat stand out bit more
    DK would also be the perfect explanation on why the series always had alienated relationship when it comes to localizations in future
    good luck on retrospective

I really appreciate this series from the bottom of my heart for all the coolness it brought to the pop culture. I mean, Masamune's lines are so iconic... But not only him ! All the cast had something so compelling, you ended up loving them all ! Anyway, great video, dude !

    Mantap, sedari dulu emang suka game Samurai Warriors. Terus tahu ada Basara, tertarik lah, mana lagunya banyak digarap sama TM Revolution, makin suka. Paliing pol ngicipin Basara 3 karena ada localizationnya. Kalo 4 di localize kayanya bakal nyicip juga deh. Nice video! 🔥

    Man that one was my childhood. I play a shit tons of it back then that I can still remember all special attacks of my favorite characters. But unfortunately though, Basara wasn't that much of a hit here in Myanmar. There was a Gaming Cafe in our town and me and my brother are the only weird dudes who play Basara. We didn't even notice the name "Basara" for like two years into playing because people here called it "တရုတ်စစ်သူကြီး (TA Yote Sit Thuu Gyii)" which mean Chinese Warriors. I burst out laughing when I learned it is a Japanese game. At least, it was more popular than Dynasty Warriors.

    You missed Chaos Legion that was another Capcom loss, I always love the Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura rivalry it is so great for the story of the series. I wish Capcom would release an HD collection on PC would buy it. I always find that funny how people say Sengoku Basara ripped off Samurai Warriors when reality it was inspired by it.

    The more I think about it, the more I'm confused as to why Capcom didn't slap a rep into the VS. Series.

    • @karint4239
      @karint4239 Месяц назад

      I think it has something to do with copyright issues, which ultimately ties to the producer (being the copyright owners and whatnot)'s decision. KobaP was a really weird guy (this is an understatement) for sure if you dig through his history of questionable decisions towards the franchise, apart of not letting his IP being featured in a massive super popular crossover.
      That said, BASARA did get some crossover reps in some JP-only media, like in the old MonHun mobile game, Gaist Crusher and recently (not JP-only thankfully) Teppen. I do wish that eventually they'll get at least 2 poster characters into their bigger crossover installments directed to their global audience

    Love this series. Glad to see more people talking about it.
    BTW the PS2 did not sell anywhere close to 350m units, let alone as of March 2k3 which would be less than 3 years on the market. As of 2024 it's sold around 160m ww. That's direct from Sony Boss Jim Ryan. Switch has a chance to finally surpass it.

      @@Profar26 I'm sorry I was reading the captions. It straight up says 350 Million lol.
      At another point you converted Yen to dollars when talking about Capcoms losses and sounds like you said they lost trillions of dollars instead of the millions it would have been. The caption again says trillions but it sounds like that what you said too. Just trying to help. 🙂

    what is diff between sengoku basara and devil kings?

    • @Profar26
      @Profar26  3 месяца назад +1

      Devil Kings is a butchered localization of Sengoku Basara. I highly recommend to stay away from Devil Kings. Here are some of the changes they made:
      - Names for characters and places were changed, to make the game more fantasy feel, and not feudal Japan. Even though everything about the game is feudal Japan. Characters were named like Azure Dragon (Masamune), Scorpion (Yukimura), Frost (Kenshin).
      - Gameplay was altered as well. Some special skills were missing, and some characters had their basara attack changed. Masamune's basara attack in Devil Kings is just him activating six swords, which was a special skill in Sengoku Basara for him called War Dance.
      - Four characters were demoted as unique NPCs in Devil Kings: Maeda Toshiie, Matsu, Shimazu Yoshihiro, and Akechi Mitsuhide.
