I first watched your video on Motorcycle Stands and thought you were a cocky salesman. Now I have watched several of your videos and I truly enjoy them. Great info, great videos, thank you. And I actually sold my trackside for a pitbull.
At 3:33 in, when you start trimming the original equipment gasket, you start with a very narrow area, to just fit around the new cap base boss. Then at 3:58 you show that you cut a lot off. Why did you end up having to cut so much off? And, for future videos, it would be nice if you explained a change like that in the video, or even show us the problem that you solved rather than editing it out. Thanks! I'm really enjoying watching the mods you're doing!
I trimmed it a couple times to get the best fit. Video Steve just edited down to the finished result which you could use to begin with to avoid multiple cuts. Really having a good time with this project and thank you for watching! - Brian Van
I followed this tutorial very closely and ensured that I cut only what was absolutely necessary on the oem cap, but now I only get 80-90 miles per tank, where I was getting 108-120 miles per tank before.
Do have to add that it does look pretty damn nice, but the functionality and not needing a key is real nice on a hot day after a long ride at the gas station. I also did the digital guard Dawg system (and removed the ignition) and put the graves racing mounts for the ohlins steering damper. I consider all an absolute necessity for any sport bike. -1 tooth in the front and +1 or 2 in the rear and a 520 pitch is nice and reduces Unsprung weight which is huge. Intelligent lighting systems’ drl and mirror lights kit is killer as well, you can turn your drls into turn signals, and hazard flashers, and many other options, as well as easily cut off the lights for track use if you don’t want to have to put tape on your sweet ride. JL systems integrated tail light is awesome and you can get “fin blinker/brake lights” as well so you’re “legal”. I also like the fender eliminator that jl systems has. They have one with a plate light that keeps you “legal” as well. MJS has realllllly amazing headers for a super affordable price, and the yoshi y series can is legal in all states and adheres to the db (sound) and emissions requirements as well (mjs headers screw all that up). Bauce racing does MAGIC with your ecu. If you can’t find a fair and reputable shop to dyno your bike, you can trust bauce racing to get you 90% of the way there. You get amazing and custom service from them. Tell them what you want, they’ll talk to you until you’re blue in the face if you want to understand everything they’re doing, and they will certainly do what they say for a great price compared to any dyno that you can really trust (had bad experiences and multiple dyno shops, unless the reputation is sterling for your specific make/model, don’t do it when it comes to dyno shops). Speigler steel braided lines, brembo 19mm caliper, and soon to do the pads and rotors. Tear out your ais and put in the driven racing blockoffs. Get rid of your exup (ais and exup are both things bauce can handle with the ecu). Learn to clutch less up and down shift and when to, and when to feather the clutch to help the traction. Learn how to hard down shift while on that front brake real hard or “back it in”. Get you some street legal track tires like the Pirelli supercorsa track days. Atem 4 suit is awesome. I'm looking at buying an aftermarket gas cap for my bike. I like the look of the Vortex, but I like that this one releases quicker. Out of all the main ones available would you say they are all relatively good to grab with thin or thicker gloves or are there some that are better than others in that regard?

i just put one of these on my CBR 600...when i ride in the rain it lets a little water in that collects around the rim just under the center piece, this cant be normal correct?
I posted this on the R1 cap vid but as this is more current I'll go again. The tanks on the R1 R6 and MT10/FZ10 are the same. They have a drain hole (at 9 o clock) and the breather hole (at 6 o clock). While you're refitting the seal this is not water tight. Hence the reason for the drain hole in the first place. With the absence of the orange bung from the OEM cap the breather hole is now exposed and sat flush with the drain hole. This will let water from rain or washing into the breather hole which, unless I've read the service manual wrong, goes to the fuel pump. This is bad surely?
Chris Harwood @sportbiketrackgear no response to Chris’ posting??? Is this true? If I get this cap wet/rained on, is there ANY possibility of getting water in my fuel system at all???
