I went with a “cover” grip yesterday after watching this video, and I couldn’t believe how square the club went through impact; naturally too! Made a ton of putts. Let’s see if it lasts.

I spent about 200 hours under a 7 foot string. When I could make 50 in a row from six feet, I went home. When I returned the next day I would start out missing 5 to 7 out of 10. I knew if I could figure out why, I would become a good short putter. It turns out the 50 in a row was all timing. It had nothing to do with a good stroke. I did figure it out however. You have to putt like Ben Crenshaw who basically taught Tiger. You have to get ultra light on the grip and you have to RELEASE the clubhead (aka - let it swing). This puts the clubhead under it's own momentum where it has no propensity to twist. And for the most part it takes YOU out of the putt. This is why you see so many different grips on tour. Even Michelson changed. You have to work out the best grip that works for you in order to do this. The big flat top grip really helps with this too. It gives you a sense of consistency as you make the release. And don't be afraid to try going left hand low as well. Or, many touring pros try to take the right hand pretty much out of it by getting it into a position where it does nothing.

I love my Edel E1. Transformed my game. I used to be a claw putter over short putts for stability, don’t need it now the E1 is dialled in with a round grip.

Gimbal Golf - please explain further. Even with a round grip, when you right hand is on traditional style, your elbow will go to "under" style. Maybe you are naturally an "under" and not a "side" or "cover"

Isn't that the truth. I'm known amongst the fellas to be a good putter. However, I've never been "fitted". I'm going to after watching this informative vid. A player can always putt better.

David, Great video! I’m a cover putter using the claw grip ( after watching your videos) . Very helpful on short putts but I am consistently short on long putters. Perhaps I might need a different putter head weight and some up right putter shaft. I’m using a blade/ Cleveland Frontline 8.0 Slant. Thanks for your comments. Best wishes, Carlos (from Portugal )

Mike Adams research in this area is wildly sound....had no idea it could come to putting.
also **Skip Kendall taught Chris DiMarco that grip. Re: Playing Lessons with the Pros episode from back in the day.

3:33 - 3:36......coronal plane. Instinctive brain gets very fuzzy when you don't "keep your work in front of you". The "cover" takewaway is a fairly new trend in golf. It copies the "modern" tennis forehand first presented by Vic Braden in the early eighties. Braden's early use of high speed cameras showed that a palm down position in the backswing promoted a perpendicular to the ground impact position without any last second wrist compensations to get there. This new "machinelike" forehand promptly changed the game. It was far more consistent while producing the offensive topspin forehand. The jury is still out for it's use in the golf swing in my opinion. I consider it a death move because of the non instinctive body positions it promotes further up the chain. It also promotes a one ball flight player (the draw). It is sad how an entire teaching industry just jumps on any old bandwagon.

Wonder if hogan could've benefitted from this... seems like he was in a cover position with the right hand in the full swing and always "didn't putt well" despite his success.
