Tbf at gun fortress shadows mind is so tainted with evil that he’d even betray black doom in both endings even the dark when he says he’d even destroy earth when black doom needed earth for its people I think as livestock for his spawn or something
I think that if Sega was going to use this cutscene, the fight really should have been a personal one-on-one fight between Shadow and Sonic without Diablon. I mean, it just looked like a personal vendetta between the two.
Diablon was piloted by the GUN commander who hated Shadow and now sees him siding with the Black creatures. He isn't going to care that Shadow is only doing it to troll Sonic.

Don't forget if Sonic somehow falls off the stage he won't re spawn making the boss unreachable to damage so you have to die or hit restart in the pause menu

The Pure Dark scenario would have made way more sense. Diablon came out of nowhere and Shadow didn’t let the Black Arms do anything.

To be fair Shadow admits he isn’t truly on Black Doom’s side. He’s only helping him because it helps him in his plans to prove he’s better than Sonic.
