  • Sterling Adoption Video part 3
    One week in foster care
Sterling is a mixed breed (looks like a Plott Hound/terrier mix), 6 months old, 27 lbs, neutered, and will probably be a medium-sized dog when he's fully grown. He was extremely scared at the shelter. He wouldn't come out of his kennel or walk on a leash.
This is Sterling after one week in foster care... Sterling is potty trained in my home. He sleeps through the night. He has not ruined anything inside of my house. He has zero resource guarding. He eats well, is gaining weight, and has no digestive issues - meaning his poops look great! He allows you to clean his ears, give him a bath, and handle his paws. He is a splendid walker; he loves to run, wrestle and play with his doggy foster brother; he is always up for a good game of fetch; and he enjoys self-entertaining with nylon bones and toys. Sterling does great with crowds. He has been to the farmers market and several beer gardens. He delights in the attention he gets! Sterling does not jump up on you - not on kids or the elderly. He does not beg for food either. He loves dogs, all people - including kids, and gets along with cats. He is getting good at his basic commands, like sit, shake (sometimes), down, drop it, quiet, and come (even without a treat!). This seems unbelievable for such a young guy, but he follows my dog's lead. He barks at normal dog things - like when he sees another dog or something unfamiliar (including his reflection - ha!), but he is not an excessive barker. Sterling is also very sweet. He likes to give kisses and snuggle up with you. He loves lounging in the grass too! He does great in the car - just lies there until we reach our destination. You do need to lift him in and out of the car because he is so tiny... and he also seems a little hesitant to get in/out probably out of fear of returning to the shelter. Speaking of, he does not like to be in a crate - probably due to shelter trauma, so he would do best in a home where someone is usually home to watch him... just until he is out of his puppy stage and can be trusted. Overall, Sterling's confidence is way up! He initiates play with my dog, lies on my dog's bed, gets all of the toys out of the toy box, and freely roams my house. With all of this being said, he is still a puppy, so you do need to watch him (likes to put inappropriate things in his mouth) and sometimes redirect, but he is a good little guy who likes to follow directions and stay nearby. Sterling is absolutely adorable with a great personality and calm demeanor. He is very unique looking with the most beautiful brindle fur and the most kind eyes. Sterling loves people just as much as dogs. He would do well in a home with or without other animals - he just wants to be loved.
Sterling is available for adoption through MADACC. His ID is A449821
