    i'm glad someone else thinks and has proven the same as me, i have been using up flow filters for years and they work great providing you get that flow rate correct the clue is in the word filter and of course we are talking about mechanical filtration, i remember when we used to use central heating pumps years ago and they worked with their low flow rate, enjoying the videos keep them coming

    I have been running a tempest since September this year (2021) on a 10,000 lph pump but its split between tempest and home made 3 barrel filler tempest does a spot on job of removing the fines very happy with it apart from I have had to swop the clean out tap twice as it was leaking

    I made a homemade tempest using 200 mm acrylic tube with 11 litres K+ media as opposed to 7 that comes in the tempest, I'm amazed at what it catches, I'm probably pumping 8-9 thousand litres through it, but it does need cleaning every 3 days.

      Sounds good, maybe the extra 4 litres of k plus allows for the extra flow rate. Great stuff. 👍

      @@pomfretspond588 yeah, astonishing what it collects, I might even add more media, as the tube is a metre long without the rubber boots, have you seen "Dazzle Koi" video on the tempest?

    Hi , love the pond , EA say optimum flow rate 5000L max 7200 . I put tempest on and in just a few days it had cleared pond . My pump is 7.6l/h but with a head of .5ft I think its down to around the optimum flow rate . Ive but the tempest before main filter because im pump fed ,it takes out a lot of fines so I clean everyday , Im just try to work something out to clean the string algae off the bottom grill then itll be perfect . Are you cleaning the sieve every day ?

    Like you said it's a no more than 5000lph if someone reduced the diameter of the pipe and lowers the flow rate surly it would be fine ?

      Yes, but my flowrate is currently 10,000 per hour and for the size of my pond, I don't think that's enough. So I've made two sieve filters for the top of the bakki showers and turned the pump up to 75%. Thanks for your interest.👍

    Thanks for sharing. Do you know for sure that it is 5000l each? How do you control that?

    • @pomfretspond588
      @pomfretspond588  3 года назад +1

      I can adjust how many litres per hour using the pumps electronic controller. It allows you to control how many litres per hour gets pumped to the Tempests. I then have a splitter that sends half the water to each tempest. This seems to be working well. And if it appears that slightly more flow seems to be going to one of the filters and it appears to be collecting more fines than the other, then there is a valve on the splitter unit that can be tweaked to equalise the flow. It doesn't need to be absolutely exact as long as its broadly a 50-50 split. Thanks for your interest.

    Just for information for you and anyone reading, the EA 20,000 will not flow 20,000litres. I have tested the 10, 20 and 30 versions and the most the 20 will output is 13,000L on 3inch pipe, zero head. Thats 100% for 13,000litres. Don't believe what's written on the box. These pumps are fantastically efficient but do not flow what is stated

    I've just fitted a tempest filter and its really good .
    My one concern is that when you flush the filter and it refills, it tends to push an amount of fines through from the Chamber as it the new water flushes through it .
    Like a small cloud of dirty water . Other than that I'm very pleased with it clearing the water

      Thanks for the comment, that has happened to me also. In fact on occasion I have flushed the filters then refilled them and gave them a second flush. But all in all I'm happy with the results. Thanks for the interest.👍

      I've had a few other little anomalies with the tempest. Sometimes after stopping the pump and closing the gate valves , I open the bottom drain and it just drains out and doesn't gurgle, and twice after doing that I have a wash of K1 blow through pipe into the pond , any ideas .
      The water quality is superb

      @@christyreilly3327 The K+ shouldn't be able to get past the plastic grids on the inside of the top and bottom. The only thing that I can think of is some K+ has accidentally ended up on the wrong side of the bottom grid during the manufacturing proses. If that's the case it would significantly slow the speed of the water leaving the filter when you open the draining tap, and that may stop the gurgling effect. But if any surplus K+ trapped on the wrong side of the grid has now ended up in the pond, it mat be sorted. Fingers crossed.🤞
