You know Elon right, the world’s richest workaholic, who dated Amber Heard while ratcheting up divorces; who named his children with such ridiculous names that the last two are simply called X and Y; who appeared on the world’s most popular podcast with Joe Rogan, high and still smoking a giant doobie; who wants to guarantee his own free speech and is prepared to spend 40 billion to buy Twitter to do it; who thinks our best bet as a species is to abandon ship and get on his rockets and travel to Mars?
Yes, him, the world’s richest and most influential egomaniac started work at 12. In fact he invented a video game called Blaster which he then sold for 500 dollars. He paid his way through university by starting a nightclub. He quit his Stanford PHD to start a tech company, and then he built PayPal. I mean, he’s an inspiration, right?
Well, he is if you believe sleeping at the office and working sixteen hour days is the way forward. What’s the point of all that money if you can’t be happy, if you can’t love your spouse, if you can’t be home for your children, if you can’t find meaning in the people who love you?
And that’s what’s wrong with our attitude to work and wealth. It is an obsession which is ruining our lives and relationships. Why would we inflict this on our children, when we should be building a better world?
Recycling and climate change should be part of the school curriculum.
School sucks, doesn’t it? PSHE, Pointless … Happens in Education. You can fill in the gaps. Surds are absurd, quadratic equations are gobbledygook only a handful of adults will use in real life. Teachers cram us with useless information which we instantly forget once we’ve been stuffed, pushed and pummelled through the pointless hoops of exams. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We could be taught how to live better lives. If we put climate change into the curriculum, chemistry and physics might have a point. We need chemists and engineers to work out how to store carbon, or how to suck it out of the air, or how to make cleaner energy, more efficient planes, larger electric batteries to store the huge amounts of energy we need to power our consumer greed; cars which care for the planet by lasting longer and rejecting fossil fuels - your imagination will have little problem adding to this list. Because you are worried about it, aren’t you? So, who is leading the way?
Elon. Not only is the world’s richest genius developing the world’s best electric cars; not only is he drilling underground highways in American cities to revitalise their traffic-clogged arteries; not only is he building batteries to store the world’s wind and solar power, but he has also set up the first school devoted to saving the planet. That’s right, his own children and those of many SpaceX employees go to his own school. Yes, they learn lots and lots of science and lots of maths. Elon is an engineer, with two bachelors degrees, after all. But at the heart of his school curriculum is ethics. There is no value in education unless it creates a better world. Do any of us believe that teaching children to make more moral and ethical decisions is a waste of time? (No Boris, I’m obviously making an exception for you).

I started off Secondary school hating english. I was never that passionate about it and preferred all the other subjects over it. However, after stumbling upon these videos, along with other famous English teacher videos, I became hooked and started to really appreciate the joy that comes with using creativity and analysing someone else's work. Thank you Mr Salles for helping me and thousands of other students in English. I wish you the best of luck in the future, and to anyone reading this after 2022 (maybe in 2023 and onwards), make sure to study hard and never give up! For the last question, you could add a counter argument suggesting that no-one actually knows the way to live the perfect life, as it is all down to your personal opinion. After all, it is your life and you only have one chance at it, so do whatever you want with it.

The last push!! I never open the comment section when watching your videos since I get way too distracted scrolling or replying to people. But since this is probably the last time I’ll come across your channel.. just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work sir.
And to any students watching this in the future… I have 2 weeks left of my gcses and I honestly feel more relieved than stressed, more so because despite revising very close to the exams, in practically every exam I’ve walked out of I have felt a huge weight off of my shoulders and reassured that the hard work has payed off. It’s so weird that pupils years from now may stumble across this comment in the exact same position as me, and I know exactly how it feels! Good luck for tomorrow everyone and to anyone reading in the future.

I can't quite remember what it was specifically, but I spoke about Brits going to Barbados, and how the richest people probably own their own islands, and that Elon Musk's kids X and Y probably don't yell "I need the toilet!" when you've just passed the service station on the M4 ...

Nice video! I did this in my mock (that I didn’t really revise for lol) instinctively because I love persuasive writing and wrote the opposite on billionaires, because while I don’t mind bill gates, I thoroughly dislike Elon musk. I got an 8+ on that mock. I used some negative things I know of billionaires, corrupt politicians, Instagram models, etc that I truly felt strong dislike for and it payed off in my grade :)

@@user-wf4ot3su7b I didn’t copy it- I didn’t revise, I just did it off the cuff. It’s a lot easier to write passionately and persuasively if you actually care about the topic you’re writing about, which depends on the statement.
@@radicaledward4717 he tries to be a ‘cool billionaire’ by posting conservative and ‘down to earth’ memes on Twitter when in fact the way to become a billionaire is to step on everyone else in order to make the most money possible. He makes his workers work in horrific conditions; Tesla employees consistently pass out from the lack of air flow and from exhaustion. I genuinely do not think Elon is working on space x because he’s truly passionate on saving the planet or those on it- he sees the monetary value in the future of electric vehicles and their benefits. I am very passionate on climate change but if his idea of achieving change is by overworking minimum wage employees then I’m not really backing him. Along with that, him buying Twitter will be a travesty. He says he wants ‘free speech’ but by letting people like trump back onto the platform to spew propaganda it’ll lead to the downfall of an already brittle political sphere in the states (not like that’s not already happening.) I can appreciate Elon’s intelligence, but as a fellow autistic person, I believe that musk is just an egocentric capitalist, not a down-to-earth saviour who’ll whisk us all away to mars.
How did you use these examples in an opposite way? I'm asking cuz I really don't like Elon either haha
post exam, acc had to come say how useful this ended up being. even the small tips like starting each sentence with a different word helped.

Hey Mr Salles, I just wanted to persoanlly thank you so much, on how much you have helped me improve my English Language and English Literature grades from having only 3s predited at the beginning of Year 10 then suddenly having 8s and even potentially 9s for my GCSEs after watching your videos and improving on my work. Being a person who has always struggled in English, that I was even getting 1s at the beginning of Year 10 and honestly I started to feel hopeless as nothing felt like it was working out until I saw your channel. This has given me a phenomenal boost in confidence and especially grade wise, and just goes to show how your wonderful content really does work if you give it your all. It's honestly upsetting to end of my GCSEs and I'll definitely let my siblings know about your channel.
