Omg thank God Im watching this! I’ve had like five different english teachers since year 10 and they’ve all said different stuff and my current one told me to make up statistics and I was like what?? But I still listened to her and ended up going from a grade 8 ( I got an 8 in my September mocks + year 10 mocks) to a THREE in my February mocks and I was actually so upset because i’ve never got less than a 7 in english. But i’m revising a lot now and your videos are really helpful and straightforward and are clearing up a lot of misinformation spread by my current english teacher so thank you!!!
You teacher hasn't misinformed you. They have a different view. I really liked this video, but it is advice, not fact. It is always subjective to a degree. Mr. S is right to say that making up statistics is risky, because young people don't always see the world as adults do, but they can be effective if they are 'convincing'. So do take the advice in this video, but let your teacher help you too.
Recently, we went through paper 2 section B with our teacher, and she said to use statistics (only 1 or 2 in one paragraph) but don’t make them ridiculous. She is an aqa marker, so which viewpoint should I go from (use statistics or don’t use them)?

Hello mr sales quick question for this question I seem to include most things and still get capped at 21/40 could you advice good sentence starters and ideas to boost grade
i dont know if this will help, mr salles will have to help me on this one but i had the same rpoblem and my teacher just told me to add more paragraphs and ideas
My teacher always told me that for Paper 2 Question 5, I should attempt to use sarcasm because “it makes the article more entertaining”. Would you advise this and if so, how much sarcasm would be acceptable?
If you are a good writer, it works brilliantly. It is all about keeping the right tone - mocking, but not insulting. Try it out and get your teacher to mark it, or write one for me and I will use it in a video.
I actually implemented it in my latest mocks in February and ended up getting 35/40 for it (22 for AO5 and 13 for OA6). It was the June 2017 paper, the question was about whether parents are overprotective and should let their children to risky activities. It was a gift of a question if I’m being honest.
thank you so much for this, I usually get top grades in english however paper 2's arent my strongest point and I dont want to bring my grade down lmao, but your videos have helped me a lot in preparation so tysm again

Does writing less rather than more seriously affect your grade, I usually only manage to write about 1.5 -2 pages on 30 mark questions or does it matter more about key ideas and consistency when you write?
hi sir this is a bit random but do you (or anyone else any help would be appreciated) have any predictions for the theme or character that we could be asked about for Macbeth exam this year?
Hi, how would you suggest that I remember and 'store' all this useful information, on revision cards or just on a plan page of all ideas to writing Q5 P2? I find it hard to make notes and then come back to them so just end up writing the same thing over and over and never reviewing it.
Just wondering, if I cannot use statistics or made up expert opinions, what can I use? Other people have said use anecdotes but I am not really sure how they work or if I should be using them either...
Hi there Mr Salles, I am taking the English lang gcse this year (article for q5 in paper 2) and I would like to know if we can use "expert opinions" and statistics at all? I know you say it's better not to, but I've heard from teachers and other English RUclips so use it, but sparingly. thanks... :-)
You can use them. The question is, can you use them convincingly, or will an examiner easily see that they are made up by someone who doesn't have enough experience of what they are writing about to be realistic? At 15 and 16 it is difficult to have that experience.Try some out - give them to an adult to read, and ask if they are convincing.

Not according to the mark scheme. If you have a great title, put it in. But an informative title is fine.
