I just can't get enough of this band, especially Erica and Gregs voices. I'm spending most evening listening to them and discovering so many great songs. Not forgetting of course the other fine musicians in the band. Brilliant!
All the musicians together make Tuba Skinny fantastic the voices are icing on the cake!! Thank you for your wonderful music and for those who film and post!!!
Back in his day Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Albert Einstein created the General Theory of Relativity. Thomas Alva Edison invented the light bulb. All geniuses those guys. Today we have these guys playing this wonderful music on Royal St and elsewhere and they too are geniuses. Seriously, it gets no better than Tuba Skinny.
I'm 62, been to tons of concerts, played one thing or another my whole life. this right here, tuba skinny, is a good band. Shaye is showing her vision and Erika's voice and command of the song is perfect. Only my opinion.
Dear Keith, my funeral at which Tuba Skinny would play, for example Faraway Blues would be very nice to me. As soon as I die of corona virus I will notify Tuba Skinny about this important event. I invite you too!
It's really good to hear the strings so clearly. That's rare. So we could hear every note of the excellent banjo solo. And Greg is good as always. So good to have two fine vocalists. And I heard Barnabus sing on another video. He's also good.
Best wishes for strong claws for Gregory (guitar, vocals), Jason (banjo), Max (guitar), and Robin (washboard) in The New 2020-Year by Andrew! Who joins these wishes?
Jason-Banjo. Everyone at Tuba Skinny deserves praise. But today about Jason. He always attaches himself very much to performance. He is very focused. Has interesting music ideas. He showed it in many music pieces, e.g. in Belgium, but it is especially visible in Too Much Competition, interesting improvisation. How wonderful he chooses the chords in harmony with Gregory! My great appreciation!
I keep coming back to this group. I have listened to everything I can find. Just pure no bullshit music. Thank you for the efforts. I do buy your wares for myself and for gifts. The biggest gift is what you give to us. Wow! that was too cheesy... sorry! hahahaha I mean it though. If Shayle and tuba skinny had hit the public in the 70's before Cooperate media began deciding what we would listen to on the radio this band would have been at the very very top of the charts. More American than rock n roll this band. Wanna argue about it? I will literally fight you! hahaha... peace!
Surprised to learn this was a song written by Arthur (Big Boy) Crudup. I looked it up because it sounded to me like something Jimmie Rodgers might have written. "Got a good woman, you better pin her to your side, 'cause if she flags my train I'm sure gonna let her ride" sounds quintessentially Jimmie Rodgers. It was a pleasant surprise, though, as I am a big fan of Crudup's music. Not enough, obviously, to have known this was one of his songs. Tuba Skinny puts their own stamp on it and, as usual, it is done perfectly.
This version is not from Arthur (Big Boy) Crudup at all. His was completely different. This tune "Too Much Competition" is from Allen Bunn aka Tarheel Slim. Here is a link to the song ruclips.net/video/Tz9MsrrvuCE/видео.html. Enjoy. They also do one of his and his wife's tunes called "Security" sung by Erika and Greg at the 2019 FQF.
@@stewartfenton7660 Could very well be. I think that bet would be one that would take a lot of research work to determine the winner. So, I will pass. My point was not to suggest that Crudup "borrowed" the line from a Rodgers song or vice-versa. It was only that, being familiar with it as a line in a Rodgers song, I looked up the authorship, thinking it might have been written by Rodgers and was pleasantly surprised to learn that it had been written by Crudup, who is another of my favorites from days long gone by. If it is important to you, though, I am pretty certain that Jimmie Rodgers died long before Arthur Crudup was writing and recording songs, so it would have been pretty hard for him to have borrowed the line from this Crudup song.
JUst down home plain good music!! I can't sit still when I hear good music like this so I bounce my foort, or twist a little or something! Trouble is, we're living in our coach for a while and my wife can feel every time I open my eyes, so, you can get an idea as to how I move this coach!! Funny to me. Not funny to her at 3 in the morning. But I just can't stop watching and boogying! Ya'lls too good!!!! Love it!
The sound quality here is superb, which is appropriate because the videography is even better. We get thrilling closeups of the band members. Intelligent film editing allows the camera to be where it should be, again and again. And then there is the performance, eight close friends playing with unsurpassed skill and joy. Love it, love it, love it.
Oh, this is nice! Great singing and string work. Thank you for posting! Hope this band always has fun whenever they play. They make so many listeners happy that you pray they will be happy, too.
When you play an old classic, you maintain authentic of the original with a twist of Tuba Skinny touch to it. The vocals are so close to Allen Bunn's version on Red Robin records - it's amazing.. Put a grin on my face every time.
The TS musicians probably don’t talk about it very much if at all but they each deep down inside know that Shaye Cohn Is a musical genius and that they are privileged to be playing under her direction and making their contributions to the wondrous sounds of Tuba Skinny. God bless them.
I listened to the original song about a million times, and I did my best transcribing the lyrics. I couldn't find them online, so I think this is the only place they're located. Enjoy! "TOO MUCH COMPETITION" Allen Bunn (aka. Tarheel Slim), 1953 I know something on my baby, but I’m scared to tell her so. I know something on my baby, but I’m scared to tell her so. anytime I listen to this band I always wonder, does it get better? We award our performers with millions of dollars, they lead a blessed life, but the true talent goes without. Makes no sense to me. I am a better person for having heard them.
I am so jazzed. Will not sleep tonight. There is nothing better than Tuba Skinny❤️

It's really good to hear the strings so clearly. That's rare. So we could hear every note of the excellent banjo solo. And Greg is good as always. So good to have two fine vocalists. And I heard Barnabus sing on another video. He's also good.

Richard, I don't know, but I bet that line goes back further than Jimmy or Arthur.
