The fact that that umpire was trying to justify it because he didn't say a word is absolutely absurd. He knew he was antagonizing Madison he knew he was going to get a reaction from Mad Bum. I don't know how this dude has a job still. And as a result of this every time umpires screw up now players are getting in the umpire's face and they are letting them have it. And if he doesn't want to comply with that then he can continue to be suspended without pay.

I think it’s the way it cut to the manager like we were gonna get his conversation with the ump, as we’re accustomed to. Then we’re expecting a response from the umpire/more from the skip, and then there’s just the comedic cut to “FUCK YOU. FUCK YOU” in the background. Brilliant lol
Damn, you're dead on. The ump's supposedly on the side of enforcing the law, but does it selectively. When he feels a colleague is slighted, rather than being dispationately dedicated to justice and objectivity, attempts to provoke the subject of his ire by manipulating the unequal power dynamics and his own broad powers. He then jumps at the first sign of resistance to entrap Mad Bum. It's every issue people have with the police, but without the deadly and life-altering consequences.
MLB needs to just go to computer balls and strikes, no reason not to, how can everyone in the world know if it was a ball or strike except the guy calling it, how dumb. @@AcDoesSports It would be perfectly logical. Most of MadBum's suspendable behavior occurred AFTER the ejection. There's a way to handle a guy "staring at you inappropriately" in a professional setting, as well as the ejection that followed. And that wasn't it. Both deserve punishment.

It really is. I played baseball for years and watched it most of my life. If MLB had fights like hockey I'd put up with it but the benches clearing almost-brawls are just pathetic.

@@jokersoulja I would say it’s completely reasonable to eject a player for saying “fuck you” to an ump. You think he was justified in that because the ump rubbed his hand for too long while looking him in the eyes?
I love how emphatically the manager removed his hat when arguing the play. I feel like that is some unwritten ancient rule from the 19th century where if the manager removes his stovepipe hat to argue he can't be ejected.
I think Lovullo was trying to be cool, since he'd already been ejected the night before. *keep it together keep it together keep MadBum from killing this asshole right here on the field keep it together keep it together*
It's because if you're up in someone's face arguing with them as managers some times do, the bill of their cap will might contact the ump and that's an automatic ejection iirc even if your mouth and closeness is staying on the "not thrown out" side of the line. I'm certain managers have pecked at the forehead of umps with their bill, I just can't recall any specific incidents. But I'd start with a Billy Martin or similar. ;)
Besides just staring Him in the face while awkwardly massaging his hand for a long time, the ump kind of tilts his head so that he can make eye contact with Bumgarner To make sure that Bumgarner knows he’s staring at him
Bumgardner shouldn't have taken the bait, but that was some manipulative shit by that ump. There needs to be a system in place to punish behavior like this from umpires.

Stop buying tickets. Vote with your wallet. If we all did that, MLB would change pretty fast. Baseball isn't essential to your survival, you can do without it.

@T this sort of shit isn’t apart of baseball and nor should it ever just be accepted as such. Of course players argue with the umpires all the time and get ejected. But this guy acted completely weird and out of line in the hopes of getting a reaction out of him so he could throw him out.
I don’t blame Madison. You can’t do a death stare at someone while massaging their hand and think it’s cool. He should be fired but knowing MLB they’ll promote him to crew chief.
I wonder if the players in the league, particularly the pitchers, could drive this ump out by making this into a thing. Bait him back. “C’mon ump. Hold my hand like you did Bumgartner’s. What, no eye contact? I was looking forward to a little eye contact.”
All the other breakdowns missed this angle. This shouldn’t be happening in any sport. Umpires or referees need to be held accountable, just as players are!
Oh just players huh? How about I come to your job Richard and criticize how you do your job and verbally berate you in front of your co-workers, and the public. I hope on of your co-workers/friends would have your back like this ump did.
There needs to be standardized time or methods to examine the pitchers hands. Usually the players overreact, but this was uncomfortably weird. Apparently you gotta be half a psychopath to be an MLB Ump.
Between this and the Schwarber-Angel Hernandez incident, there's going to be another player-umpire incident that will HAVE to call into question what the Umpire Union is doing. This is getting out of hand. They are making the game all about them and protecting BAD umps
The MLB needs to terminate the contract with the umpire union. It makes the umps untouchable. If the umps won't participate unless they are in a union then guess what? There are plenty of umps in other leagues that would gladly seize the opportunity. No idea why these umpires think they are not replaceable.
@@robw7158 God that would be awesome. It might be the final strike needed to actually make changes too. MLB can't afford another lockout. Players are in control here.

While everyone focuses on the weird ass move by this ump, the managers face while he tries to stick up for his guy while his guy is yelling fuck you fuck you fuck you behind him is equally hilarious
The fact that the ump IMMEDIATELY jumped to "I didn't say a word." as a claim of innocence suggests that he had this all planned out for quite some time.
That was a direct attempt to intimidate. He wasn't staring at him to creep him out, it was to provoke him so he'd do exactly what he did. That's pretty shameful for a game official.
No it wasn’t. He was staring at him to see if he would crack because he knew he had shit on his hand. Which he damn near did. I’d say he cracked him a good 95% he didn’t even have the balls to look him in the eye which is all the ump wanted but he knew he couldn’t do it because he was cheating.
@@Samuelfish2k if there was something on his hand don't you think the ump would have either A) looked down at the hand instead of staring longingly at him or B) thrown him out of the game for having sticky substance on his hand? @@sg86484 You don’t need to see something sticky, you feel it. Maybe he only had a slight amount of it on his hand, enough to be effective, but borderline undetectable, which would make complete sense if he wanted to not attract attention. That answers your questions. Just takes a bit of common sense.
The ump needs to be disciplined for this for instigating. I'm not saying Bumgartner wasn't a little bit out of line with the home plate ump, but it was VERY minor stuff. I mean, his beef wasn't even with this ump.
Most umps home plate umps will let it go and the pitch said what he had to say and moved on but then this base ump was just creepy by holding his hand like that.
The hand check should have nothing to do with how the pitcher treated the home plate umpire. Completely separate issues. The home plate umpire can handle Bumgarner on his own. He let him get away with it in the first inning. Maybe he would've warned him the next inning or tossed him later, not at that point of the game.
One other thing. MadBum has been pitching in the league for at least 10 years now. Everyone in the league knows he’s a hot head. That being said. MadBum said his stuff to the home plate ump and both MadBum and the home plate ump moved on. Touchy feely guy clearly was offended by MadBum saying “you missed two strike calls.”

The umpire here was totally instigated this ejection. He begged for something to happen. Unfortunately Bumgarner wasn't level headed enough to say "am I good to go or you want a hotel?" Something less offensive than "Fuck you". Calling his manager over would've been smarter but hey its Bumgarner.

This is one of those moments like “Longest Yard” style, where if that Ump is ever behind home plate, Madbum is gonna throw an upper 90’s fastball up, and the catcher is gonna move out of the way
Seems like it should be simple enough for the umps to just make the pitcher shake their hand at the end of each inning. Also when he was the one that instigated the situation by staring at him for that long and when the player reacted then kicks him out the game really uncalled for and unprofessional as an umpire.
MLB really needs to stop this “I’m the supreme ruler” that these umpires show towards these players. They are there to do a job. And I know I’m not the only one. And when stuff like this happens in a game. I simply change the channel. FIX THIS PROBLEM MLB. OR YOU’RE GOING TO LOSE A LOT OF FANS !!!!
Yeah they gotta do something about this... So an umpire can weirdly bait a player into asking him "what the fuck are you doing?", and then he can throw the player out? And even if you say they are gonna review this umpire's conduct and possibly discipline him, that doesn't help the team that got it's starting pitcher ejected from the game... There has to be some kind of mechanic implemented into baseball where an appeal of an ejection can be made right there on the spot and possibly overturned, or maybe something similar to basketball where you get like a 'technical', kinda like a warning, instead of an immediate ejection... I'll admit, Bumgarner is a baby sometimes, but I gotta say, this time I would have done the same thing he did... That umpire is a freak, just weirdly feeling Bumgarner up, 🤣🤣
Adding some sort of a technical to baseball would be a creative solution. At current there's just warnings, which have no real consequence on the game. It could be implemented to where the team loses their challenge if you don't to impact what happens on the field.

And of course we know the sorry excuse for an MLB commissioner is going to do literally nothing about this because he doesn't care. And if they won't fire this umpire he needs to be suspended without pay and he needs to talk to Madison bumgarner directly apologize to his face and admit that he did wrong. And if he doesn't want to comply with that then he can continue to be suspended without pay.
out of the past 8 seasons, the season of this ejection ('22) was the only one where this umpire didn't work in the postseason (and thus didn't get paid for the extra games)

But I'd start with a Billy Martin or similar. ;)

The fact that the ump IMMEDIATELY jumped to "I didn't say a word." as a claim of innocence suggests that he had this all planned out for quite some time.

Madison is a grown man. In every other scenario in life he would be wrong for overreacting.

And I know I’m not the only one. And when stuff like this happens in a game. I simply change the channel. FIX THIS PROBLEM MLB. OR YOU’RE GOING TO LOSE A LOT OF FANS !!!!
There's no point in watching a game with Angel, especially if he's behind the plate. Everyone knows it will be an utter shitshow.
@@sinocte and if he’s umping first. It’s constant video reviews overturning his bad calls.
Another example of why unions can be bad. This ump obviously feels he can do anything and suffer zero consequences
If I were Bumgarner, I would have said: "So you wanna take me to Chili's first?"
Lmao. Just as I’m thinking “that’s a look of a seriel killer” jomboy legit says it. Amazing timing
That umpire is a freak, just weirdly feeling Bumgarner up, 🤣🤣
Easy. An umpire who ejects a player must also leave the game and be replaced. 🤷♂️
Adding some sort of a technical to baseball would be a creative solution. At current there's just warnings, which have no real consequence on the game. It could be implemented to where the team loses their challenge if you don't to impact what happens on the field.
MLB umpires are no good pricks. All of them. Hey MLB!! Your public is watching and they’re getting more pissed every day.
Well done to his catcher noticing what was happening and waiting for him and backing him up. That umpire is a straight whack job.
He was worried that the pitcher was going to keep crying about balls and Strikes in the first fucking inning
Please do a follow up on this one! Ever wonder why the players Union doesn’t publicly Sue the Ump Union? This is not the top of the list but is in top 5.
Dude's acting like he's a Cop, protecting his Brothers in Blue. DUDE YOU'RE AN UMPIRE!!! 🤦♂️
That's how I saw that. Like he couldn't wait to pounce on him.
Yup. Major cop energy from this jackass ump.
@@brianew pitcher should have made a noise like he was about to climax LOL!
A cop? Lol! Get a grip mate.
100% acting like a cop lol these umps man, it's sad. just an obvious display of abuse of power
When I've done this to other people at work in the past, I either have a great night or I get fired...
