I use a clinch knot to tie my line to my spool. The same knot I use to tie my lures on. If all your line is out you don’t have to worry about it popping off.
It can be harder to get soft and supple braid to go through a hole than just going around the spool sometimes. Depends on the spool and the holes and the size of the braid.
Use a cheap mono backing or it’s gonna slip. You only need to spoil enough to cover the spool and then you can use a double uni knot to connect your braid and then it’s good to go!
@aidenp7232 This isn't correct. If you put braided line right onto your spinning reel, you could risk get spooled and wasting money, but a base of standard monofilament line can stop that. Here’s why you should put mono backing on your spinning reel when using braided line: Reason #1: Braided line has the tendency to free-spin on a spool. Braid is so slick and thin that if you get a big fish on, your entire spool of braid might start spinning freely. You’ll know this is happening to you if you notice line peeling off your reel, but even when you tighten down your drag all the way it still doesn’t stop the fish. Monofilament, on the other hand, grips into the arbor (the center of the spool) and will not freely spin. Monofilament acts as a cheap filler. Braid is expensive, and most reels need a few hundred yards of line to properly fill them. Most braided lines come in 150-yd spools, which won’t fill a 3000 series reel, so 100-150 yards of mono backing will help fill it. If you don’t fill your reel with line, you’ll lose a lot of casting distance because the gap between the top of the spool and the line will cause friction as it’s leaving the reel. Now, have YOU ever used braided line before? 😂
@@wesleypipesgaming19 Okok but… he’s using a baitcaster, not a spinning reel 😂😂😂, the tape that he put on the spool is plenty for the braid to catch ahold of
@@coltonhale7070 you’re right if you put enough tape it will work but the reason mono or something like that is better is because it allows you to spool your line evenly. It’s impossible to get a flat base with tape man.
OK spinning reel sure electrical tape is getting braided to stick isn’t pain in the butt but a bait caster just feed it through two of the holes and tie knot and then put the knot upside down and then when you reel it it’s doesn’t need to stick to anything because it’s already connected to the spool
You need some kind of backing on that line like mono or Fluoro. Your spool is going to free spin not allowing the drag to engage. I had this issue starting out with braid. I tie a uniknot and a leader line I like to use a blood or fg knot.
@@officialfishboss The electrical tape would have to be on the spool before you tie. Otherwise that line can easily slip. I had this happen in the beginning when I first started using braid. I could never figure it out until my father in law took my reel apart.

@@ballsack8937 the reason is because if braid has any looseness in it at all, your line will bite into itself and dug into the spool. Braid has to be perfectly tight on a baitcaster, with mono it doesn't matter. Braid honestly sucks on low profile baitcasters anyway
You do not need tape or mono or none of that , you tie it through the spool and then reel it up, if it slips it’s because you didn’t spool it with enough tension. Tape and mono trick is just a joke.

This is not the proper way. The proper way is to attach about 15yds of equal strength mono then tie the braid to that. This way it is physically impossible for the line to spin on the spool.
Sorry but this is a crummy way to put braid on any real first overtime, the braid will loosen and start to slip on the spool regardless of how much tape you put on it, and putting tape on a low mass spool is a bad idea because it adds weight to the spool and kind of defeats the purpose always put a little backing of mono or Floro to keep the braid from spinning on your spool. If you have holes in your school that allow you to pass the breakthrough from one hole to another to tie on your overhand knot that's totally acceptable.
