It should be noted that some trimmer heads turn clockwise and other counterclockwise. This makes a difference when installing the head. I learned this the hard way.
Installed the Echo 450 head on my Stihl FS 55 R and it works like a dream. Glad I watched your video but I could not use the spacer as mentioned. Thanks! Gave my old Echo to my Brother in law and have wanted to throw this Stihl in the trash ever since I purchased it. Name it trimmer rescue.........😁
* make sure the green nut is driven ALL THE WAY IN, it goes past the flush from the back and will not link up to the bolt if not driven the 3/16 past the flush...
Thank you for making this video. Instruction for this suck, as I was. Trying to install it on my FS56 today and gave up. Figured I would fine someone on RUclips had done this before.
After several hours of confusion I watched several videos. Yours was by far the very best! Thanks so much for reliving my stressful day! Ps I did not use the spacer. Would not work with the space and it works great!
Thank you so much the first time I purchased one of these and I thought I had to load it like the others try to load it and it wouldn’t work so I log onto RUclips seeing your video it was so much helpful step-by-step I really appreciate it thank you so much 😊
Great Video! I have an Echo Spilt Boom Weed Eater that needed a need new Trimmer Head, my local John Deere dealer recommend the Speed Feed Trimmer head. It's an Easy install when using instructions. Very Easy New string install. I would definetely recommend this string head.
It would have been nice to see how you got the old one off as I had to watch a different video to get that info. The speed feed I got was a little different than the one in your video, but your video was a big help. Thank you
I personally only use speed feed heads on echo trimmers, when it comes to other brands I just use the heads that they come with, I’m not really one of those people who are totally crazy over the speed feed heads
Most owners don't know this, but there is a grease bolt on the side that should be undone each season and filled with gearbox grease. That head is spinning at hundreds/thousands of RPM's..treat your gearbox nice!! Give it some grease.
Nice video and cool to see the hunker down sweat shirt. I just switched to the stihl speed line head and it's a nice thing. Though not sure about it's durability. A lot of my trail maintenance is grubbing, and grubbing is hard on trimmer heads.
Just seeing this for the first time, noticed that this is three years old. Also noticed that this is the speed feed head that is sold on Amazon. Question, has it held up? Have heard some of them fly apart, some don't. Looking at the HIPA model on Amazon that sells for about $21 ... looks like the one you showed. Thanks for the assist.
I’d twist the top plate. It’s got grooves in it for grip. With lengthy string and turning the bottom, they twist up. Also, that bottom plate wears out prematurely throughout constant use. I’ve ran these and the auto-cut on my fs131R and I’m going back to traditional. I’d recommend this one over the auto cut if a rapid feed design is a must have. Too many cons to the auto cut.
@@RunBikeMike I'm not sure how you put that spool on with that black plastic piece mine wouldn't even thread on with all the same parts and mine is a Stihl FS 56rc

@@RunBikeMike I figured out how to make it work. Took the bushing out of the Stihl head that came with the trimmer and put it into the speed feed, worked like a charm. None of the ones that came with it worked on mine. I have the fs131 with the handles.

Excellent video. I’ve been fighting the 27-2 Sthil line getting jammed . I will buy this for sure. Thank you!!
Bro, your video is so understandable, even people that don't speak english can do that installation, good job !
Haha awesome

Stihl has their own version of speed feeders.
are they good heads? do they work properly?

Thanks for the advice. I thought I bought the wrong model
So much better than the one my stihl came with, what a pain.
what type did yours come with, please?
@@sherryleeperdue9576 One you have to disassemble to replace the line, it probably takes 3 times as long to replace the line.

Hipa makes a nice one also that has received great reviews.

Why didn't you use the white piece vs the black?
How to put them on the stihl electric trimmers? Cant find any guides. Jakmax head similar to oregon?
Love how there’s absolutely no zoom on the installation
I have an FS91r and if I leave that plastic round spacer on, the threads from the trimmer will not reach into the green piece.
Never used one but I think I will be buying one
How do I get the old spool off
Use small screwdriver. There is a small hole at the top of Stihl trimmers you put that in and turn the head.
@@RunBikeMike I'm not sure how you put that spool on with that black plastic piece mine wouldn't even thread on with all the same parts and mine is a Stihl FS 56rc
The only way I got it to work was to take it fully apart and push the treaded part up to the trimmer head.
@@RunBikeMike I try it again this will be the fifth time I have had it apart
I use traditional trimmer head!
Great Video! Where did you get the spacer?
How do you get the Stihl trimmer head off.
Amy issues with bump feed? Reading some reviews that it can be difficult. To point of slamming into ground.
So far it has worked perfectly
Is this LH5 I stallation instructions?
Can this speed head be installed on a stihl curved shaft? Thank you for the video. PLEASE reply
It will install on most trimmers. You will want to check your model number
@@RunBikeMike Thank you. The model number is FS40CE easy2start FS40. Stihl Curved shaft. Can you please check it out for me? THANK YOU

so wonderful beautiful video Mike i love it see so nice

Nice string trimmers heads not my friend lol. Thanks will consider
I am kicking myself for not getting this sooner. It is a game changer for me.
Good video 👍🏻🇺🇸
Will this work on Stihl F5 56RC?>
If it has the standard Stihl trimmer head then yes it will.
mine keeps getting tight every time I push the trigger ,it spins for like 2 seconds and then it tightens so much I can't use it
Make sure you have the spacer between the head and trimmer. I used the black spacer.

Yes
Just bought a speed feed….
Would have been nice to show how to remove the stihl head first.
