  • This winter I have been carrying my Canon EOS R5 with an adapter that makes it so I can use my vintage Minolta Rokkor lenses. I've been enjoying the unique characteristics of the vintage glass in certain situations. Sometimes just the act of manually focusing also slow me down to think about the photographic processes. Since I have not being shooting film for a while this is a way to get a bit of that vibe & look again.

I started using my Zenit lens on my R7, and it looks great! That’s exactly the feeling.

My ancient Helios 44-2 still really has that vintage yellowed look compared to the modern TTArtisan M42 remakes. They have more saturation, sharpness, and contrast, but there's a charachter that can't be replicated without severe doctoring

When shooting digitial I only put old m42 lenses on my 5dmk3 even for professional shoots

Nice. I don’t believe I have anything in that mount that is very good quality.

I love old lenses on modern cameras! Until recently I was using a Nikon F-mount camera which is hard (impossible maybe?) to adapt to other systems but still let you use an awful lot of vintage F-mount lenses, because that mount's been around forever. I upgraded to a Z-mount camera and got an old Pentax medium format lens that's *magic*. I also have a bunch of lenses for my Mamiya RZ and am thinking about getting the Fotodiox adapter for them, though it's not cheap (as you know, those lenses don't have any built-in focusing, so the adapter's more complex).
My favorite F-mount lens is the Nikon 50/1.2 (not the crazy expensive Noct! Their smaller/"worse" 1.2). I love the way it gets weird when it's wide open but it's still good enough to not be obnoxious if you stop it down a little bit.

I really need to get one of my Nikons going. I haven't shot F since my F3 died. There are lots of good lenses here because the old owner shot Nikon's on location his whole career.
      - which is the same reason I have so much RZ stuff - that is what he used here at the studio. Those lenses are so great - I never even thought about adapting them though!! (guess I didn't know it was possible!)

In some ways, I prefer the tone & contrast of older lenses vs the modern stuff.

Definitely depends. I should have mentioned that I added a lot of contrast and a decent amount of saturation in the snow photos - will remember to show a before/after next time. But I didn't add that much to the indoor photos.
