  • This is one of a series of videos covering the full dismantling, restoration and rebuild of a Norton Commando engine and gearbox. This particular video shows the valves and valve springs being removed from the cylinder head. After that the head is cleaned and inspected and made ready to be sent to the engineer's to be skimmed, have new valves and valve guides fitted, and a broken fin repaired.

    I agree with you Chris on reusing the main bearings if they feel and look good. You never know what you will get with new ones, and these have been "proven out".

    for the lower barrel and crankcase faces do you ever have them 'skimmed'?

      I believe that you can have the crankcase face (or deck to give it its proper name) skimmed, but not sure about the bottom of the barrels.

      I'm afraid I don't know, I just received the engine as was.
