Apparently it was very expensive to produce which is one of the major reasons for why it got canceled. It’s also crazy how basically a two person team were controlling the suit. The person in the suit itself and the person controlling the animatronics in the head.
Binged the whole series recently & this really make you appreciate what a technical achievement this show was. Each of the full sized dinosaurs is played by 3 people ; a voice actor, a suit actor & a puppeteer remote controlling the head, & all 3 of them have to be totally in sync to create a believable character
Anything Jim Henson related I always watched. I learned about how in sync they had to be when I saw the making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back when they had to make Yoda look believable.
This show was extremely artsy and advanced for its time. And the humor very clever and not corny or childish like I would have expected. Very underrated

I feel this show was underappreciated back then, at least form a tech and special effects standpoint. The coordination between the actors and the puppeteers that controlled the faces must have been astounding not to mention the actors be in good shape to actually do their jobs in those heavy suits.

They were able to make extremely detailed suits with fully animatronic faces suits with that high a quality on a TV show budget back in the early 90's.... yet in today's damn near half a billion dollar movies all the can give us is bad PS 3 quality boneless, unnaturally animated, plastic cartoons? What the hell is wrong with this world? Note: I'm not saying the PS 3 was bad, it's just bad that high end movies don't look any better then real time graphics that can be put out on a last gen game system)

'Dinosaurs' was kind of like Henson's last mark he made after he died. It's unfortunate, but still, he left a gloriousl gem behind for us to enjoy.
blair170 the material the costumes don't last too long they last at least 7 years so they are probably trashed now. The baby is the last one still in decent condition, but it will probably won't be long before it falls apart too

For some reason I thought those were puppets... Not human sized suits! As a kid, I noticed that outside of the main characters, they reused the "models" for side characters all the time. And I didn't know if I was to think they were the same characters or not. Well, now I know why. Those suits had to be expansive as hell to make.
Since my three years old has been on and on about "baby t-rex", I decided to show Dinosaurs to her and her 7 years old sister. When it started, they both start yelling "Not the momma! Not the momma!" I was surprised they knew about this show at all. There is hope in humanity after all.

This show was aired in Germany up until the late 90's when I was about 7. I remember watching it, sometimes with my parents, although most jokes went over my head back then. I kinda miss the crazy times when most things had to be created without the help of CGI^^

As a child, and even years later during the rewatch, I never considered that this are real people inside a suit. They were so unbeliveble good in charakter plus the animatronics. This show is absolutely unique and I'm happy I growed up with this!

I was 2 when this video came on youtube and I watch this all the time.
Loved that show to death as a child. Even nowadays, I wouldn't have figured out how they did it. It's quite astounding tech. Also, it's incredible they could still dance in those costumes like that, if they're so heavy.

One of the best kids shows ever!
Loved that show to death as a child. Even nowadays, I wouldn't have figured out how they did it. It's quite astounding tech.
Also, it's incredible they could still dance in those costumes like that, if they're so heavy.
