Man as a carpenter I find it super funny everyone is after you about the drywall screws. It's model trian layout not a load bearing wall in a house lol. Also just for everyone's information, Drywall screws, contruction screws and decking screws are all non structural screws. Unless your using a screw with packaging that specifically states its design for load bearing applications its not legal for house construction. Its your layout man, use whatever screws ya want. Keep up the good work, excited to see what you build in your new studio!
Good to see you back to your old self Dave. And a new layout to boot. Should be great having all Verne's diorama pieces on their own layout. I always enjoyed seeing his work when he was on Railroad Line Forums. So this will be a fitting tribute to his fine work. I will be interested to see what you now have planned for that vacant space on the Thunder Mesa layout. Take care. Regards Rob.
This was well worth the wait so excited to see this come together. Love the story behind this layout and how you honor your friends memory. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
I love this! Verne was a huge reason why I got back into model trains, and On30 in general. It is awesome to see his legacy carried on in this mini layout design. I can't wait to see what happens to this.
Great plan Dave, seems like it was yesterday when you, Verne and I sat at his dining table making saguaros. Hard to believe it’s been ten years. Thanks for keeping his memory alive.
Verne was a great modeler and a great guy. I got to know him towards the end of his modeling n scale. He was a great inspiration for my n scale modeling. I was a follower of his On30 modeling. He is greatly missed. Thanks for preserving his legacy.
After dinner I sat at the PC to check if you had posted anything. Nothing showed. Then about a minute later my phone said you had!!! Good to see you. Interesting project.
Thank you for posting this! I love looking at the different layouts, but this one is more an inspiration for me to build something simple not overwhelming. To go from trains on a board/daydreaming to an actual layout. Maybe just a little bigger to accommodate a passing track the couple of turnouts. Welcome back and glad to see new content from you. 🤟
Dear Dave. I'm following your clips since a while of 3 - 4 Years. recognizing a change deep in you? right?? but come on, your're a winner, not prepared for the chicken run. the new interesting project showed again the brilliant way to create a dream from nothing/something to a diorama. I hope to see you soon here on the Chanel. take care, all the best. regards from Germany Wolfgang
Thank you. FYI.....I use drywall screws. Sometimes with a little wood glue. Holds like a champ. You will never be able to back them out with glue already applied.
Thanks Dave....looking forward to the continuation of this build! Thanks for preserving Vern's work on this mini layout. The only question I have is what happens to Santo Poco on the main layout?
Great to see this getting a dedicated layout! It will properly honor Vern. Will you be bringing it to the Fiesta next year? Oh yeah, by the way... the back drop is also a great idea. It will hide the A/C unit. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)
Hi Dave, please your back to model building, it seems like ever since you've done any modeling,so let's get back to normal after the relocation to you man's cave 👍
Is this the same Verne Niner that had the beautiful N scale Santa Fe layout? He was a big inspiration to me when I was building my N scale layout when I spent so much time on Trainboard.
Great project, nice to put all those structures on a single diorama. If you where going to put that foam "hil" at the center, why did you took the time to cut the center of the plywood?
As I mentioned in the video, to reduce weight, and it's much easier to go through the foam alone when adding lights etc, than having to go through foam and plywood.
Having never used one, how “fumey” is the hot wire foam cutter? I’m thinking noxious vapors! Sure is cleaner than sawing the stuff! And what brand of hot wire tool do you use?
@@tomt9543 You should always cut foam in a well ventilated area. The pink polystyrene is rated for residential use, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to huff the fumes. They're are many good manufacturers of hotwire cutters and they're all about the same. This is the one I use: a.co/d/g4TKuQU
This is a cool intersection of my interests that you too may find interesting. PFM sound system synths, being used by a professional producer and sound engineer. ruclips.net/video/wfu6wGAp83o/видео.htmlsi=fB2_F44-7WvY-uGX

I think I have broken more wood screws then dry wall screws. :)
Working with white foam beadboard is an experience that sticks with you. Literally.
I know. I've just been doing it! Fortunately it was just a small piece for a small diorama, to learn to do static grass on.
Good to see you back to your old self Dave. And a new layout to boot.

Thanks! Stay tuned
Absolutely love your layout, skills and for sharing your knowledge and techniques. 👍👍
Glad to see you found the joy of modeling again

GOD BLESS 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
I love watching something being built properly. Carefully. Plumb. Level. Square.
I love this! Verne was a huge reason why I got back into model trains, and On30 in general. It is awesome to see his legacy carried on in this mini layout design. I can't wait to see what happens to this.
Thanks for the conversation about Vern. Some of us didn’t know about this person and contribution. Good thinking on your part Dave.
I've been into model railroading for 50 years and watching your videos has really taught me alot. Thanks. I'm into N gauge trains myself. Thanks again
Great plan Dave, seems like it was yesterday when you, Verne and I sat at his dining table making saguaros. Hard to believe it’s been ten years. Thanks for keeping his memory alive.
It was only yesterday, wasn't it? Good to hear from you Travis! Your cacti are still the best

This is going to be a great build series! l’ve watched it 3 times now!🤣 I’m planning on a 2’x4’ mini layout as well with an ON18 hidden mine.
Yay a new videos! I love it when you post new vids!
I've used drywall screws in three different layouts and never had a problem.
It's cool that Mr. Niner's dio will get to be the centerpiece of it's own layout. I'm looking forward to more.
Bigger is not always better, small layouts are cool too!
Great start Dave on a fantastic tribute!

Excellent, Always great to see Vernes work remembered and able to be seen by a new generation, looking forward to what you come up with.
Happy holidays Dave thanks for the video!
Hello Dave,
I love your mini layouts, I'm looking forward to seeing the progress.
Greetings from Germany
Wood screws rock! I use them for everything. A day without wood screws is like a day without sunshine!

Another good video! Thanks,Dave! I’m excited to see where this goes!
🚂🚞🚞🚞
This was very helpful to me. I liked seeing how you did the structural work below the trackwork. Thanks.
Interesting and educational video, thanks for showing. 👍👍🎥🚂Have a good week.
If all you have is a HAMMER - EVERYTHING looks like a NAIL!
Looks great, can't wait to see the rest.
Good to see your AC unit again Dave
Thank you. FYI.....I use drywall screws. Sometimes with a little wood glue. Holds like a champ. You will never be able to back them out with glue already applied.
Welcome back my friend. Terrific project
Great to see you having fun again 👍🏻 and looks like a great memorial layout 🌵🌵
Thanks for sharing and happy holydays.
thank you detail video as great watching and joy time
Good episode, thx.
Its great to see you back Dave. I've missed your weekly videos. Cant wait to watch the progression of the San Lorenzo Layout. Thanks!
Great to see you back Dave ! 🧨⛏🧨⛏🇬🇧
Love those buildings and the scene itself is great.
As usual another great video!! Thanks again for all you do. Keep moving forward my friend. (love that line).
Awesome is all I can add.
Wonderful video and backstory. I'm always excited to see when you post a new video!
Welcome back Dave and a wonderful video to get back into it ❤
Really enjoyed this episode. The mini layout is a great idea.
Great start to what looks like a really fun little layout
Glad you’re back and good to see a new project. Always a great source for tips.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Great video, thank you!
❤❤❤❤awesome project Daved.😊😊😊😊😊
Brilliant
Looking forward to seeing you transform wood, styrofoam, glue and paint onto another kinetic three dimensional art scape
Thanks Dave....looking forward to the continuation of this build!
Thanks for preserving Vern's work on this mini layout. The only question I have is what happens to Santo Poco on the main layout?
Thank you. I'll be talking about that in the near future.
@ThunderMesaStudio Happy Holidays, Dave
It would be cool to have a ghost rider reference
Great to see this getting a dedicated layout! It will properly honor Vern. Will you be bringing it to the Fiesta next year? Oh yeah, by the way... the back drop is also a great idea. It will hide the A/C unit. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)
Thanks! Current plans are to bring it to the Riverside fiesta
Love it.
Hi Dave, please your back to model building, it seems like ever since you've done any modeling,so let's get back to normal after the relocation to you man's cave 👍
Wood screws are merely a scam perpetuated by big screw to make sure your workshop has more doodads than you'd ever need.
😆
They sure do screw yah
That’s screwed. Well bolted. I guess.
I see more MDC shorty car conversions in the future. Also, what would a kitbashed Mexican Gas Mechanical look like?
Dave, thanks for making San Lorenzo great again.
Wow! Its got air conditioning!
Is this the same Verne Niner that had the beautiful N scale Santa Fe layout? He was a big inspiration to me when I was building my N scale layout when I spent so much time on Trainboard.
One and the same!

As I mentioned in the video, to reduce weight, and it's much easier to go through the foam alone when adding lights etc, than having to go through foam and plywood.
Will this be at Riverside? Puerto Borracho Railway
That's the plan!
The only way to work with white foam beadboard and stay sane is to do so naked.
LOL wood screws are for people who care more about the process than the results. Tweak all the purists next time and use left over deck screws :)
😆
I suggest he use old railroad spikes soaked in super glue! Keeping with the railroad theme and all! Lol! It’s yours! Screw it how you want!😅
