    I decluttered my house last year. We had some friends over for New Year’s that hadn’t been to my house in awhile and two of them told my hubby- wow! Ur house is so clean and organized. I still had my xmas stuff up, but my house was not cluttered. There was nothing but food for the party on the counters. There was minimal furniture and knick knacks. Cleaning is so easy when u don’t have a lot of stuff!

    Dana recommends using donatable containers so that once it’s full, you can take your stuff and the container it’s in straight out of the house into your car. This was a game changer for me as I didn’t have to touch the items again and I didn’t need to wait until I had something to put the items in to donate them

    In my family we do what we call the"Cleaning Olympics" When we watch tv as a family, whenever the commercials come on we get up and see who can clean the most. Sometimes I use a spinning chart wheel to make it more fun and have a few fun squares too. We try to complete the task before the commercial is up. Since it's only for around 2 minutes it's not so bad and who cares about commercials anyhow. Still working on getting rid of some clutter. Thanks for the video :)

    Dana’s no-mess method has been a game changer for me. If you run out of decluttering energy quickly or get interrupted a lot (by children, other tasks, etc.), definitely give it a try because it’s made a HUGE difference in my house. It doesn’t matter if you have 30 minutes or 15 minutes or 5 minutes, you can make noticeable progress.

    ❤ Dana K White, her no mess decluttering method, start with trash first, the container concept, etc. You absolutely cannot organize clutter. You should declutter first then organize / buy storage containers if you need to. I've found if you need storage containers shop your home first. Use what you already have, a shoe box, your old mobile phone box, rectangular/ square food container, a box and see if it meets your needs first before running out to buy anything. Great video.

    My husband, my almost 3 yo son and I live in a 39m² flat. We all sleep in the main room/bed room. Our flat is so small that we really need to be careful with what we bring into the flat. We live very minimal but we promise ourselves that we will give the best quality of life for our son. We shower him with educational toys and those alone already fill up the flat more than 1/4. So in order to keep "his stuff" around, we limit our own stuff (my husbands and mine) . The kitchen only holds multifunctional items and most importantly, we don't keep unused stuff. I have been decluttering my clothes and my son's clothes that always change per season. He's only a toddler so his clothes tend to be outgrown very fast and consume more space. This is the one thing I always pay attention more than the other. I pray that God grand us bigger place to live in so we can give him his own room but surely being an essentialist/minimalist family, help us tremendously to stay sane and content 😊

    • @tarynmaria_
      @tarynmaria_  5 месяцев назад +4

      Love that! My husband and I lived in a small apartment until our first baby was 3 and we loved it - it was definitely harder to keep it minimal but it was cozy for us. I honestly think minimizing stuff and keeping things less cluttered, no matter what size home you have is the best thing to do for peace of mind 😊

    • @danabrown2391
      @danabrown2391 5 месяцев назад +6

      Even with "educational" toys you SHOWER your toddler with, he doesn't need very many! They have discovered that kids, whatever age, play much better and longer when they o my have a few to choose from!

    • @BA-kh9fb
      @BA-kh9fb 5 месяцев назад +5

      In my opinion, educational toys are a marketing gimmick. Interacting with your child builds a better brain than any of them. Read to your child. Talk to them lots, you can just talk about what you are doing and why. Do a little research and ditch most of the toys guilt free.

    • @Smithpolly
      @Smithpolly 5 месяцев назад +1

      Part of giving the best quality of life to your son is giving the best quality of life to both yourself and your husband. There is three people living in the home not just your son. He's an important member of the family but no more important than you and your husband. If cutting back on some of the toys would help you and your husband feel more relaxed in your home, that will probably benefit everybody in the family including your son.

    Her method is great but I never actually used it. I've basically just used the onion method to peel away the layers of unwanted and unused items and participated in some decluttering challenges along the way. In a sense, I used the "Duh Donations" step at the beginning (it's very rare I'd keep trash around but I would just toss it at the same time as I was picking out items to donate) to peel away the outer layers of the onion. Dana K White just didn't take it far enough for me and get to the core of it. For her, if you have the space for it, you can keep it. I have good organizational tetris skills so I wouldn't have made much progress with her method. With her, there's no deep journey like what minimalists go on to discover what really matters. Her only questions are, "Where would I look for this first?" and, "If I needed this item, would it occur to me that I already have it?" There's no delving into why you're keeping excess (tops, linens, drinking glasses, toiletries, decor, etc.) as long as it all fits in closets and cupboards and drawers and storage bins. I've had some great realizations and breakthroughs on my own independent journey so I'm glad I decluttered in a way that came natural to me. However, I understand how this would be helpful to those who are drowning in clutter and can't figure out how to start.
