    We took several hundred thousand yards of blue clay that behaved just like this out of boston, during the big dig, I spread a good portion of it on landfills with D6r LGP dozers just like this set up. really cool material to work in.

  • @MagnifiedGiant

    It always bugs me when dozers push any kind of distance and do not use their natural ridges to hold more "dirt" in front of the machine. I was taught to always push in the same line basically creating a trench that you are pushing in so that dirt does not spill out the sides of the blade allowing you to carry more dirt in each push. Maybe it wouldn't make a huge difference with this material but I would have liked to see a video showing both techniques to compare.

    We had blue mud in the coal mines, sometimes it was that way all the way to the seam and sometimes you have a sand type soil 10-20ft down, either way it sucks but makes for a smooth ride!!!

    Before i read the comments.
    I know its not dirt. It looks more like pond sediment. From a strip mine . Or from a drained pond or small lake.
    Clay would be sticking to the undercarriage.

      As a guy who grew Up on farm with clay soil,I always loved plowing bc the way it rolled. As for the tractor,clay made it roll coal too..

      They are essentially slot dozing bulk dirt/clay with the bulldozers. I’m assuming because it would cake into the bucket of an excavator to much

    Nice vid, thx for sharing, do you know if operators tried to push side by side? LGP tracks are efficient on that kind of soil. Imagine the size of the roll with a D11R LGP tracks equipped! :-)

      vistaquad There’s another video of a D9 and two D6’s pushing side by side. They only done it for me as the D9 is too heavy on the soft clay.

    Ok. I haven't scrolled down yet to see the comments. BUT I'm about to. And I Guarantee that there's more than one person who HAD to say..."that's not dirt. Its clay" (armchair Engineering) cause there's always at least 1. Ok.... here I go!

    • @AwesomeEarthmovers
      @AwesomeEarthmovers  4 года назад +6

      Matthew Downing You definitely don’t need to be psychic to figure there’s going to be plenty of armchair experts. Dirts a catch all word for every type of material that comes out of the ground except for rock and oil. The material in the video isn’t technically clay anyway. It’s material that has settled and dried in old settling ponds. It’s probably closest to a material called sleech that you find in Marshy areas close to river basins.
