Spike Jones came to the east coast and took pics of a bunch of us including Grasso and they were published in Go magazine. Craig was a big time street rider and we had made a big street scene in downtown Raleigh with every Sunday rides that turned into huge gatherings from the top riders that were in town on a given Sunday. Pros from all over came to ride downtown with us.
Jason Lee probably got it through Spike Jonze who was working for bmx magazines as a photographer at the time (although he barely mentions his bmx roots ever). Craig Grasso was a street bmx pioneer.
That "Hobo Tour" was in like '89 with Jason Lee wearing that Craig Grasso tee. The Hensley photo wearing the tee was from around 1991. This segment effin' rules btw. Big Up Bobby!
I had the same shirt. I believe I bought it at the Trend Bike Source booth at a contest in the summer of 1989. Ozone Bike Company sponsored Grasso and produced the shirt because it also said "Ozone" on there.
There's some Grasso footage on this old SF bike messenger video. ruclips.net/video/q6EmbaZYRn8/видео.html He was a pretty big name in BMX freestyle in the 80's, i was a big fan, and he always seemed to fit more into the like the punk and skate culture than the rich kid BMX culture. I wish I knew what he was up to now.
