Natural History Museum Mammal Hall UPDATE!

On the 29th March the Mammal Hall re-opened after 7 months of work. I visited the very next day so see what changes have been made: some good, some bad, some baffling!

Very interesting to see what's changed. Kinda a shame a lot of the species are missing but I like the open-ness of it. Also cool that the elephant species are all still there and that the Moeritherium finally got some new paint on its trunk. Hope to visit again soon

I just watch the Natural History Museum Alive two days ago, that documentary was amazing! It's a shame that a lot is getting removed. 😢

Very true, there are quite a few exhibits that will be missed. I just hope that the continued renovation work sees new pieces take their place.

I haven’t been there since Dec 2015 and I don’t remember anything about the displays and have no photos. It’s good to watch this video and see the before and after. I agree with the comments about the removal of the horse display.

I think I've been to the mammal hall about as many times as the dinosaur hall, which is why I know it so well! With regards to the horses, I think the fossils and models could be reused, but definitely to reflect our modern understanding of their evolution. It's notable that Hippidion, an animal that bucks the trend (pun intended), is locked away in a separate case so as not to disrupt the narrative.

The dinosaur hall doesn't need a renovation, it needs an exorcism, just tear it all down and start again 😭

@@Edaphosaurus Ahaha yeah I visited it in 2016 and I was a little let down by it, I get that the retro reconstruction of the skeletons it’s part of the charm of the museum but I can’t help but feeling disappointed when I see dragging-tailed dinosaur and retro reconstruction in a museum
