Uninvited visitors at my homestead!

- I have finally started my solo off-grid shipping container home build and I could not be more excited!
In the last couple of weeks, I finished building my own house foundations for under $6k when I was quoted $60k for contractors to do it, I installed a concrete shed slab myself for under $4k, and I got the SHIPPING CONTAINERS delivered and placed on the footings I built before winter hit!
This week I need to finish getting my posts in for my jetty before the dam fills up and due to some uninvited guests, I'll be making a temporary gate.
I have recently moved across the country due to the housing crisis and bought an off-grid property with the dream to build my own container house.
I became an owner builder and after 8 months of design and planning I was approved to build my own home in Western Australia.

Just a friendly tip with shipping containers, when you open them and go inside make sure the levers are latched back to the container door with the swivel bit because if you don't and a freak wind blows the door shut you're locked in, people have come to grief like this because they couldn't get out and help didn't come soon enough, not trying to be a kill joy but it's a simple thing that a lot of people overlook.
Haha shit that just scared the crap out of me thank you for the warning!! I will from now on
And keep something inside to get you out, just in case
Pretty sure he’s just trying to help, who knows if all the latches are the same? It’s good information to have anyway. 😊😊😊
Hey superwoman, cool video, your doing a good job. Make sure you watch safety videos on the use of chainsaws, you also need to know how to sharpen the chain with a file. Stay well and be safe 💖
This looks good is the dam a swimming hole or
Just for water during dry periods ?
Being an indigenous man from country Victoria I really admire your courage in following your dreams and your respect for country and nature...it's not easy going back to the basics and living of the land but we'll worth it...well done jazmin love your work
Thank you so very much I really appreciate it! It’s not easy but I honestly believe life isn’t meant to be easy and we are making ourselves too comfortable and therefore becoming less resilient and independent, definitely well worth it , thank you so much !
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_JasGreetings from Texas. My son and I converse about your point a lot. We are building a nature Preserve and there is a lot of sweat equity.
With so much clay in your soil, you could extract the clay out of it, build a kiln, and make pottery. So many possibilities: plant containers, bowls, mugs, dog bowls, outdoor oven, etc. All basically free.
That’s exactly what I want to do!!! I’m thinking doing primitive style for the kiln though old open fire style 😍🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_JasI have thought of doing this but making bricks and building with them.
On your wood gate instead of using varnish if you can get used motor oil and some diesel fuel do a 80/20 mix and use that on any wood that you have outdoors. It will persevere the wood for many many years and the bugs won’t touch it! Good Luck!
Wow that’s so good to know thank you so much ☺️
Yes, I know to use old motor oil on wood to stain however it will smell a bit and never use, until properly dried, in ground you want to plant or near water.
Who needs home renovation shows on TV Sunday night. This is the better and “real” reality.
Your drive, strength and can do spirit is infectious. Can’t wait to see your dream home completed.
Aww that’s the bloody best comment! Thank you so much I’m so glad you are enjoying the videos and get to come on the journey with me from the beginning! 🙏
100% it is! 🤙
i have not watch television in years because i hate all the Ads as well...but i love you tube because of content creators such as yourself...great job you are doing there...
They are honestly the worst hey! I can feel my brain trying to be manipulated with them 😂 thank you so much I really appreciate it and I’m glad you are enjoying the videos!
Leaving aside your hard work ethic, I love that your dogs are never far from you! Just to be on the safe side, when you go in your container chock the door open in case it swings shut & traps you in 🙁 I’m impressed keep it going, it will have been so worth the hard graft when completed.
Thank you so much! And I just heard a horror story about that so thank you I definitely will! 🙏🙏
It's incredible that some people are so curious that they forget to think about your safety. hope unauthorized people stay away and respect your privacy. I've been looking forward to the new video all week and I really enjoyed myself once again, thank you for sharing this exciting journey in your life. you are really tough
Yeah I’m a bit shocked by it actually and so many as well, thank you so much for the kind words I’m so glad you liked the video , I can’t wait to start with the tree and clearing for firewood next week and hopefully you can join me again ☺️🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas i bee there :D
"I'm a very satisfied customer of my own work." 😂🤙🏾🤘🏽🙌🏽 you're doing great 👍🏼thanks for sharing
😂😂😂 always , thank you 🙌
Something doesn’t add up…….
Carmen Electra 2.0 that’s not a entitled princess with a resilient work ethic and…….achieving more around the house than most husbands do whilst telling their mates at the pub they have been super busy at home.
So inspirational and a reality check for myself. Really enjoying this build and looking forward to the progress and you honing your crafts along the way.
😂😂 I had to read that message a couple of times! Thank you so much that’s the greatest thing I’ve read tonight and I really appreciate it, I honestly enjoy the hard work so much and learning all these new skills along the way 💪🙏
I remember the days when every comment was about camera work. Your project is a worthy one.
Wow thank you for being here for the journey I really appreciate it ☺️🙏
Once the water fills up and the plants grow, that will be an oasis for wildlife
That’s what I’m hoping for ☺️🙏 it would be amazing!
I watched all of it without fast forwarding it. I love your drive and motivation. One job at a time one step at a time. Can’t wait for the Reno’s inside the containers. This is awesome!!! With no commercials either 😂
Aww thank you so very much I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I put so much time into them 🙏 I can’t wait for the next steps either
No need to worry about a shorter Jetty, just use some 44gal drums to make a floating end portion of the jetty. The floating part will always be conveniently next to the water no matter how high one low the water is
Yeah that’s what I wanted to do in the other dam! I’ve got some still too that will look so nice I recon thank you 🙏
In most cases when I do a temporary fix /job that works it tends to become permanent and no longer temporary. Nice job on the gate.
😂😂 yep same here by the looks of it 🙌🙌
I must say I have to appreciate your mental and physical drive to do this on your own, coming from a man who was in construction for nearly 40 years building houses from the footer. And when people don't respect your privacy because of their curiosity they need to understand what trespassing means and what it entails.. great job keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to seeing what the carpentry work looks like inside your container boxes and new home
Thank you so very much for such a big compliment I really appreciate it, it’s been a massive challenge but I’ve enjoyed every second
I really really like what you are doing, with a cheery smile too, perserve good lass its brilliant what you are doing.
I'd really like to see every part of this cos its wonderful & I reckon you are going to win an award especially as I did notice how good you are at framing your shots.
Take your time, rush nothing & keep smiling cos you are definitely onto something good.
Thank you so much for this amazing comment it’s made my morning, I’ve been putting everything I got into this so I’m really glad you are enjoying the journey as much as I am ☺️

Can't say you're not a hard worker, nice job
Thank you I appreciate it! I honestly really enjoy the hard work 🙌
Every person in the world should have a friend like you!
Awww thank you so much! (I’ve got the song “you’ve got a friend in me” playing in my head now😂)
Wow your surper woman and you make me want to help you❤
You are the coolest cat out there. Go you. Inspirational spunky and not afraid to get in and have a go. Love it all. And ya pup.
Thank you so very much
Been working in construction for 10+ years and I’m soo impressed by your knowledge and your work ethic . Your attitude and the way you approach these tasks with soo much confidence….. you can literally do anything… strongest woman I know 🙊🙊👌🏻👌🏻your a tank
I love watching this channel 👌🏻
Thank you so very much! I am extremely determined 😂🙏
The clay is a beast to dig through but it’s great for the retention of water in the pond. I appreciate your hopes and dreams to create a wonderful homestead. I love your content, very inspiring!
Yeah I’ve had enough of digging in clay for a lifetime I think and thank you so much I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos 🙏
Mate your enthusiasm and positivity is so admirable, really feeling motivated to get more done myself again.
Uninvited visitors is just plain rude. (Unless they’re doggos 😁) your gates are very cool hopefully you can reuse them in your secret garden.
Also that Jackhammer has to weigh more than you do so just blown away how much you get done
Love Your Work 👍🏻
Thank you so much, it’s the most rewarding feeling making things yourself hey, yeah I know I’m a little shocked by it!
Hahah the jack hammer is definitely a heavy one for me but I’m gaining more muscle by the day 😂☺️ thank you 🙏
Keep up the great work. We admire your enthusiasm and energy. Thanks Andrew & Sharryn
Wow thank you guys so much for the support I really appreciate it and I definitely will ☺️🙏
You need to put up no trespassing signs on your property to stop these people turning up at your place uninvited or put gates across your driveway
Thank you! Yep that’s what the gate was for ☺️🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas lol
Also put a chain and lock on the gates
Well done Jasmine, get some WD-40 for your hinges and pivoting points of your containers and free them up.
Thank you so much will do!
Love watching the build series, my wife and I enjoy watching these together. Secretly I think she wishes I was as handy as you are. Keep up the great videos!
😂😂 I love this so much! Thank you guys I really appreciate the support and I’m so glad you are both enjoying the videos 🙏
Love your channel- your one amazing woman ❤So hard working and absolutely stunning!
Thank you so much ☺️🙏
you, really are so incredibly beautiful. not only your appearance but everything about your nature. love your work.
Thank you I appreciate it ☺️
your gate will sag over time. if you had made the cross member start at the top by the beam and end at the bottom near the connector it will last longer. when it starts at the bottom it helps keep its shape but the support isnt there for the bottom over time. when you make a gate that is not temporary make sure you put the support at the top connecting to the beam.
Will do 🙏
Gotta make sure they have the right gear on for the site. Like safety Uggs and pajamas! 😬
Yeah dam I’ll get them next time 😂🙏
You look so good being on your own.
I wish you all the best ❤❤ im in bris. Love to see a woman chasing her dreams.
Thank you so much 🥰🙏
Love your dogs, they're awesome, blown away by what your doing, do inspirational 👏 ❤
Great video loving it !! Please be careful with power tools near water…good you had rubber boots on 👍. I really want to see you complete your dream…you’re a true Aussie girl.
Thank you so much I appreciate it! Yeah I was trying my hardest 🙏
Battery powered tools unlikely to be shock hazard but if 240v powered by generator or inverter on car battery then yes can be unsafe.
Get some ducks and chickens or the bugs gonna go crazy at the pond. Clever cookie, good luck. Looking forward to seeing your journey.
The ducks have come naturally thank you ☺️🙏
With a shorter jetty you could add on a floating section and join them together 🏴🏴🏴
Good idea!
G'day Jasmine. I've been following for a while now and I must say I'm very impressed { I know that's not an issue]. Your a clever little sheila aren't you. When I watch your video there is so much electricity about you. What an absolute positive attitude you have. Its a wonderful thing to find a young lady with the skill set that you have. I find with you that nothing is a bother. Good on ya girl. Your a bloody winner.
Hello thanks so much for your support I really appreciate it, I’ve enjoyed learning all the new skills so much so far 🙏
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas G'day Jasmine. I've already put a thing on your new vid. I just want to mention about your saw. Please get someone to check it over and to show you how to service it and do things right and I promise you, you will not have the drama's that you are now also learn the correct technique to drop a tree. I'd love to help you but I'm down in Vic and I would set you in the right direction. I'm not a nutter/perve or anything. I'm 70 yrs old with grandkids but for christs sake be careful.
Everybody needs a break!! No worries here mate. Take what time you need and I for one will be here for you when you return. ❤❤🎉🎉
Thank you so much that’s so nice to know I appreciate it ❤️🙏
You're unreal Jas!!!! I absolutely love watching you. You're amazing!!!
Thank you so much ☺️ 🙏 it’s been such a fun journey so far
When opening and closing containers, always operate both handles together in unison. You can also get a couple of metre long steel pipes to slide over the two handles to give you increased leverage.
You’re pretty awesome Jasmine. I’m enjoying your videos and I’m learning from them too.
Thank you so much ☺️
The dogs must be living their best life there. Best place for dogs.
They really are 😍
I would put signs up saying NO TRESSPASSING that would bug the hell out of me remember stranger danger.cool vid
Thank you so much! My gate is filled with signs now 😂🙏
The sound of the crows and kurrawongs made me homesick. You are a no-nonsence kinda girl, keep up the good work 😁👍🇺🇸🇦🇺
Do beautiful listening to them hey! I love the kookaburras and black cockatoos! 😍 thank you so much 🙏

Aww thank you so very much and big hello to you and Bailey ☺️❤️
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas thank you so much we hope you have an awesome day 😊♥️
the first thing I learned watching this is like 500 things al togheter. this is an entire school hahaha. I learned that you don't need any type of comfort or high end instalations or tools to achieve solid work and speed doesn't matter, you see to alway take your time to do things, it seems slow, then I think... yeah... slow and stesady is.... fast. Thank you for sharing your efforts.
Aw thank you so much I’m so glad it was of value to you and you enjoyed it, only up from here ☺️🙏
Two tips one of which I'm sure that you already do, and that is lock your containers that you are using to store your equipment. With so many people driving onto your property you never can tell what they are looking for. The second tip is to get some white paint, write private property on your gate, and maybe even add no entry. Just for your own peace of mind. You are doing a great job all round keep up the good work.
They are two great tips! I’ll get onto that thank you so much 🙏
Its hard to keep people out. I live on a major highway leading to wine country, we get heavy traffic in the summer from people from Toronto. I get people all the time pull in and take pics of themselves in front of my new ridding arena. Gates and signs will help. Still working on my pond lol
Oh what!! I can’t believe that! So it happens everywhere then! Haha, thank you I definitely need a sign! Yeah the pond is a bloody big job! Hope it’s going well!
I just love me a strong independent woman, doing the construction work herself 💪🏼
Gotta get it done 💪☺️ thank you so much 🙏
Thanks soo much for the general plan ideas for your home. Looking forwards to seeing your vision come to life. Even if you make changes as you go it will be soo good. Glad you got a gate in. It's nice to feel a little more safe with a gate.
That’s my absolute pleasure I was so worried I carried on for too long haha but the full video was 15 minutes of rambling 😂 I can’t wait to see the vision come to life and yes definitely pleasured with my gate 🙏
You really are an amazing woman and your energy/zest for life is infectious. I know you will definitely achieve your dreams.
Wow thank you so much that’s such a lovely thing to say 🙏
I'm so excited for you about the dam!. So many good memories siting by a dam in the SW of Perth having beers catching Marron nice little fire pit good times.
Omg yes you’ve just painted the perfect picture I can’t wait for that 😍🙏

Awesome job. Your energy and enthusiasm is infectious.....Keep it up Gal. Also cant wait to see it.
Thank you so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos ☺️🙏
Great to see what you are doing , I worked with shipping containers for thirty years if you want to make it easy peasy to open the doors just cut yourself a length of scaffold pole place the pole over the handle then use the pole as a lever you will thank me for ever lol it makes them a breeze to open and close the longer the pike the easier it is ,have s new subscriber from UK good luck with your project
Omg yes I literally found this out two days ago changed my life!! Thank you so much for the advice 🙏🙌
Use your shipping container lach handle to open up the doors easier.
You have to turn the Lach around more it then pushes the doors open for you. 👍
That’s gonna be awesome dream home, I just subscribed Wednesday, July 3, 2024. I like this stuff gives me different. Great ideas. Appreciate you sharing.👍👍😎
Thank you so much for your kind words and I can’t wait to share the rest of the journey with you ☺️
The angle pieces on the gate are backward of how they should be. Should be top from the post to the bottom of where they connect. That is how it supports the weight.
Thank you! 🙏
You are so clever, love watching your world come to life ❤❤
Thank you so much it’s been so rewarding every step of the way ☺️
wow girl you are a powerhouse!!!
i’m so inspired , so happy for you, and so envious, as you’re living my dream. ❤

The gate looks fantastic and your pond is going to be fantastic when it fills up. God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
Thank you so very much! I’m loving my gate and wow you should see how much the water has risen in the pond now 😍🙏
You are amazing! You just keep getting it done.
Thank you for sharing your journey!
I’m honestly loving it at the moment, see how I feel in a few months 😂 as long as I keep it new and exciting I think I could entertain myself forever doing all this 😂 thank you!
Yeah, I ain’t had a TV in eight years and I don’t miss it👍👍😎

Should have this all finished in a couple of weeks! Really enjoying this build.
Thank you so much ☺️
Really starting to come together now, well done looking forward to seeing what’s next 😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much and it really is it’s very exciting !
You could try the old 'stick gate'. 3 strands of barbed wire attached to the post on one side and a star picket on the other. Put a circle of wire on the bottom and the top of the other post. The star picket sits inside the bottom ring and then you tension the 'gate' by putting the top ring over the top of the star picket. Add a couple of droppers or 'sticks' in the centre to hold it together
That’s an interesting gate I’ve never heard of that! Thank you so much for sharing !
Love the bush noise & the Magpies, also love those weird looking tree ferns, must be aussie natives (don't have them in nz). Your pooches think you are crazy, but are with you & looking out for you whatever the hell it is you are doing ... haha
They are called xanthorrhoea only native to Aus, amazing plants
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jas Hey ... thanks for reply. Been checking availability in nz, not good. They take 20 years or more to grow to the size you have & are bloody expensive, like 200 to $500 for 1 with small trunk, they do seed ... mayb another goldmine for u haha ... b gd/stay safe
When I hear the birds all I can think of is the movies of Mad Max. Love your videos! You are doing great!
Great movie! Thank you so much ☺️
Cool well done, yu have a lovely spot. In 10 years time when yor planting and building efforts are mature, yu will have a very nice little slice of paradise. Good luck.
Yes I can’t wait 😍
@@Building.a.Dream-Barefoot_Jasi will be very interested to see yor enginuity and probpem solving, so i will be along for the ride. I have my own 70 acre bush block, that im wanting to put a shed on and drop out of the rat race.
String up a tarp down at the pond. It'll give you a dry workspace without having to pack up everything and waste time and energy hauling everything back up to the containers. Everywhere that you put a screw into the gate railings, you need at least two. Great job, looking for the next video.
Great idea! Thank you so much for the advice! 🙏
Great stuff,, the clay is crazy cool i have never seen so many colors well digging a hole.
Thank you! And yeah I’m so excited to try make something with the clay ☺️

Love it a satisfied customer of your own work!
Thank you so much I’ll have a look now ☺️🙏
Looking forward to following this journey. Good Luck!!
Thank you so much so excited to share it with you 🙏
What an awesome video mate , the gates were a brilliant idea and you do need privacy because technically by law if your property has no gate then they can say they made a mistake and thought it was a track but with gates they would have to actually open them or climb over the fence and that's trespassing ... that jetty will look great a brilliant idea , can't wait to see the work on the containers , we'll done, looks better and better each video🙏
Thank you so much! Yeah I’m so happy I got the gates up and the jetty posts being in is so exciting too 🙌
Awesome job and commitment i am going to be building one of these soon. So much awesome info and you not hide mistakes so we can learn from them too ..nice gates .❤

this is so cool we have a lady in town in WA (330 Pop) who is building a Container house its really interesting and cool

Quick tip with the storage containers, apply some oil at the top and bottom of the latch. This will make it super easy to open the door.

I do tree felling and wood cutting on my friends farm in winter couple of chainsaws a ute and a high sided trailer and we go around the property cutting up Mainly the trees pushed over by the wind but also some that are dead standing the standing ones I just cut a "V" in the base as low as I can go safely and on the side you want it to fall naturally sometimes the angle of the tree will dictate that cut the tree into manageable lengths in the trailer then up to the hydraulic wood splitter where we split them into fireplace sized chunks we usually leave these next to the splitter for a year or two which is at the top of the mountain on a huge rock (his farm is located on basically a rocky mountain) to dry out a bit
Oh awesome! Thank you!
you should clear some of the trees around your living area, given the fire risk in the Australian outback. either that or get a really good water pump to put out fires using the water in your reservoir.
I got this place for the trees they aren’t going anywhere 🙌
Next video, crocodile moat and drawbridge!😂👍🏻👍🏻
😂😂😂 yesss actually !
For 20 years we raised Shetland Sheep for boutique knitters wool. We would always make sure the rams were paddocked down by the gate. There's nothing like a big set of horns and a bad attitude when it comes to discouraging unwanted visitors.
(my avatar is a pic of our last ram**.... those serrated horns are REAL, and the extra traction he got when hitting a knee was like adding a box-grater to a sledgehammer.... complete overkill)
**RIP Race (named for the Johnny Quest cartoon character. we also had Bandit, Hadji... we had some silly themes for naming our 4-legged furry kids.) He actually damaged other rams' horns with those serrations... left big, scooped gouges in horn, and could rip a thigh if he got you just right. Loved/hated that brute.
You could extend the jetty to your original idea with some clever bracing or like a cantilever. Im sure you will work out out. 19:32 Great work on your build so far too.
That’s a great idea thank you so much !
Totally admirable ... thanks for sharing.
It’s my pleasure!
Little tip, find a hollow pipe that fits over handle of shipping containers, about 2 feet and you find it much easier to open door.
