  • Here we have a look at the 2006-2007 Orion VII 2nd Generation+ Hybrid Units that operate at MTA New York City Bus and the MTA Bus Company. The video focuses on the units running on local routes and subway shuttle services in between 2013 and 2017. I hope you enjoyed it.
The 2006-2007 Orion VII 2nd Generation+ Hybrid Units are numbered #3500-3783 for MTA Bus, and the NYCTA Units are numbered #6690-6905. The units are equipped with a Cummins EPA 07 ISB Engine with a BAE Systems HybriDrive Propulsion System. These were the first new buses purchased for the MTA Bus Company after the MTA took over the private lines under the Department of Transportation during the mid 2000's. The arrival of the hybrids at MTA Bus retired various older buses that were both past retirement age and those that did not meet ADA Guidelines. For the NYCTA units, they were purchased to retire GMC & TMC RTS units (some were shipped to the newly established MTA Bus for a few years).
In 2013, MTA Bus unit #3563 was converted into a diesel unit. The bus is equipped with a Cummins EPA 07 ISL Engine with a Allison World B400R WTEC III transmission. This was done when a proposed diesel conversion of the MTA Bus hybrid units was being considered in order to extend the use of the hybrid units, however the plan was scrapped.
The video covers the buses running on Manhattanville, Michael J. Quill, Tuskegee Airmen, Mother Clara Hale, East New York, Baisley Park, LaGuardia, JFK, Far Rockaway, and Casey Stengel routes.
Note that while Queens Village and Grand Avenue now have some of these units, I do not have clips of them in this video.
Photos and Videos were taken between 2013 and 2017.

Well, MaBSTOA has retired most of them already, as well as Queens Village. MTA Bus Company is next.
Queens Village's and MTA Bus Company's units are expected to be all gone by sometime next year.
