ok i have many questions to ask: 1. why are argentina losing 4-0 to nigeria 2. why have the referees given 7 minutes of stoppage time 3. HOW IS THAT A PENALTY?????
1. This was a friendly game only and not so important or crucial, that took place on June 1st 2011, and Nigeria indeed won by 4-1. It was only a friendly. Interestingly, the teams had met one year before this game, in the 2010 world cup in South Africa as they were in the same group, and Argentina had won that match 1-0 (2010 WC). Similarly they met again in the 2014 world cup in Brazil as they were in the same group again, and Argentina won that one with 3-2. 2. I don't know why the referee added 7-8 minutes of stoppage time. Maybe due to the four goal celebrations?! Normally a few minutes stoppage time is added, say three-four minutes, but I guess in this case the Nigerians took a few minutes extra for their goal celebrations, meaning the referee added a few minutes extra, which ended in an 8-minute stoppage time. 3. The final goal was given because of a "penalty" which indeed wasn't. It was no hand ball and it was no penalty. That was poor decision by the referee. Definitely no penalty, and the commentators were as surprised as most others, as well as most others commenting here. The title says it all; Worst penalty decision ever.

Not true, this was the final match between Nigeria under20 and Argentina under20 in Holland in year 2005 and the ref gave 2 penalty to Argentina against Nigeria and the final scores was Argentina 2 Nigeria 🇳🇬 1
People in the comments talking like Argentina is way more better than Nigeria at football ....its never an easy match when playing with Nigeria. Africa being underated as usual 😂
I think it was penalty because of the guy who blocked the shot, not the second nigerian guy. I don't know if it was in the arm, because the replay didn't show. The referee was about to whistle when the second guy didn't even touch the ball.
Ok so, for anyone that wants more information on this match: 1- This match was called by the Nigerian press (some) as 'The match of the century'. BUT, Nigerian Federation thought they would be playing against Argentina's A side, which is clearly not the case. Argentina took a VERY alternative squad, like the subs for the subs for the subs for the subs. 2- Due to this, and after the match, the Nigerian football federation complained to the Argentina federation, and they agreed to play another match, this time both teams featuring their A squads. This future match was won by Argentina 3-1. 3- The penalty and added time are no weird decision. They are (and I think it was confirmed years ago) cases of corruption and match fixing. I think it had to do with the fact that some people would lose a lot of money if Argentina ended up with 0 on their scoreboard.
Nigeria (4): Vicent Enyeama; Chibuzor Okonkwo, Efe Ambrose, Joseph Yobo y Taiwo Taye; Kalu Uche, Mikel Obi, Joel Obi y Nsofor Obinna; Víctor Anichebe e Ikechukwu Uche. DT: Samson Siasia. Twas obvious he had an agenda against them anyways. 8 minutes of stoppage time and the dumb penalty, he would've pulled out a card if they protested. This ref was something else🤣
Actually, I think the referee had plenty of reason to give a PK there. He's calling a handball on the first Nigerian defender the ball strikes, but doesn't blow the whistle until after the second defender has played it (he puts the whistle in his mouth before the ball reaches the second defender). You can see the ball flicking up and back after striking the first defender's foot, and the spin is driving it towards the goal, but then it suddenly changes trajectory right around the defender's hand. On slow mo, it is hard because of the bad quality, you can see the defender's hand flick forward right as the ball changes trajectory. The referee was right there with a much better view, so I believe that it could well of been a handball. Although it might have also struck the defender's stomach.
this goal was for the bet companies who payed for a goal in injury time that brings them huge profit, in the '87 minute score was 4-0 nigerians were passing the ball playing cat and mouse with argentinians and the odds for no 5th goal were 1.90 (normally at that time in a friendly is 1.10-1.15)! that is huge and tempting for any gambler. ref gave 5min injury but nigerians were still passing the ball ref waited and waited until finally arg players managed to kick a ball in the box for penalty
