Fallout 4’s Pickman is named for the titular artist from HP Lovecraft’s “Pickman’s Model.” In the short story, Richard Upton Pickman is a Boston resident known for his impressive but horrifying paintings. He doesn’t turn out to be a serial killer though, just a talented painter with some personal (but quite literal) demons to deal with.

Sam Mraovich (who wrote and directed Ben & Arthur) also made a movie called "Steves Hollywood Story". In it a woman had a genetic/hereditary condition and needed surgery. Mraovich didn't QUITE know how to use the terms genetic and hereditary, and ended up describing her condition as "heretic". I'm not saying Mraovich contributed to Oblivions writing, but it wouldn't surprise me. 😁

@@pauldiamond1583 Are you sure? The Dunmer are rather blase about what we might consider serious debauchery and perversion. It happens when you form a society in a place constantly trying to kill you and begin things by worshipping Daedra.
They have a lot of necromancers, but that's because they have magical talent and the harshness of Morrowind breeds a desire for power. But the culture is actually very testy about necromancy. Their religions use ancestral remains to guard family worship shrines, and had used them to reinforce the Ghostfence. So they regard necromancy as a defilement, theft and perversion of sacred things. Plus, the game makes a big deal of what a crackdown Hannibal Traven is making on necromancers.
Yet miss Hlaalu, who has grown up in that culture and knows the major current events here, is comfortable asking _a near-stranger_ what her penalty would be for practicing necromancy... and is relieved but not shocked it's a reasonable _fine?_
(The implication being that in Morrowind they *also* just rap your knuckles.)

Yeah-- we all kill a dozen raiders on a daily basis just to cross Concord and risk getting shot, stabbed, clubbed, or set on fire... rather than just *go around* the suckers who we know will be there after the first few times, and who pose no real threat anyway after a time! Most of the time, they're just a traffic nuisance or looting obstacle to us; at least with Pickman it's always something he really cares about.
And if you're like me, you don't even leave the bodies with the pitiful clothing they wear. You scoop it *all* up to trade a few bits, save ammo and medical supplies, and dismantle the rest at a settlement.

To make the Sanitarium entry even worse is that it is the first area you explore outside the main hub area, the proper "first level" of the game. And every single of the interactions with the children is jarring.
But I have a few more disturbing interactions for you:
In Fate/Extra for the PSP (with a remake coming soon), you can face Lil' Ronnie, a lady in clown make-up that is a parody of a certain fast food mascot. Her laugh is already unnerving enough, the fact she is paired with the historical figure that inspired Dracula is also unsettling, but then comes the disturbing revelations that we are talking about a cannibal clown that "devours everything she loves". There is a reason why she wasn't mentioned in the anime sequel.
Another two disturbing interactions can also be player characters in the most unassuming game: The Sims 2. It is a well-known part of the lore that Olive Specter from Strangetown might have had a fling with the Grim Reaper and her house's graveyard has a disturbing number of former husbands/love interests. Also in Strangetown, Olive's son with the Grim Reaper, Nervous Subject, was taken away from his home and taken in by Loki and Circe Beaker to be their...uh... test subject.

13:56 About Issues with understanding: You found a way to find your way to the Battle Frontier in Pokémon Ruby?
    I doubt that.
-> The Battle Frontier is an Emerald Exclusive. And was the source of many unhappy customers when Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire didn't include it.
Also you take "Sludge Eater's" words way too serious.
    Why?
All NPCs in the Battle Frontier have an odd shared trait. Their Dialogue is built randomly with the very limited phrase-based dialogue options the game gives the player.

If you read a diary from one of Chauncey's parents found in the game, it states that the baby was born a ghost, unlike his two older brothers. Meaning that the baby didn't die and become a ghost, he always was one. But his twin older brothers, did die. So if anything, their story is actually the worse one

Two that come to mind for me are in Genshin Impact(not everyone's cup of tea. I know, I'm sorry.). The one Mondstat NPC that wants to make a boat for Flora seemed to be in love with her while he was an adult and she was a child. The inital translation assumed that Flora was going to be an adult woman until she was changed into a child NPC but the line wasn't adjusted for this until later. The other is a really weird encounter with a very mentally unstable Kairagi warrior near the Snake God's remains in Inazuma. That was just all sorts of weird.

@@henrysokol3466 I'm not kidding, check in construction set if you don't believe me.
They definitely used standard template for some characters. I know that basic Imperial and Bretons - the first face shown in character creation is the basic Facegen one (you can tell, Dark Souls 1 uses exactly the same default face) - and this is assymetrical by default. Other basic faces seem to derrive from this template.
As for NPC - it seems that there are plenty of them that were hand tweaked a lot - not talking about Emperor or Martin, who are based on actors, but plenty of others are hand made - so devs probably played around with some characters and Falanu is one such example.

    • @henrysokol3466

@@hideshisface1886 Weird.... why would they build in asymmetry? It happens in real life, but it's not like they were being that anal-retentive about realism! Symmetry would make things simpler to code and manipulate, and players wouldn't really notice the difference against all the other NPC issues.

    • @hideshisface1886
      @hideshisface1886 Год назад

@@henrysokol3466 Asymmetry is built into facegen used in Oblivion by default, it is not Bethesda's invention, it is a third party program, technically. When you look at it - even the very default models have asymmetry built in.
Oblivon was quite revolutionary at the time with this particular feature - sure, it didn't age quite well, but it was a game-changer in character creation in games - even if Oblivion still botched it as fuck - the implementation was glitchy as hell.
BUT, there was another problem - player, beyond construction set, had no ability to fiddle with symmetry settings. BUT "random" button DID.
This means, in Oblivion, without fiddling around with construction set or mods, there is no way to give your character a symmetrical face, unless you hit like 1-in-a-billion combination with random.

The fact that all the animals were voiced by the ghostly woman was a genius move. Who would have ever thought that a dying, blood soaked channel catfish would have the voice of a beautiful young girl? I’m glad my comment found another fan. I wish more people could have experienced it.

1 and 2 were a bit weak- minor NPCs (nameles in one case) whose entry is based on a single random throwaway line. #1's line could even be considered black comedy. Not much at all compared to the #3 pick.

The baby ghost is by far the most horrifying in my opinion, given the fact of the game's somewhat child friendly presentation. The second one would be that one of the world of possessed children.

All the NPCs in that are disturbing, that’s part of what makes it such a boring game. When you start off at a 10 on the edgelord meter you don’t leave yourself anything to build towards, so after like an hour the game just turns into a competent God of War clone with a generic “save the princess” plot.

Is a boss fight an npc? I would put them in different characters

Any character the player can’t control is by definition an NPC, so technically yes, boss characters (and by extension all enemies) are NPCs.

why are you disturbed by pickman, I run around and kill raiders too and collect their bones to craft into oil at the chemical workbench.
one could say I get some enjoyment from it. its a completely voluntary activity as I could just not play fallout 4. I'm not sure how you can define pickman as disturbing when you do the same thing. or much worse.
