Hang on! I do nightclub security and I would have done exactly the same but I would have handled it differently. I would have said "I can only release the vehicle to the person who gave me the ticket and that is company policy unless you can give me proof that the vehicle is yours." Given that he smelled of alcohol means he has a legal obligation NOT to release the vehicle to that man. In the UK it is ILLEGAL to release a vehicle to someone who smells of alcohol.
That right there is the correct way to handle the situation. And actually it’s illegal here too in the States, but unfortunately not everyone follows the rules.
