I started playing this song (and others) for my little girl (4 years old) during bath time. For a while, this was one of her favorites. This past summer, we went to a small local air show/vintage plane showing. Many of the planes were WWII vintage. As we were walking past one, she started singing the chorus to this song, "The Airplane Song" as she calls it. My wife was scowling at me, but several guys in the crowd, including at least one cop, turned to look and give smiles and nods of approval. I was so proud. :)

@@jock25259 Same goes. I did multiple Leuchars and Farnborough air shows and Maiden at Twickenham Stadium and Aberdeen with my son. The last Maiden concert we went to was on the Legacy of the Beast Tour last year and was his gift to me. Nice.

Yep 47 here. Went to the Powerslave tour and have been going ever since. Maiden is a huge part of the soundtrack of my life no doubt. As a drummer I always wanted to play along side the likes of Harris or John Paul Jones.
DPhoto Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy and Dio were and still are my go-tos.

Apart from how awesome the song is, I have great respect for Iron Maiden's respect for history. Speaking as a dumb yank, a song like this has me contemplating the sincere resolve of the English people. For nearly a year they were the only major power to stand up against the axis powers while we in the states were still contemplating whether to get involved at all. Not just the tireless pilots he's singing about, going out again and again on seemingly endless sorties against the Luftwaffe, but the sheer stoic heroism of the citizens to face daily bombings and still carry on. From the fall of France and before to the end of the Battle for Britain and beyond, It is a testament to the strength of a people in the face of insurmountable odds.

@@MrHanswurscht666 Yeah he has flown them the past few tours. They started on a 737 and moved up to a 747 for the Book Of Souls and made the Flight 666 DVD. Which is a very cool tour documentary.
SS Sandman It was a 757 then a 747, but yeah. The fact that he could work a long flight THEN play a full show is pretty badass because the actual flying is only part of being a 747 captain.

The film is actually footage from the "Battle of Britain". Europe had fallen, the Americans were not yet in World War 2 and Britain stood alone against the Nazis. The pilots in the " Battle of Britain" were outnumbered 3 to 1, yet they prevailed.
Bruce Dickinson has a pilot's licence and used it to fly the band to gigs in his customized 747.

To me, Maiden's signature is their rhythm, especially Steve Harris on the bass! Bruce is definitely a unique singer too no one sounds like him.

Golgothian Steve is a FUCKING BEAST on bass. Same with Nikko. Shut all of them. That what makes them so awesome. So tight and have never sold out. Always true to metal, themselves and their fans.
Golgothian I first started playing bass in a metal band in the mid 80’s after hearing Revelations but Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Flight of Icarus also had a big influence on me.
With you on this one.....THAT BASS IS KILLER. This one of those bands that no one is a virtuoso per se, but together...out of this world.
Dude, that is a perfect description of Bruce Dickinson's effect - Signature. I hope you consider reacting to "Run to the Hills". Not only is it from the album when he first joined the band (same album as Hallowed Be Thy Name), but this song is his John Hancock of Signatures. People may dog this song for various reasons but likely because they've heard it a zillion times. Truth be told, it's one of the songs that helped launch the band to super stardom. Every band member gets their time to shine in this song, there's a great build up after the solo midway, and Bruce's sign off at the end is even better than the one in Aces High. When you ever see a Maiden show you will never be the same again
Bruce treats his voice like an instrument. He didn't drink while on tour and didn't do the "drugs and rock and roll" life. He's a commercial pilot and flies Iron Maiden's commercial tour jet during their world tours. The whole band stayed pretty clean and drama free for the most part during their long career.

Just finished his audio book of his autobiography. Great book. Have been jamming to Maiden since 81, and don't plan on stopping. My Favorite Metal Band Period.
"Scream For Me Brazil" was my introduction to Bruce's solo stuff and it's still in my top 5 best live albums of that genre. I keep telling reviewers to check it out but so far nobody's done it which is a shame because some of those tracks are on the same level (if not better) than peak Maiden.

I’ve always appreciated Iron Maiden’s efforts to have historical context to their songs, they’ve done a masterful job of it. What is great about this song is to remember the Royal Air Force pilots and the tremendous odds against them during the Battle of Britain in 1940 and to think of what they were able to accomplish when most of them were 19.and 20 or so years old, that is a very big lesson to be learned by today’s youth. Excellent job Preston, you have a passion for good music that is refreshing to watch.

Where Eagles dare is from Piece of Mind which is, together with Powerslave, the best album of Iron Maiden IMO then followed by Seventh son of a Seventh son and Number of the Beast. Yes I'm old school, after the 90's I'm not really impressed by their albums except for Brave New World which is excellent.

*Powerslave* was Iron Maiden's peak. They still did a lot of great stuff after this, but *this* is them firing on all cylinders and doing it perfectly.
Iron Maiden is solid foundation metal. Vocals, riffs, bass...bass...bass,solos, Bruce is hall of fame. Melodic, Rhythmic metal with a prominent bass groove!

Iron Maiden are an unbelievable band. My favorite. What you see here is just a glimpse of what Iron Maiden is. Its one of the few bands that need to be experienced live. Engaging and powerful and cheerful
"live to fly, fly to live"....and Bruce Dickinson years later is an accomplished pilot capable of flying the band from site to site on tour in a 747. Amazing.
I had the most of the same reactions when I first heard this back in 1985. This album is my favorite Maiden album by far. This band got me into heavy metal. I may not be a huge fan of what they are doing nowadays, but this band along with Rush and Metallica will always have a special place in my heart.

Man... I saw Powerslave in Lakeland, Florida... Churchill speaks as the crowd screams... the music starts and it is LOUD... the slow snare to indicate... GET READY... and.... the band appears almost out of nowhere. From there, Iron Maiden guides you on a journey you simply cant take in in one concert. You CANT. THEY ARE THAT GOOD.

Bruce just turned 60 last year and he still has that energy in their shows to this day. I'm going to see them in September when they play in Las Vegas. Will be my 12th time seeing them. They are a "Don't miss" live show. By the way, dig your channel. I think it's cool when you "bring that back" to relisten to a part. I can tell you feel the music. ✌

Doesn't take away from the songs quality. Aces High is a beast of a song. They still played this on last years tour.....34 years after it was released. Bruce was still owning it. my favorite band also..... i have seen them 3 times...i wish to see them many more times. met Nico shook his hand the concert that happened at was the day before my 30th.... i am the same age as Bruce.....his voice style is my fav... deep purple was my fav until they came onto the scene in the 1980's . we (a friend and I) were going to get back stage the next day but one of the roadies made an obscene proposal to here and she was such a hot.head that she was going to hitchhike 1000 miles back home and I would not allow that Rolf 4 foot 10 inch girl woman to go alone so I went with her forfeited my front row seats and my Bethpage opportunity to protect my friend on my birthday 30th birthday I'll never forget that what a bummer!
