We had a single Red-Capped Parrot flying around the district here (far North-East Queensland) some years back - a few other exotic species also. The unusual call caught my attention initially and a quick look through my bird books brought forth the exclamation that he must really have packed a good lunchbox to make it here! That was at the time when the Messiahs in the various Green Departments were cracking down on Licences etc. - so the cages were just opened and the birds turned out. Our model flying group often have raptors and others turn up to share what they think must be good thermals by those odd birds cruising around. And a belligerent Butcherbird who gets distinctly territorial come breeding season.
I remember a Crimson Rosella turned up near the beach here in WA - was interesting to. Yes, the Red Caps have a very distinct call, I always hear them before even seeing them.
Hello Shelley. Your photos are amazing! I enjoyed watching your video. I just started birdwatching last month and I'm enjoying it. Hopefully, I can be a good bird spotter like you. Thanks for the tips you share.
Hello Catherine, Thank you for the lovely compliment about my work! Glad you enjoyed the video. That is awesome you have started watching the birds, they are fascinating. I tend to respond to movement and sound with spotting the birds. Once you know the calls, you know what bird is around before even see it. Have a great day/evening. Warm Regards Shelley :)
@@shelleypearson yeah I definitely will be! Actually planning a big trip internationally this year and getting some new gear, so I will have plenty to film!

Great work Shelley, patience is the key (and sometimes a bit of luck and right time right place). You've got some great shots there !!! 🤠😎
Useful tips on field craft, something I'm a little short on 😀 Interesting to see a location through a Pro's eyes. Thankyou!
Thank you Geoff, I think you underestimate your work, and I love your images of the Osprey.
