I AM THE MASTERMIND! is a Danganronpa themed zine exploring the concept of characters from the main games as the masterminds of their own killing game! This is an alternative setting and isn't particularly meant to be part of the Danganronpa storyline.
Although the zine features characters from the main Danganronpa games, this video only focuses on the Super Danganronpa 2 cast.

Some great details my friends and I noticed:
- The only two people to actually catch the hammer are Hajime and Junko, the two actual masterminds (Junko for DR1, Izuru for SDR2)
- We can't see the right side of Fuyuhiko's face, likely because if he was the mastermind, he would still have Junko's eye implanted.
-Kazuichi is piloting a Giant Monokuma, which is something he oversaw the construction of during the Tragedy.
-There's blood all over the dinner table in front of Teruteru, because he was a cannibal during his Remnant of Despair days.
-Ibuki is wearing her gas mask from her beta design.
-Sonia is wearing her Remnant of Despair dress.
-The Impostor was left as a gray man, as they have no real identity or appearance.
-Chiaki, the only non-remnant, is on screen for the least amount of time. She's put in-between Nagito and Hajime, whose psyches were implied to have made the majority of Chiaki's AI.
-Chiaki's part is transitioned to through Nagito's eye, where it then shows her being marked as guilty. She's hitting the button to vote for herself as well.
-Nagito is behind a roulette wheel, which also has darts through it. Besides the obvious reference to luck, it's also a parallel to art from the comic, where he's in front of a dart board covered in darts and knives, him standing in the middle. Also, he's wearing gloves (for obvious reasons).
I was crushed when this animation was taken down the first time, and absolutely *elated* when it was brought back up. It's absolutely fantastic, and the detail and hard work put into it is genuinely incredible.
Edit:
Another thing I just noticed upon rewatching:
- The line "Hope and despair" is specifically spoken as soon as Hajime, the Ultimate Hope and Remnant of Despair, is on screen.
- Hajime willingly lets go of the hammer, his hand gently lowering after hesitating. Maybe this represents his choice to be more than just Izuru Kamukura, or maybe it's specifically *because* Izuru put the junko AI into the system, effectively "passing the torch" of mastermind to her.

Something i noticed with Komaeda is that he dressed purely in white since it represents hope (and we all know how he feels about hope).
Another thing is that he covers his left eye due to it representing despair, and only shows his right eye.
A nice and clever detail! :D

I hate to be that guy but white isn't hope. In DR:UDG the final animated bit junko described the all white monokuma as white despair and the all black monokuma as black hope. Its safe to assume that this also applies to monokuma, the white being despair and black hope

Like he thinks of hope as the ultimate good, but is willing to do messed up things for that good. So It's not entirely good

it would be nice to see an alternate version of danganronpa where junko was the protag and everyone else was the mastermind out to get her. it would be a supercool spinoff ngl

I guess if for an anime, Junko might have to use her wits and talent(alongside gathering valuable allies) to defeat the masterminds.
For a videogame, I'm not sure what, but it might involve Junko and her allies finding ways to defeat the masterminds as well.
I imagine something like Ultimate Custom Night if it was a beat-em-up game.

Something that I'd like to point out is during the credits scene (where all the pictures of the masterminds are shown), you can see a pink, jagged link being drawn across Sonia's neck.
I believe this is a reference to the executions that occured in France when the common people cut off the heads of the French royal family.
It's nothing important, but I feel like it's a cool detail.
Ahhhh the French revolution what a wonderful time.
We cutted off many heads and even after everyone who got accused of being an enemy to the République got their head cut off without a trial,so if you hated someone you just had one thing to do,also the one who organised this got his head cut off (ironic isn't it)

I actually like these designs because they look more like Remnants of Despair than they do in the actual anime.
The part where Mikan throws darts at Nagito reminds me of that “Komaeda execution” where Nagito was spinning while darts try to hit him and they miss due to Nagito’s extreme luck.

Something I really loved was how at the end, when all the names were shown, the X’s were related to their ultimates/something they identify with
i love how each character's cross in front of their portraits is a reference to their character somehow:
mahiru is glass shattering like a picture breaking,
hiyoko is hair sticks,
ibuki is her lightning bolt,
akane is bones like hunger/food,
nekomaru is the blood that would come from his head after fighting,
sonia is a line across her neck like a queen being beheaded,
impostor is just a blank, shattered canvas,
fuyuhiko and peko are sword slashes or scars,
teruteru is his fork and knife,
soda is his mechanic tools,
gundham is claw marks,
mikan is the first aid plus,
nagito is chains referencing his time as Servant,
chiaki is pixelated like a video game,
and i'm not 100% sure on what hajime's is referencing but it could be the run-in izuru and nagito had with their guns, or the bullet in his head referencing the lobotomy.
Someone give this person the title of Ultimate Ultimate Animator
The verse "Despite this, the line between Hope and Despair is so faded out" being played as Hajime appears is so genius.

Can we just appreciate how well done the animation is? Like, when i first saw this, i said "That better become a series" because of the way the animation looks and how the characters look. (All of them for real look pretty) This gives me just the right motivation to animate.

Ah, I see. I kinda figured that after I had reread it.
I noticed how the Sonia's picture is the only one with a line on her neck. It reminds me the Marie Antoinette's death (Queen of France before the French Revolution) in the guillotine. Possible execution?
I believe Sonia's possible execution is being forced to eat a poisonous apple, like Cinderella.
It's more like a victorian themed lace choker for the neck, since the victorian style often represents nobility
this is a good idea, but in danganronpa universe this death is “boring”. Most people won’t look into that, and think “ damn she just got her head cut off? Boring.” But I love the idea!

A junko fully healed from her life of despair seeks to redeem herself by fixing the mess she caused one by one bringing them to senses and some even tagging along to help but some will be more stubborn and insane then others
They might of seen you as their god then Junko but no longer do they see you as God but they seen you are filth
Still you need to play these mind games like you have in the past but you sadly don’t have a hope video all you have is that despair video that helped you start this mess,
Some do go to the light easily but some are chained into the dark and only you can break this chains
The world counts of you enoshima don’t disappoint or deny it we all know it’s your fault this even started

Tbf in the second game technically speaking everyone kinda was the mastermind, obviously aside from Chaiki. They all went into the neo world knowing Junko was going to override it, they all wanted that to happen and for her to take them over, at least that’s what Junko claims,,
This is also implied with the Komaeda boat flashback, since he didn't appear to be restrained. This could mean all of them knew Izuru had the virus in his hands and wanted to taste despair all over again.
I guess they didn't know that their minds were going to be reverted.

This is way too good. I wanna just like it over and over. The animation is flawless and the character design it's just perfect and very smooth. Seriously this is just a masterpiece. Thank you for blessing my eyes with this.
Could be nice if there was a fan animation with this art style, especially detailing how the Remnants of Despair brought the world to its knees.
Honestly after rewatching this I find the idea of a series where the Killing Harmony class is in the real world trying to undo their damage while still maintaining their old personas as the Ultimate Despairs and this could be like the finale where they betray Junko by subverting the worlds expectations of what they became. I kind of like the idea of seeing the group who has actually honed their talents trying to fix their mistakes even if they are irreversible. It can even lead to new conflicts with people who still want the despair to continue and maybe even finally tie in the V3 cast?
The only problem is idk what to do with the V3 cast because the game is a weird mess and I'm not sure how to interpret it in the canon as it seems purposefully ambiguous. It seems like it was a hoax, but at the same time it pulls a time card and Idk what to believe. It was also very isolated from the other games in everything but the ending.
Basically if you haven't played V3 yet you are in for a trip and it would be nice to see where it actually ties in to the universe.

i like the headcanon of future foundation making auditions for virtual killing games, get the people who's 'inner despair' was the darkest and get them in the killing game to show them how bad that stuff is. :D

Sonia Nevermind only has a pink single line placed on her neck in her portrait, while the others have exes and such, i think it resembles that she, as a princess, gets beheaded.
Since beheading is commonly known in royal kingdoms.
I literally saw this pop up right when I was in my DR binge again in like late January and then it got taken down the next day. My favorite anime opening music AND some amazing art and animation. A Teruteru kiss on this one!!

here are some things I noticed
mahiru: she's in a darkroom where photographs are developed
nidai: electricity could be signalling to how he became a robot
imposter: in the mirrors, it shows the normal versions of the characters instead of the mastermind versions
soda: is he shirtless.
gundham: the bear fur can imply he killed an animal :(
tsumiki: wanted to point out, she has bandaids on her fingers
nagito and hinata: they both have red monokuma eye collar corner things
oh my god this is absolutely stunning !! i can only imagine how much work was put into it it looks amazing!! the colours !! thr smooth movements !! the outfits!! and the music too omg this opening always hits hard for me - im not even in the dg fandom anymore and havent been for a while but your animation almost brought a tear to my eye bc while watching it i was like "damn thats why i loved those games sm"
YOOOOOO the attention to detail that Nagito’s only able to move his RIGHT arm up to his face is amazing!
I like how the darts thrown at Nagito were Mikan’s needles which were flying away from her in the scene prior. Nagito dubs Mikan and himself the Ultimate Despair & Ultimate Hope respectively (right after her guilty verdict in Ch.3, and the video message after his murder trial in Ch.5), so I think that scene showing the both of them back to back as if they were fighting is an intentional nod to their dynamic mirroring Makoto & Junko’s fight, and the eternal war of Hope vs Despair in the series.
