700C Wheels On A Mountain Bike

  • Can you put 700C wheels on a mountain bike? The answer is yes, and they will fit on a mountain bike with 26 inch wheels or with 27 1/2 inch wheels. If you put them on a bike with 27 1/2 inch wheels, you will have more room for bigger tires. But if you have a 26 inch mountain bike, you can squeeze 700C wheels onto it. So if you ever wondered if you can put road racing bike wheels on a mountain bike, the answer is yes. If you want to learn if you can put 700Cwheels on a mountain bike, watch this video, where I put 700 mm road racing bike wheels on to a mountain bike. You will have to make sure that the brakes line up properly, and that you have the correct number of gears for the transmission.

    to reduce vibrations on 700c all u need is to change 23mm wide tires to 28 and reduce psi a little bit (i even heard 700c might even take 32mm tire) ...

  • @antman5474
    @antman5474 6 лет назад +2

    the main difference is the distance between the rear dropouts on an MTB compared to a racer style road bike, 135mm compared to 120mm so as long as you get the rear wheel built using an MTB hub you won't end up forcing the chain stays out of alignment, which will cause issues but other than that just make sure the brakes are hub mounted.

    I'm building a PBFWD recumbent, so this info was quite helpful to me, I now know I can source MTB frames and then use roadbike wheels with it. MTB frames are cheaper, stronger and more likely to be steel (easier to weld).

    Been riding 700c wheels [32mm tires] on my 26" Dawes Haymaker since 2009. At the time it was my only bike and I would swap wheel sets beginning/end of winter. Only downside is that 38mm is about the max for tire clearance.

    Isn't 700c like 29er? I have 700c tyres (semi slicks) on my 29er, didn't change the wheels, just the tires. Solely for road use since I've been using my Marlin 6 to commute.

      I commute to work everyday and I hit the trails on my day off do you know how fast nobby tires wear on the pavement? I was going to buy another set of wheels and do exactly this.. the build cost about $300 including rotors tires cassette... So I bought a hybrid 700c with matching everything for $379 hell if it doesn't work at least Im keeping both bikes wait have no space at home for two bikes (T_T) and worst it was a womens bike on clearance coming this Friday I wanna die.....

      I really like this bike too. It was on a list of best suspension mountain bikes under $1000 when we bought it. It worked great for normal trail riding, but because we like to go to a downhill ski lift bike park during mountain bike season, we upgraded the front fork to something that could take a better beating and was more adjustable. Overall this is a great bike for the money.

    • @hoohoohoblin

      Another option that I would probably consider if I was going to do this, would be to get some slick tires like WTB Thick Slicks and run really high air pressure. That way you could go fast, and it wouldn’t look as silly, and you would have good grip and puncture resistance.

    is 28'' the same as 700c? I've got a Kellys CRX cross, it is my project bike and I'm planning to give it some wider wheels.
    Will 29er tires fit 28'' tires?

    • @hoohoohoblin

      That’s a good question. I’m not sure. You will want to find an expert on the Internet and make sure before you buy new tires. I read on one website that 700 C is the same is 28 inches. I think 20 Niners are bigger though.

I even greased the stantion because the fork was old and seized. Now its awesome and ride it in any type of road or weather conditions. Suspension has been smooth as silk. 😁👍

      I think the best thing to do, and the easiest would be to put some skinny slick street tires on the stock rims. I couldn’t test drive it because the bike has disc brakes, and the wheels were from a bike with rim brakes.

    Good video. The best way to go around this is to buy road tires for your mountain bike or fit fatter tires on your road bike. I run Conti Grand Prix 26x1 on my classic rigid mtb and they are great, light and fast ! The tire makes more difference in rolling resistance/comfort than the actual wheel.
