Our Anthem isn't just a song, it's also a prayer hence we get so emotional when we sing it.
Our anthem is not just a song but it is also a prayer to the Lord and when we sing it it reminds us of our struggles as black south Africans but the beauty of it is the forgiveness and standing together as one, that is the strength and the beauty of our national anthem

In South Africa or Africa we only sing a national anthem when national teams play each other...also we don't sing it during domestic matches and we don't do pledge of alliance at schools

Look, we're not perfect, this beautiful RSA of ours. But it's the country that raised amazing children and saved amazing animals. A land where all miracles are possible. I was born in Taiwan but raised in RSA and was taught both the Taiwanese and SA national anthem. They're both amazing. But as one girl who's seen the pre-apartheid and the post, the national anthem has definitely evolved into its best version.
Proud to say that although very few of us asian people here know how to love this country and sing our anthem, at least I do! And I hold it close to my heart because this country is home.

Our anthem gives me shivers and makes me tear all the time. I guess it stems from the times when the isiZulu/isiXhosa/seSotho parts used to be outlawed. This used to be a war cry for black South Africans and now we sing it as a one people.
South Africa's Nationa Anthem is actualy a prayer and it has 5 official which are Xhosa , Zulu , Sotho , Afrikaans and English.

FYI the singer's name is Zolani Mahola. She sang the song WakaWaka with Shakira for the 2010 World Cup hosted in SA

Our Anthem is a Prayer, that is why most people closes their eyes.
Lawrence(aka Laucrack) from SA, our national anthem is not about the country but is about the whole continent of Africa and that makes it special. It's simply says "Lord Bless Africa". A person who wrote this song, wrote it during the colonialism and every black person loved the song. From 1994 it became the national athem and other languages were added in the song as it was only sang in Zulu. The additional of languages made the song a RAINBOW NATION SONG. This song is a prophetic prayer for Africa. I long all Africans to sing this song in their own languages.

Nah, in pretty much the rest of the world the national anthem is played only when one country's national team plays another country's national team. It's not used for domestic competitions unless it's a cup final or something.

Our national anthem is a prayer,for Africa and our country, that's why you see most of the time people's eyes are closed. We are asking for thr Most High God to be with us,bless us and protect us❤🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
South African here, white, and for most people in the country, the anthen signified change and unity. So everyone in South Africa actually sings the anthem and it is pretty frowned upon to see sport players not sing the anthen when representing the country.

I think people find it odd that Americans sing their national anthem when playing against other American teams. A lot of sports, even when playing internationally do not perform anthems, so just seems like an odd thing to do when the anthem is normally sung to represent 1 vs another. While yes we always sing anthems for international rugby matches that would not be the case if two south African teams were playing against each other or even two club teams from different countries.
We have 11 official languages in South Africa. Schools teach in English Afrikaans, and Isizulu or any one other official language hence most of us can sing the entire anthem. We are a truly rainbow nation. 🌈 ❤

The lady leading the anthem is Zolani from the group 'Freshlyground',you can find ghem here on YT and that was actually not a SAn 🇿🇦 domestic rugby game.So it's not a norm for us to sing the anthem at any game.

We Strive and struggle for FREEDOM in this beautiful diverse country. Sometimes we cry for freedom here because our people and beautiful country is worth it. I travel all over the world, but I only feel HOME here. We as a people are friendly, pretty, hardworking and our food is amazing and our big five and beautiful mountains and scenery compared to all other countries I have traveled too. Even with the corrupt government and crime this is OUR AFRICA !!!!!!! ❤❤❤

The South African national anthem and the Tanzanian national anthem are likely the same the difference is for south African it's in the Zulu language and for Tanzania Swahili, much love from South Sudan the Gaint people The tallest people on earth.

Countries sing there national anthems before international games between different countries... not when playing games between teams of the same country.
