Layout makes sense. Being nasty dirty from fishing, diving etc you don't have to worry about a fancy lower deck(living room) getting messed up. Just spray it out and wipe it down. Very clever for those who really use their boat.

He's referring to the way the back, sides and tops of the cabinet boxes have to fit the curved hull and support beams. In homes, cabinets butt against a flat/plumb wall. Flat = 2D. Curved/Raised/Contoured = 3D. It takes a lot more forethought to install cabinets on a boat.
