    As a proud owner of the Lagoon 42 and very happy with the finishing and the after service. I was thinking of upgrading to 4.6 but the issues of ventilation and poor sailing performance are really worrisome 😢. On the hand, this boat looks amazing, as good as the Lagoon 51

      Hey @hatemtawfik, which model year of the Lagoon 42 do you own? Happy to read, you are satisfied with the quality and service! I chartered a Lagoon 450Fly in 2018 for a week in Thailand and it was great regarding space and comfort at anchor, but the helm feel was vague/indirect and for the sailing experience it was more at the lower end of cats that I chartered so far. The 4.6 is quite similar, only has a much larger flybridge and a forward cockpit, which we also extensively used. Wouldnt take either for a circumnavigation, but you can have great family holidays on both! Didn't check out the Lagoon 51 yet, since Lagoons went out of my focus because of the reasons above,..

      @@janwantstosail 2022 but delivery was in 2023. The build quality is superb I must say. Lagoon apparently listens to owners' comments and the after sales is simply superb. According to the FB group, the build quality has dramatically improved from the 2017/2018 models, but the price of the Bali is so much lower.

      Great to hear! I am currently thinking about an Excess 14, which also belongs to the same group. Build quality is paramount,.. do not want to get lost at sea,.

    Thank You for the very thorough review. I don't think anyone buying this boat is seriously thinking of sailing upwind, this is the ultimate condo-cat and that has a lot of appeal to some people (possibly me). In the sailing yacht vs. motor yacht discussion, this is essentially a motor yacht that leans into sailing. When put in that context it becomes a lot more likeable.
    My biggest concern is whether you really feel like you're sailing or are you so ensconced in luxury that the joys of sailing are substantially muted and you might as well be on a motor yacht.

      Thanks for your great comment! I felt, and i mean it in the best possible way, like on comfortable driftwood. Yes, she sails, maybe not even as bad as it sounds in my review (i am a spoiled brat in regards of sailing), but she also is not as fast as motor vessels. If you have time and you want to drift with the wind along the coast in comfort and zip a cocktail in the shade on the rooftop of your floating condo, this is the yacht for you. Since I love the sensation of sailing with speed like a good handling dingi, she is not for me. (Maybe I will think different in 30 years though) ;-)

      @@janwantstosail Well Put! Sounds like the automatic transmission of the sailing world, it gets you there but you're fairly disconnected from the experience.
      Thanks again for the review.

    Ventilation poor is a dramatic understatement! We charters in the Grenadines, half of the crew slept outside as was intolerable below decks. The boat was designed to stay plugged in at the dock! If your generator worked you could run AC but who wants to listen to that at anchor. We chartered the 4.4, the the household fridge runs on AC powered through the inverter and is very in efficient. The hatches (4) 2 in the forward sail lockers and 2 in the forward birth stbd and one in port head opened backwards and thus were essentially useless. I personally would not charter this boat again ever! As for sailing, it just doesn’t!

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  10 месяцев назад

      With us also most people slept on deck too. Fortunately there is enough space ;-) also it was not so freakingly hot, when we were on the way.
      I agree with all your points, nevertheless we had great holidays and the kids loved jumping off the coachroof, the mid-aged had sundowners on the roof terrace and my 80+ years old parents had a comfortable time underway in the forward cockpit.
      I think, the owners version will have a better ventilation though.
      You surely should not take this yacht, if your focus is on sailing.

    Hello , I noticed that the saloon table was not equipped with an integrated bar. Did you find the shorter stainless steel table legs to convert it into an additional bed ?

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  6 месяцев назад

      Hello Steve, thanks for your comment! I could not find any other legs. As far as I remember, the tables on this boat could not be adjusted.

    This boat offers so much more than the lagoon 46 yet the resale price speaks of the unspeakable.

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  7 месяцев назад +1

      Every boat is a compromise and to put a ton of people onto a boat, you automatically end up with bad ventilation and smaller cabins which again lower the value for private owners after charter. The Bali 4.6 is not eversyone's cup of tea. in my eyes it is purely a charter yacht for family holidays or a swimming party platform. And there she delivers almost like no other boat of that size.

  • @jesper1406

    There's one here in the marina in my town in Spain. It's for charter, but the reviews of the Bali 4.6 on their homepage are so bad, that they're now selling it after only one season. 1,5 million euros they paid, and it's for sale for 1 million euro. Half a million down the drain! 😢

      So you think I would go for the lagoon 46 instead ?

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hello @@hatemtawfik, thanks for yoru comment! I once sailed the Lagoon 450F for one week and I did not like sailing on her. At Anchor it was great though. I never had this indirect rudder feel before and after and i asume, the Lagoon 46 will be similar. Also it depends, what you want to do. For family holidays the Fly is great, for ocean crossings only with a sport top, because with the Fly the boom is really high and it is hard to put the sails back into the lazyjack.
      Now we are in the buying process with another yacht, which I consider having the best of those and the Nautitech 46. and as I see it for now without the downfalls of either of them. Stay tuned, as soon as the handover is done, there will be many new videos!

  • @eaglee4010

    Very, very nice boat. Only the raised helmsman position is unacceptable. As a result, the boom is too high.

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  10 месяцев назад

      Yep, agree, although this could be improved with better stairs to the bimini andnalso a more wide/more stirdy walkway to zip/unzip the main sail. Not for ocean crossings but great for family holidays. Each yacht is a compromise, there simply is no perfect yacht,..

    Probably best to rent hotels rooms and not yachts
    All you did was complain

    • @janwantstosail
      @janwantstosail  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hello @davidhenderson433,
      Probably there is a misunderstanding. I intend to show everything as I see it. I point out what I like and what I dislike. It is my honest review and I try to help others, who intend to buy or charter one of the yachts, that I review.
      It is not meant as complaining or bashing, actually the opposite is right: The yacht is great for family holidays as we did and I think, I pointed this out quite often, how much we liked it. I also would pick this yacht over hotels every time.This yacht was the right pick for us for this week. That being said, I am personally searching for other type of yachts, that are more seaworthy and also more agile.
