I've gotten some of these for emergency sprinkler repairs. Thanks for the video and the recommendation.

That is cool. I just bought some at HomeDepot but the size is not right so I will have to go back there and replace it. Now I feel confident that I can fix it learning that it can work with pressurized pipe.

Can I use this on an outside water main?

Sorry I missed this comment. The max working pressure for a 1in fitting is 150 lbs. Which might be high enough, but I would suggest measuring your pressure first.
If you are doing an unregulated pressure main that is PVC and are trying to connect or repair PVC and are unsure of the pressure, then I would use the SharkBite and slip connector found here -- www.sharkbite.com/us/en/brass-push-to-connect/fittings/couplings/push-to-connect-pvc-slip-coupling. Can be purchased from Home Depot or Lowes or online from Amazon if you can wait a day or 2 for delivery.
I recently had to use a SharkBite connector from PVC to Copper on my main. At some point someone replaced my galvanized line with PVC and then came up with copper. Which kind of sucked because I was told it was all replaced with copper. So instead of digging up my front yard to replace the entire PVC section that night, I simply cut off the broken piece and used a SharkBite connector, again It was the fastest way to transition from PVC pipe to copper. Its been working ever since. I do want to replace the PVC line with copper but figured it is working for now and will probably last some time.

The SharkBite connectors are probably not for PVC pipe, I've only seen them for copper, PEX, and CPVC for potable water.

Hello Cban, thank you for your comment. Here is a link to the SharkBite PVC connectors that are compatible with PVC Pipe: www.sharkbite.com/us/en/brass-push-to-connect?f%5B0%5D=pipe_compatibility%3A208. You can also find them on Amazon. I have used one of these connectors on my main line as a repair for a section of PVC that was previously fixed in a funky way over 10 years ago. They replace the galvanized line with PVC and then came up with copper. Instead of digging up my front yard to replace the entire PVC section, I simply cut off the broken piece and used a SharkBite connector, It was the fastest way to transition from PVC pipe to copper with out doing a lot of work. Just be sure to get the white colored slip connector which is designed specifically for PVC. Thank you again for your comment. let me know if you have any more questions.
