Just an FYI: berners can have a very strong prey instinct and will kill animals. They can be very protective of the fence line because they're working dogs. They need to be socialised as soon as possible, but not to overwhelm them. They tend to eat poop. They're extremely stubborn and don't like to listen. They have A LOT of energy! They are extremely good with kids, are cuddle bugs, will follow you everywhere and love attention.
Bernese mountain dog are farm dogs, they should not have a problem with other animals because they are supposed to protect them on a farm. If a Berner is doing any of these I would be concerned
For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

I hope you're all happy now. No doubt you've learned that you don't need just a brush for a Berner; a small vacuum will also work. Their discarded hair makes great sweaters. They need close attention on really hot days, since they were created for the Swiss Alps. They are the sweetest, cuddliest, most loving dogs in the world and I want another one! Sorry I got a little hysterical there. The only problem I had with a Berner is that he was too big to carry into the vet's office.
I love that you did your research and went to a reputable breeder!!! I always say adopt or "shop" responsibly. Whether you are going to rescue or go to a breeder, do it ethically and responsibly. He is too cute! Bernese Mountain Dogs may now be on my list of breeds I want some day haha

I 100% agree!! If your breeder is a reputable good breeder it’s totally safe! Also adopting a dog is honestly amazing as well! I have both I have a pitbull rescue and I also have an Aussie from a really good reputable breeder!! Both are great. I also foster so I support both depending on the breeder. ❤
I just lost my berner a few days ago, she was 10 so I got more years than most but gosh I miss her. Enjoy everything the good and the struggles. The years go by so quickly it feels like yesterday I picked up my little girl. Some things I wish I knew earlier was get them used to being brushed and getting their nails clipped as early as you can:) They'll blow their coat twice a year and the groomers will be able to get their undercoat out better than you can(also make sure to tip your groomers)! Also antlers are a great option instead of raw hides:) Felix is so cute and looks like hes going to an amazing family, thanks for sharing this its brought a smile to my face for the first time in days

Adorable! I wish you many years with your new baby. We have our 2nd Berner, 10 mos now, named Rollo. Always secure your baby in the car when traveling. We are in our seatbelts, but guess what happens in a collision to our pups, front (with airbag) or back. They make secure harnesses for them to clip in safely, God forbid. Bernese are very special dogs. Enjoy every minute, go lots of places together and take lots and lots of photos. They wrap around your heart like no other!

Help him to learn to be comfortable on his own to prevent this! Make sure he has time to himself either in a crate or on a place bed. In lockdown I’m also watching videos about decluttering then I start this and it’s all about stuff to buy! Seriously neither dogs nor humans need so much stuff destined for landfill. We also got a puppy this year- he’s just as happy with an old sock rolled up as a fancy toy.

I would recommend getting the furminator brush because that one gets their like undercoat and like dead hair or loose hair that should come off, and it works rlly well!
If he pees or poops make sure to give him a treat like while he is using the bathroom. And take him out at designated times until he is used to going out, then maybe you can just let him out freely.
Puppys need to go out like once a hour. He should go out after he just played, sleept or ate. If you take him out often you have less accidents inside. I did this with my dog when he was a puppy and he was fully pottytrained when he was 4 months old
Hey! But what do i do if i live in an apartament? And i dont have my own backyard....It is unsafe to go outside in the middle of the night because again i dont have my private backyard, so anything can happen, because there are a lot of creeps outside!🥺

about potty time it helps to make it really fun for him, make it one of the most fun things to do with him so that he will want to go potty outside and when he does u can even throw in some treats sometimes. hope this helps
I have a Bernese and he is energetic. That energy doesn’t last long though and he will then sleep for the rest of the day. You will need to get a much bigger harness and collar as they will get too small very quickly. They are very friendly dogs but you don’t want him to get used to you carrying him around all the time as he will get bigger and you won’t be able to carry him anymore.

First thing in the morning obviously lol , and he should be fed at specific times and 20 mins after they eat anything, then hopefully you walk him twice a day as well as bedtime. He will get used to it and start to let ya know if it isnt a regular trip out. He is so adorable.

I breed bernese mountain dog I’m a reputable breeder. I recommend a rack for brushing. I get mine at farm stores, they are for horses. I groom and show my own dogs so if you have any questions let me know. What breeder did you get him from?

Girl it’s so weird how similar our reasons for wanting Bernese mountain dogs I also had a Saint Bernard growing up, I loved him so much, I’ve been wanting a Bernese for a year now and I’m waiting until I graduate college next year to get one
