When he started taking lessons from Freddie Gruber and playing traditional grip he started playing a lot more relaxed and turned The Professor onto Freddie! Steve’s hi-hat trick is sick and his channel is so cool! He plays these old kits from the 1920’s that are beautifully restored!

      @@DrJ-hx7wv Ya know, that’s a good question. I just saw a 3-piece SQ2 set for sale - from a major retailer - for over $4,000. Its nuts. Best live drum sound I’ve ever heard was Emmanuelle Caplette playing a Sonor Vintage Series kit; her playing and the drums’ sound knocked me right out. That show was a 4-drummer marathon of clinic/performances, so it was easy to hear the contrast between her kit, a Gretsch/Frankenstein kit, and DW drums. Her sound blew everyone else’s away.
      They are great drums and well made, but unquestionably really expensive. Warranted? Hard to say. I know for a fact the cost of DW drums is way out of hand, almost unethical. There’s nothing special about them at all.

    • @markfinney7387
      @markfinney7387 3 года назад +4

      @@DrJ-hx7wv Sonorlite drums were made completely in Germany using a special type of metal not ordinary pot metal, the lugs also have the snaplock feature that uses special tension rods that are flattened on two sides along with metal clips. Sonorlite drums also use Scandinavian birch wood so it's the quality of materials, design elements and craftsmanship that costs. Good sound is a little different for each person but generally speaking, with good heads and careful tuning, they sound wonderfully good a little like the Yamaha Recording Custom drums except with a little more brilliance to the sound. Hope this helps and happy drumming!

    Steve cut his teeth playing with Jean Luc Ponty Fusion Jazz Band! including Allan Holdsworth! Naturally when the Journey opportunity arrived Steve was on his way as long as you don't get on Neal's bad side

    Believe it or not, back when they first used to rehearse this tune at Tom's house, they (or at least Tom) used to call it "Fart in a Space Suit." It was such a cool tune, that I guess the goofy title just didn't seem appropriate for public consumption.
