I know this is probably TMI or whatever but this album has a special place in my heart. I had a best friend in high school that I showed this album to and he loved it just as much as I did. We’d play video games; smoke weed, study, etc. just playing this album to death. Later, we grew apart and he got into hard drugs. Which unfortunately led him to breaking into somebody’s house and getting shot by the home owners.
We didn’t have any pictures together or anything like that. But this album is one of the few things I have to remember him by. I know I have a biased emotional attachment to it but even that aside, I think this is one of the most underrated albums in hip hop history. I barely ever hear anyone talk about it, let alone even know it exists. But the instrumentation; vocals, lyrics, vibe, delivery, flow, etc. is all just perfectly constructed. It’d be cool if they did more work together.
    RIP Skyler Weisberg

Hip Hop and reggae are like brothers. Many of the founding fathers of Hip Hop were of Jamaican or Caribbean heritage and borrowed from the culture of reggae. The idea of the DJ being the feature while the emcee draws the crowd, travelling sound sytems, even crews & competition was inspired by reggae. That said, there was a time in the 90's where dancehall and Hip Hop collabs became popular. Check out "Hip Hopera" with Bounty Killah ft. The Fugees.
Oh, and if you enjoyed Damien's take on the rich going to the moon, you might wanna check out "Honkeys on The Moon" a spoken word by Gil Scott Herron (precursor to the spirit of Hip Hop) it's a bit radical, but the point is definitely made!

so many good songs on that album. it kind of went under the radar, they released it with alot of videos but little promotion. my favorite was the one where Damien raps about all of the cities in Africa and then Nas relates each city to a place in America. I thought that concept was very very cool. Nas and Damien Marley - Promise Land. But there are a handful of songs from this CD just as good or better than this one. It was a very organic collaboration that worked extremely well, randomly!

    I just have two suggestions:
    1. There's a website called Genius that has all the lyrics of songs like this one, but when you click one each bar, you get an explanation of what the artists was trying to say (long time fans contribute these explanations). Even as a huge fan of these rappers, it's super difficult to catch what they're actually saying sometimes. What might seem like a simple bar might have hidden meanings, sometimes multiple meanings for the same bar (double/triple entendre). So I'd suggest trying that with artists that have a little more complex lyrics.
    2. For some of these songs, the videos are part of the experience. You reacted to Busta Rhymes - Gimme Some More, and the video for that is 70% of the fun. If it's important enough, like with that song, I hope people suggest you watch the video instead 'cause the lyrics aren't as important as the visuals.

    • @ABoomerReacts
      @ABoomerReacts  Год назад

If I can't find an appropriate lyric video, I go to Genius and scroll as the song is playing. But before I hear the song, I don't want to click on the highlighted bars because I don't want to know anything about the song. After I finish filming a reaction, I watch the official music video; and if I feel the need, I will check out Genius.
Watching the official video during my reactions has been a debate on this channel. Check this out: ruclips.net/video/uDs0zObxn3s/видео.html

RUN DMC had a song called Roots, Rappers, Reggae and UTFO's song Pick Up the Pace has a cool little reggae break in it. Heavy D has some reggae songs. @@ABoomerReacts you’re welcome! Great to hear psycho is on your list! Akala’s are “written” freestyles but doesn’t take away from the talent, the content of his rhymes are excellent you’ll definitely enjoy

Thanks for calling them "written" freestyles. One of my big pet peeves on this channel is that off the dome freestyles and written freestyles are both called "freestyle". They are two different things.@@11_panda

Would be better if you reacted to what you actually like and don't like about the song. You seem pretty unimpressed yet you said Nas was great. But you didn't say why or what lines stood out.
Reaction would be better if you dove into what the song made u feel and if you liked it or not.

Thanks for the feedback! It's difficult for me analyze songs after only hearing it once. But that's what reaction videos are. I didn't say if I liked it or not?

    • @cameleyez

@@ABoomerReacts I understand you might need some time to really breakdown the entire track. You summarized the lyrics instead of pointing out the rhymes you thought were perhaps polarizing or interesting. Or even if you liked the beat. You.mentioned how it sounds like a song you would listen to on a dark night drive, I agree. But that was really the extent of your analysis. I would watch more reactions if you dug deeper in explaining your stance on a song. You seemed unimpressed by it but at the same time somewhat intrigued yet you really didn't get into if the song did anything for you.

thanks mr boomer. i guess this song helped young disoriented people to ask there selfs "are we growing wiser or just taller" and maybe some start questioning there behavior and made them want to be wiser. i realy like that song it s refreshing in a music industry wich was/is promoting the wrong things or literaly just things.
usualy in rap music, the singles were songs wich the artist did specialy to be able to be played on the radio and tv, something for the big public. And the other songs were for the fans those wich will listen to the whole album. you migth realize that the singles have less curses and the beat migth be more medolic and not as hard.
