That's the chorus riff for "Born", and yes, it's one of the greatest chorus's and riff's ever written. It's also quite challenging and fun to play. I like how they start cheering at the diminished arrpegios at the end of the Born solo. That part is almost impossible but he makes it look easy here.
What I like the most about Jeff Loomis is that he's not afraid to do what a lot of guitar snobs would consider "amateur", like using open strings in the tapping riff at 1:16. He doesn't let the fact that he's a skilled guitarist get in the way of exploring all of the possibilities with the guitar.
This was the video where I first found out about him. My jaw dropped to the floor.. I was like how the heck did I not know about this guy!? Amazing musician.
Hahaha! One of the best comments on RUclips right there my friend! On another note, Loomis' technique is incredible, how does he manage to pick/tap/sweep etc. with so much precision. Amazing.
Damn, where the hell was I when this happened??? What a awesome fk'n vid, man! You were right in his face for the ultimate shred clinic! All his best solos in one kick ass compilation. Thanks for posting that!
@HeavyMetalVagabond I'm glad you liked Timewarp. Over the Mountains always melts my face though and soulmates is a super slick song with excellent phrasing and awesome choice of notes
Jeff is awesome...he has all the major bases covered which is quite rare...rhythm,lead,melody,phrasing and composition. Many guys can "shred" old Yngwie licks faster than Yngwie himself but they can't play rhythm guitar and/or write a decent riff to save their lives. Jeff is an exception...he is raising the bar for metal players in a positive way.
Just great playing and such an nice ear for melody! I myself play the guitar in a metal band, doing ok, but not near this godlike skills.. If i ever becomes realy great at the guiter i would play solos like this.. actually the soll at the end is one of my favourites when i want to pick out the greates solos for newbies or just some one who hasn´t heard Nevermore before.. simply amazing.. sorry for the bad spelling guys
jeff has changed the way i play diminished arpeggios. he really tests them to the extreme. his arpeggio use is very innovative like that of jason becker.
children... don't try to do this without supervision of a good guitar teacher... if you do on your own... press 91... after one minute playin' like him you'll be able to press just 1... IMPRESIVE TECHNIC... just amazing.
i didn't listen to metal for like 7 years, then i heard loomis' solo album. thank god he's making another one. i don't know what else to listen to. wouldn't mind if he broadened his genre though. He's obviously capable of it, but that's just me, whatever caulks your wagon.
Jeff is SO underrated. Many of you say oh his high gain is covering up his mistakes/sloppiness, not true. He uses high gain to get the low a/b string to be heard and besides metl NEEDS high gain. And Jeffs' stuff is some of the most inspirational. If you want to hear him at his best just wait 'til his solo album comes out.
Good news every one, Jeff is coming to Rock House next week to shoot his first every FULL length instructional DVDs, Check out Rock House Method for more info,
Jeef Loomis is ,with NO dought,a brise of fresh air on the "new" guitar players. This guy is a fuckin'animal!Very good taste on is criations, technicaly amazing and very humble!Cheers for Jeef Loomis!
It's a shame him and Chris Broderick aren't playing with eachother anymore. It's an even bigger shame they never recorded an album with eachother. That would've been LEGENDARY!!
Very, very true. I've got much smaller hands them him, unfortunately, so it makes his particular style of playing pretty difficult for me. The stuff Michael Romeo plays is more my speed due to him having smaller hands also, and using a lot of legato in his playing in a way to make up for it. I tend to go that route myself.
That's the chorus riff for "Born", and yes, it's one of the greatest chorus's and riff's ever written. It's also quite challenging and fun to play.

It's not just the playing but the attitude while shredding so tastily. Jeff's the man

The thing that plays at 2.32 is insane.
My ears are in love!!
Jeff Loomis has such an awesome playing style. He's definitely one of the best players in metal these days.
Just great playing and such an nice ear for melody! I myself play the guitar in a metal band, doing ok, but not near this godlike skills.. jeff loomis in my eyes The best guitar player in my world.

The last one was the best. The solo for This Godless Endeavor is amazing, probably one of his best, if not his best.

Awesome song!!!
That was sick. Thanks!
How come it is possible to someone dislike this guy playing guitar?
amazing guitarist from an awesome band./...
the title of the vid is naam 2008 but the description says 2007. which means jeff can time warp with those guitar skills
sure hope he's at NAMM 2009 i'll be there rocking out
Jeff Loomis is insane each of his fingers has a mind of its own. Cant wait for Wacken Open Air 09
Good news every one, Jeff is coming to Rock House next week to shoot his first every FULL length instructional DVDs, Check out Rock House Method for more info,
it's not "the final product"!
the song is: "The River Dragon Has Come" from album "Dead Heart In A Dead World"

JUST AMAZING!!!!
LEGEND!
with jeff loomis of NEVERMORE!!!!!
60fps is not enough
awesome!!!!
@HeavyMetalVagabond That's from "The River Dragon has Come" on Dead Heart in a Dead World.
this guy is the only guy left in metal besides paul gilbert that can still come up with fresh original stuff.
:O weyyyy el mejor guitarrista que hay!!!!Sin duda alguna.
His guitar is a signature 7 string Schecter based off the Hellraiser. The back of the neck matches the body in finish.
Thanks man!
Amazing! This guy must have been shredding right out of the womb.
ive seen him play it live perfectly...
only one word: excellent!
WHY would you dislike this video?
+Austin Behel -or HOW? How is it even possible?
+Austin Behel Victims of facial melt trauma.
Jeef Loomis is ,with NO dought,a brise of fresh air on the "new" guitar players. This guy is a fuckin'animal!Very good taste on is criations, technicaly amazing and very humble!Cheers for Jeef Loomis!
The final comment "we're not worthy" has never rung so true.
Amazing
5:26 insane sweep picking... This guy is awsome and in the intro makes an insane tapping too
These 4 songs he plays are probably Nevermore's best solos merged into 1

love his shred... and his hair
no this is at NAMM its just him doing a compilation of all the solo's in This Godless Endeavor
there are many songs within this composition... any particular sections you would like to know?
It's a shame him and Chris Broderick aren't playing with eachother anymore. It's an even bigger shame they never recorded an album with eachother. That would've been LEGENDARY!!
Jeff is so underratted.
jeff is the perfect guitar machine!!!!!I'm so jealous and so proud of him, haha!!!!!
jeff is wicked alright, just such a pity they didn't record the sound separately off the desk.
But what a wicked shredder yeah !
The best Neo-classical metal guitarists ever
one word. BEAST!
There's not too may REAL guitar heroes out there. But this dude.....is more than that.
the first solo is from "Final Product". :D
Very, very true. I've got much smaller hands them him, unfortunately, so it makes his particular style of playing pretty difficult for me. The stuff Michael Romeo plays is more my speed due to him having smaller hands also, and using a lot of legato in his playing in a way to make up for it. I tend to go that route myself.
i just got a loomis signature!!! its soooo sick
amazing shred max
Dude, you rock. I would KILL for one of Loomis' picks, especially if it's still warm from the guitarwork.
It is, tyvm
i swear before i die i will learn all of his songs
That was realy enlightnening, cheers dude.
I figures just fine, thanx!
