To this day, I still remember all the inexplicable emotions that accompanied me when I first started listening to this album..... eternal love for this album...........
During summer break - when I was at grandma's - I used to stay up all night and wait for her to wake up, at around 4:00 am. We'd have a cup of coffee and chat a bit, then - at around 5:00 am, I'd climb to the house's roof with her and stargaze. Eventually she would come down and I'd stay there alone listening to this masterpiece while witnessing the dawn. Miss it badly.
I remember being 15 and this album being an unprecedented and unusual sound for me to somehow delve into. Years later, I think WOD for bringing me to all corners of music and being one of the most influential bands in my lifetime.
You’re so lucky you have had Internet at 15 man, I had America online freebie CD ROMs, and if you were cool enough to be worthy some dudes had some cassette tapes and pirated CDs maybe (I wasn’t cool enough)
The melodies in this album are so beautiful. It has the raw feeling like previous works, but more clean and more like a classical vibe too, hard to describe it. Masterpiece
been listening to Woods of Desolation since High School (I started off with their split with Drohtnung) which actually came out a year before that time, (which was a while ago now...I'm getting old). And back then there was virtually no fan base, its incredible to see how far "D" has come. Anyways, that aside, I recall the first time I listened to this album all the way through, I had just purchased it and was listening to it while walking home at night after work, my neighborhood has a small forest which I was going through, you could see the sky peeking through the tree tops, it was fall almost winter so you could see the stars, and the warmth that was still in the air was just enough to make the scent of the pine trees very strong....I was overwhelmed with emotion from the melancholy melodies and heartfelt vocals....It made my eyes swell up with tears...but not sad tears, they were tears of joy that something so beautiful could exist during such a miserable part of my life (I won't go into detail, but I was not doing well health wise and felt like giving up on so many things) and I truly mean it when I say this album got me through that time, and continues to get me through tough times with my auto immune conditions, and ailments/illnesses. I fucking love Woods of Desolation and always will. Unfold and This Autumn Light. (ofc Like Falling Leaves and every single song on this album and every WOD album are all fucking amazing), but those are my two most replayed on the album.
I just randomly discovered this band and this album. Im sitting in my dark room, speechless. This is just amazing. THIS is art. I have a feeling that this album will be something I wont forget. I am also not doing so good in life currently and this is very helpful. Nothing but music helps. I will surely check out more albums from this band!
Some people think Deathspell Omega's albums are for intelligent people, but I think that bans like Woods of Desolation, Drudkh, Forteresse and Winterfylleth are also very intelligent black metal with their beautifully crafted atmospheres. Deathspell Omega are intelligent chaos, but Woods of Desolation are intelligent beauty
I remember I listened to this as soon as it came out, back in 2014, which was a beautiful year for me. Brings back so many memories of 2014s autumn and winter, being with friends, enjoying the countryside, the bittersweet emotion of the World Cup (I'm Argentinian, we ended up second back then).. thanks so much for this, for being there in those beautiful moments, specially for "As falling leaves", "This autumn light", "Anamnesis", and of course, a song that legit made me cry: Ad Infinitum Thanks, WOD, really
I can't describe the effect that this masterpiece does to me. It's the same of the artwork, a spiritual journey. Thank you for everything, I hope one day I will meet you, Woods of Desolation. You gave me a lot.
I kinda feel like this was mixed the way it is intended to be heard, with the melodies at the forefront and the drums, while at times very powerful, supporting those melodies rather than drowning them out in overly abrasive snare and bass drum strokes. I think it was a choice that worked well for showcasing an aptitude for melody building.
beautiful album, very few have connected with me, and this I carry with me in my soul and in my mind, thank you for sharing a beautiful masterpiece! greetings from CHILE!!!
Recently discovered this from hearing that season of mist signed this band, I'm really happy to see that the black metal scene is going strong in Australia
Eric, eu adoro escutar essa banda porque a sonoridade me traz paz, felicidade e alegria, independente das letras. A última música me deixa emocionado só com os acordes, é incrível!

I asked the band on fb once, they said they weren't going to release them at this time. Could always track down the vocalist from drohtnung (a Perth) band, who did the vocals on the album, I suppose he'd know.

I am literally 15, and just found out this band exists.
And now im sitting here as a 15 year old, and thinking this
I was 40 when this dropped. It’s more “shoegaze” than I remember it being and I love it for that.
I would never have liked black before I heard the band Woods of Desolation. forever
NOSTALGIA, I love this album, miss my teenager days...

to be fair, you do need a high iq to understand woods of desolation

This project treads a perfect line between post rock and black metal. Pretty much all I have been seeking. Thank you. Purchased merch in appreciation.
These chords bring tears to my eyes! So emotional, so thrilling! I love this band
Me too. Never heard before masterpiece like this ❤😢
If only we could make this genre mainstream....wait. Bad idea.
It's exactly where it belongs
this kind of music is for intelligent people.
No shit, that's a bad idea.
No. It would be ruined like everything elae
If this Genre goes mainstream it's going to go through the same cycle as emo did.
It must have been 4 years... I still love this album

This sounds almost closer to post-rock than black metal but can't say I dislike it. Pretty good album.

But I would prefer without sing for more immersion

Это самая прекрасная музыка!
Случайно наткнулся на канал "Black metal Promotion". Очень крутая музыка, даже не зал таких исполнителей.
One of my favorites tracks.
I can hear the elitists saying this has too much color for a bm album lol
This is more Post-Black than BM. Even the art cover is Post-Black'ish
Yarox Kendo Nah, this is atmospheric BM on the melancholic side.
DSBM is Abyssic Hate, Nyktalgia, Trist, Shining, Totalselfhatred, etc.

That's true

the sound quality is a dream to me :)
Quality is amazing to me. Check your phone. Plus Black Metal and subgenres are often recorded with lower quality on purpose.
