I realize now, being an Edgerunner is to court death. Lucy didn’t want to love him because she was afraid to lose him. But his promise to send her to the moon gave him a reason to live. But she got distant after Maine passed and David became the top merc in the city which was Maine’s dream. David’s pride and inability to determine his own desires, but just grafting others and making their dreams their own instead of what he wanted lead to his ruin. If Lucy said “I want to go to the moon with you” maybe things would have been different.
You forgot that Lucy has been into old net for several years inside a arasaka facility, imagine not seeing the sun for years and believing you are inside moon? after she discovered the lies ofc her dream would be to know how real moon actually is, and accomplishing that with the help of david only make the "Sad ending" actually be a good ending, because after all years of suffering she had, finally got what she dreamed (Peace)

Isn't that inherent in the name Edgerunner? I thought that meant they are running on the edge of losing themselves and they all go over eventually. Some are brought back with therapy and downgrades but never fully recover. Most of the time psychos are just put down in NC.

I may be remembering it wrong, but wasn’t David’s share of the last mission supposed to be 500k, which is exactly enough for 2 people to go to the moon? (250k a ride IIRC)? My head-cannon is that he wanted to do the mission so they could go together
Yeah. My original experience with the show was when this song randomly popped up in my Recommended section and I listened to just a few seconds of it. I thought "hey, this looks pretty cool," and proceeded to watch the first episode out of curiosity... then immediately watched the next, and so on until I ended up finishing the entire anime in one sitting. Cut to now, about 6 months later and I still hear this song and instantly flash back to that scene with David and Lucy on the moon, Maine's and Becca's last moments (mainly their corpses), and all the themes of sublimated trauma throughout the show. It took me about a month of listening to this song nearly every day, and playing it back in my head in all of those little moments between doing something, to finally feel a bit less "something" when I listened to it. This song is fucking magical.

I agree I watched the series myself about a week after it came out I watched the whole series in one evening and even though it's been about 9 months now I'm still thinking about the story I'm still listening to the music from this series because then I have the whole story of the series in my mind emotions the characters that have been presented here this The series is the best I've ever watched 🇵🇱
Lucy breaking David out of the ambulance and riding the gurney down the road is one of my favourite pieces of animation - it captures that wild, transgressive, scary feeling of someone bursting into your life, and falling in love with them, that manic smile Lucy does down into the camera is perfection.
That scene just reminded me of Zero Two and Hiro from Darling in the Franxx (also animated by Studio Trigger) especially early on in the series with how Zero Two acted like a wild Child.
Literal Manic Pixie Dreamgirl. She seems exciting and new to a hopeless romantic, but come to find out she is just a human and as broken and messed up as everyone else.
The ambulance stretcher sequence at 0:30 is really mesmerizing. David's expression is amazing. It's as if there is nothing in the world but Lucy in that moment.

I was fortunate enough to experience a similar moment. The gentle moonlight shining on her face, just enough for me to see her looking straight at me as if she was looking directly at my soul. That kind of connection.
The final scene was one of the best ways I've ever seen loss of a loved one portrayed. You imagine they are there but they never will be. And that hurts the most.
Hardest part is when you see the silhouette of them in a complete stranger and you snap out of the thought because you know they are gone but it’s just a shock reminder
I've never been this heartbroken after finishing a show. The pain in lucy's eyes at the end makes my heart hurt every single time and I wish it could've ended happily, though it's still a masterpiece in any cases.
the only time i ever got this close to being heart broken after a show was after akame ga kill. that show was really good, i never expected it to get surpassed by cyberpunk edgerunners though.

I think the message was that he didnt really keep all the promises he made, but fooled himself into thinking he did, because that was the best he could do in that shitty situation. He went to the top of Arasaka, but was that really what his mother wanted for him? To fly up there for a few seconds in a fight against Arasaka? Or did Lucy really want to end up on the moon all by herself? No, the moment those 2 got closer, Lucy's dreams changed. She just wanted David to be alive, the moon was secondary at that point. One promise he did fulfill was the promise to Maine. He became a great leader and a night city legend just like Maine wanted him to. But thats why i find it so awesome. It isnt just a happy ending like in most other animes, its a bitter-sweet ending. Even though nothing turned out the way they wanted it to, they tried making the best out of it all by keep fighting for their loved ones, not just for their safety, but also for their dreams. Like Lucy still going to the moon because David wanted her to go, even though it wasnt her goal at all anymore...

You didnt paid attention when he clearly said that he would never be on top just because he born poor without a wealthy family, even a simple arasaka member almost killed him. He did, he was in top of arasaka, even if it was not in the hierachical way, he turned into a legend something that only few could do in that shithole. Even if he was sucessfull and got on top of corporate level, he would never be a legend.

What gets me is how things might have been different if they had confided in each other rather then protecting each other. David and his worry of possible psychosis and Lucy with protecting him from saka…. It was always gonna end this way, cause it’s who they are. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking.
It's a better story then Romeo & Juliet, in my view. But just as in R&J, if the two of them had communicated more clearly and effectively with each other, David & Lucy could have reached a better compromise; like just leaving Night City behind. I think wherever they are, so long as they're together, that would have been the moon to Lucy.
But could they have gotten this far if they weren't in such a relationship? There might be some regrets, but I'm sure David is satisfied with the outcome. Lucy's dream is his dream after all.
There's something about 0:32 where her eyes pop wide with excitement that just gets me. Seeing someone who is usually distant get filled with adrenaline makes me happy.
The look on her face when she realizes he's so far gone and she can't help him breaks my heart. She then played along to help comfort him, Becca was amazing.

I served in the military for 13 years but I’m against war, I stayed in only because I had no where else to go at the time, I got out and wondered, my dad died when I was in and we were close and I had no one after that so I relate to David. I am in my 30s out of the military, street bike, traveling the United States, living my life like every day is my last. Was amazing at the Grand Canyon, got to see the sun rise. Was badass to see. Heading up to Zion National Park in Utah now then on out toward Vegas then L.A.

I think the end matches really well with the cyber punk theme. It is hard to watch them go away but it is necessary to build this bitter sentiment and attachment to the characters.
I just can't get over this masterpiece. Every aspect of the show was incredible. Only 10 episodes long yet I was instantly connected to the characters. Many tears have been shed. Quiet life or Blaze o glory, the only ways out of night city.
I can't stop feeling depressed at this song, but I can't stop hearing it due to all the feelings involved. I really can't begin to describe the degree of masterpiece this anime is... anyone living in a big city with a humble background and great ambitions can relate to it in such a deep way. I'll never forget it.
The English language doesn't really have the capacity to describe this. The chasing of melancholy feelings for no other reason than to feel them. This postmodern era we live in has so many of us completely emotionally distant from each other, so we pour that emotion into fiction such as this, in the hopes it provides as much validation as we crave.
All of the characters were great, but I've got a special soft spot for Maine. He gave David a chance when he really didn't have to, and he always treated everyone on his crew like family.
I love how everyone in this comment section was touched so deeply by this anime. I've never seen so much emotion, action and thrill being packed into such a short anime series. The ending although expected was so devastating and bitter sweet, I legit could not stop thinking about it for a whole week. This song always makes my heart hurt, but it's such a beautiful song I can't help but listen to it every so often

There's a saying I forgot where but it goes "the best stories always end in tragedy". This could have been a very different story but these flawed people who didn't know how to open up and communicate are so humanely relatable that it could have only ended the way it did.
A beautiful tragedy... thats the only words i can really describe this show with. Its such an amazing anime series, it does everything right, it feels utterly brief, like a cool breeze on a scorching hot day, touches you and leaves you wishing for more. Hearing the song after watching the show can actually unexpectedly take your breath away as you feel the entire emotional rollercoaster all over again. This will go down as one of the most complete anime series ever... it starts, it tells a compelling story, and the story has a conclusion that forgoes the "too be continued?" nonsense that so many shows do these days.

Just finished it tonight, balled my eyes out during the whole last 10 minutes of the last episode. They really knocked it out of the park with this show.
Let us be honest, this anime wouldn't be as heart ripping without the song: "I really want to stay at your house." It ripps the heck out of my heart. In one way it is so sad, but what I wouldn't give to find a soulmate like this. Better to have lived and loved, then die alone... Rather than never to have loved at all. My only comfort is tearing Adam Smasher appart, every time i play the game.
This piece of peakfiction while the ending isn't what we wanted it's what we needed and thats what makes it one of if not my favourite anime and one of my favourite pieces of media ever

Learning to suffer for the sake of each other in the face of adversity, shielding each other from harm, whatever the cost, however painful it may be, going forward and overcoming the obstacles that life throws at us making any necessary sacrifice. Not for our sake, but for the sake of the person we love. David and Lucy embodied this bond perfectly, and this is what makes their story special.

Wow, this was a genuine ride... I have been watching AMVs for a long time, but lately, most are just slideshows on popular music. Every now and then, u hit one that goes under the radar, and has really good direction. Unlike others I've seen, here the visuals complement the lyrics, and THAT is what an AMV is supposed to be. Amazing work, U've earned a SUB. Hope to see more great works.

My first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 was female V. I just finished my second playthrough with male V. Having done this and also watched Edgerunners, this song hits me in the feels.
Such an emotionally charged song that suited the emotional and tragic ending to this superb Cyberpunk Anime series. RIP to the Afterlife Legend, David Martinez & loyal EdgeRunner friend, Rebecca. Whilst also Gotta feel sorry for Lucy for losing pretty much everyone she cared about. Her friends & her boyfriend, David. At least she made it to the moon & David made it to the top of Arasaka tower.
I really love the way their romance is shown. In the beginning when David was unsure of how Lucy felt the viewer wasn't as doubtful. Whenever he was in danger Lucy looked so scared. And the first time they met and spent time together felt truly magical to me. And *spoiler* the death of his mom also hit me really hard. Especially when the medics just left here on the ground to die because she had no status. The saddest thing ever. Overall a masterpiece especially when it comes to portraying emotions. (BTW I am still very emotional about it. I finished watching it a few hours ago).

You forgot that Lucy has been into old net for several years inside a arasaka facility, imagine not seeing the sun for years and believing you are inside moon? after she discovered the lies ofc her dream would be to know how real moon actually is, and accomplishing that with the help of david only make the "Sad ending" actually be a good ending, because after all years of suffering she had, finally got what she dreamed (Peace)

Isn't that inherent in the name Edgerunner? I thought that meant they are running on the edge of losing themselves and they all go over eventually. Some are brought back with therapy and downgrades but never fully recover. Most of the time psychos are just put down in NC.

7 months later and i still cry over cyberpunk edgerunners
Yeah. My original experience with the show was when this song randomly popped up in my Recommended section and I listened to just a few seconds of it. I thought "hey, this looks pretty cool," and proceeded to watch the first episode out of curiosity... then immediately watched the next, and so on until I ended up finishing the entire anime in one sitting. Cut to now, about 6 months later and I still hear this song and instantly flash back to that scene with David and Lucy on the moon, Maine's and Becca's last moments (mainly their corpses), and all the themes of sublimated trauma throughout the show. It took me about a month of listening to this song nearly every day, and playing it back in my head in all of those little moments between doing something, to finally feel a bit less "something" when I listened to it. This song is fucking magical.

Lucy breaking David out of the ambulance and riding the gurney down the road is one of my favourite pieces of animation - it captures that wild, transgressive, scary feeling of someone bursting into your life, and falling in love with them, that manic smile Lucy does down into the camera is perfection.

I love how we get to see the world through David's literal eyes. This is all new to him, which makes his connection to Lucy even stronger

I've never been this heartbroken after finishing a show. The pain in lucy's eyes at the end makes my heart hurt every single time and I wish it could've ended happily, though it's still a masterpiece in any cases.
the only time i ever got this close to being heart broken after a show was after akame ga kill. that show was really good, i never expected it to get surpassed by cyberpunk edgerunners though.

The ending to Darling in the Franxx had me in tears, but this one was on a whole different level.

I think the message was that he didnt really keep all the promises he made, but fooled himself into thinking he did, because that was the best he could do in that shitty situation.
He went to the top of Arasaka, but was that really what his mother wanted for him? To fly up there for a few seconds in a fight against Arasaka? Or did Lucy really want to end up on the moon all by herself? No, the moment those 2 got closer, Lucy's dreams changed. She just wanted David to be alive, the moon was secondary at that point.
One promise he did fulfill was the promise to Maine. He became a great leader and a night city legend just like Maine wanted him to.
But thats why i find it so awesome. It isnt just a happy ending like in most other animes, its a bitter-sweet ending. Even though nothing turned out the way they wanted it to, they tried making the best out of it all by keep fighting for their loved ones, not just for their safety, but also for their dreams. Like Lucy still going to the moon because David wanted her to go, even though it wasnt her goal at all anymore...

He did, he was in top of arasaka, even if it was not in the hierachical way, he turned into a legend something that only few could do in that shithole. Even if he was sucessfull and got on top of corporate level, he would never be a legend.

What gets me is how things might have been different if they had confided in each other rather then protecting each other. David and his worry of possible psychosis and Lucy with protecting him from saka…. It was always gonna end this way, cause it’s who they are. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking.
It's a better story then Romeo & Juliet, in my view. But just as in R&J, if the two of them had communicated more clearly and effectively with each other, David & Lucy could have reached a better compromise; like just leaving Night City behind.
I think wherever they are, so long as they're together, that would have been the moon to Lucy.

還沒遇到David之前，Lucy最大的願望是登上月球，但其實在一起後Lucy一心只希望David能永遠待在自己身邊，無論要付出多大的代價也要確保他的安危，那便是她最大的夢想，早已忘記當初David承諾與自己攜手去月球的事。
David因為不夠強大，總是保護不了身邊的人，母親亦或是團隊夥伴，因為Maine的犧牲讓他下定決心，即使燃燒自己的身驅也要保護剩下珍惜的夥伴，無懼會變成神機錯亂者的風險，而他一輩子都在替別人的夢想努力，連到最後也不曾忘記與Lucy承諾的約定，這是讓我覺得最不捨的點。
還沒看過這部之前我無法完全理解銀手的行為，我只覺得很幼稚、很自私，直到看完這部前傳，極強的帶入感和所有角色「人性化」的一面加深我對2077的世界觀，以及銀手為何這麼做的原因，當初玩遊戲破台也沒什麼感覺，任何結局的選擇對我來說都沒什麼共鳴度。當時玩過遊戲所以大概知道David最後的結果會是什麼，一直不去往這層面想的一集一集看完，直到最後一集這件事實又狠狠的往我臉上打一記重拳。
很少有一部作品能夠讓我有這麼大的心境起伏，那種到頭來你無法改變什麼的無力感，以及想轟轟烈烈的做了什麼改變這城市、這該死的世界，但對其他人和夜城來說，隔天卻像什麼都沒發生一樣被忽視，但也許到頭來這些也都不重要，只要身邊重視的人們能夠過的平安就好。
没错，就像许多的夜之城的传奇的故事，这个城市会吞噬人的梦想，或许我们该为trigger没特意去制作所谓的（皆大欢喜结局）而感到欣慰，因为他们至少体现了这个城市里的无奈和种种不堪的一幕，以及最后让David燃烧了生命成功守护了lucy的梦想来收尾是一个再适合不过的“赛博朋克”风格的故事了吧。
我所有角色都是星星結局 逃離夜城 即便時間很短 跟愛人在一起才是最好的結局
其實最無奈、掙扎、難過、悲傷的都是蕾貝卡吧，從答應大衛不論如何都要幫他打入藥劑的當下，她的悲傷只能從他的表情出推敲出來，終究她也跟大衛永遠在一起了
整部戲的帶給人的無力感真的很重….

I served in the military for 13 years but I’m against war, I stayed in only because I had no where else to go at the time, I got out and wondered, my dad died when I was in and we were close and I had no one after that so I relate to David. This just shows why Cyberpunk: Edgerunners got a 100% Rotten Tomato score and 97% Viewer score. Best Netflix original surpassing Castlevania and Devilman Crybaby by a lot. I'm so fucking proud of David and how he became the man he dreamed to be.

I think the end matches really well with the cyber punk theme. It is hard to watch them go away but it is necessary to build this bitter sentiment and attachment to the characters.
Different comments in different languages but we all loved the story of a young man who died for the dreams of his loved ones
I just can't get over this masterpiece. Every aspect of the show was incredible. Only 10 episodes long yet I was instantly connected to the characters. Many tears have been shed. Quiet life or Blaze o glory, the only ways out of night city.

I can't stop feeling depressed at this song, but I can't stop hearing it due to all the feelings involved. I really can't begin to describe the degree of masterpiece this anime is... anyone living in a big city with a humble background and great ambitions can relate to it in such a deep way. I'll never forget it.
The English language doesn't really have the capacity to describe this. The chasing of melancholy feelings for no other reason than to feel them. This postmodern era we live in has so many of us completely emotionally distant from each other, so we pour that emotion into fiction such as this, in the hopes it provides as much validation as we crave.

The ending although expected was so devastating and bitter sweet, I legit could not stop thinking about it for a whole week. 當我知道2018還在籌畫遊戲的時候，CD Projekt就決定要和日本動畫公司合作出屬於這款遊戲的動畫

There's a saying I forgot where but it goes "the best stories always end in tragedy". This could have been a very different story but these flawed people who didn't know how to open up and communicate are so humanely relatable that it could have only ended the way it did.
A beautiful tragedy... thats the only words i can really describe this show with. Its such an amazing anime series, it does everything right, it feels utterly brief, like a cool breeze on a scorching hot day, touches you and leaves you wishing for more.
Hearing the song after watching the show can actually unexpectedly take your breath away as you feel the entire emotional rollercoaster all over again. This will go down as one of the most complete anime series ever... it starts, it tells a compelling story, and the story has a conclusion that forgoes the "too be continued?" nonsense that so many shows do these days.
This mv really told the entire story in just 4mins 🥺

Wow, this was a genuine ride... I have been watching AMVs for a long time, but lately, most are just slideshows on popular music. Every now and then, u hit one that goes under the radar, and has really good direction. Unlike others I've seen, here the visuals complement the lyrics, and THAT is what an AMV is supposed to be. Amazing work, U've earned a SUB. Hope to see more great works.
Once you realize David has multiple direct references in the game from day one its easy to see why this show is so good. Years of passion and planning.

My first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 was female V. I just finished my second playthrough with male V. Having done this and also watched Edgerunners, this song hits me in the feels.

Such an emotionally charged song that suited the emotional and tragic ending to this superb Cyberpunk Anime series. RIP to the Afterlife Legend, David Martinez & loyal EdgeRunner friend, Rebecca. Whilst also Gotta feel sorry for Lucy for losing pretty much everyone she cared about. Her friends & her boyfriend, David. At least she made it to the moon & David made it to the top of Arasaka tower.
I really love the way their romance is shown. In the beginning when David was unsure of how Lucy felt the viewer wasn't as doubtful. Whenever he was in danger Lucy looked so scared. And the first time they met and spent time together felt truly magical to me. And *spoiler* the death of his mom also hit me really hard. Especially when the medics just left here on the ground to die because she had no status. The saddest thing ever. Overall a masterpiece especially when it comes to portraying emotions. (BTW I am still very emotional about it. I finished watching it a few hours ago).

something i don’t see anyone ever mention was when David fully installed the cyberskeleton, his mother’s jacket flew off of him: he’s lost his grip on what’s held him so down to earth, until Lucy brings him back down. The two people he loved and held so dearly
i havent felt so much emotion watching an anime than before i watched this, it was by far the best piece of art i have seen in a while
Perfect example of Far East meets West. Both cyberpunk styles, animation, writing and music.
