If you want to know what it (really) should sound like, have a listen at the interpretation of the late Gustav Leonhardt on harpsichord. His “interpretation” is closest to taking the musician out of the equation, IMHO. The result is listening to pure music. If you’re not familiar with harpsichord, you might have to get used to that, though. Some people, like me, are hooked in an instant, others never get the hang of it. Up to now I strongly believed, that a piano can never replace the harpsichord, Bach originally wrote for. However, this interpretation by Nathalie Matthys proved me wrong!

Wow, the emotion evoked in the phrasing! Moving, but still subtle enough to never overwhelm the overall rhythm that remains highly structured. This way, the essence of baroque music is retained. Why Lol!? Of all performances you choose this one? Is it because you’re learning? Then you can do better. This is beginner’s interpretation with shortcuts, listen to a staccato’d (BUT not necessarily staccato, not being bias here) brilliant version that distinguishes the voices without shortcuts
Yeah, well, so you have a different preference, which is okay, of course. Could you give an example of a staccato’d version you prefer, and maybe a tiny little bit of context why you prefer it that way?
I legitimately don't remember the last time hearing anything by Bach, solo piano or otherwise, where I got chills listening. You play with the same passion I drum. Thank you for sharing. Made my day!
The Prelude is so odd. It challenges all the conventional melodies. But at the same time it has a unique sense of melody. That's the best way I can describe it.
Eventhough I will always prefer the harpsichord interpretation over a piano for Bach's pieces, I agree with al of those that stated that you played it marvellously! Instead of trying to imitate a harpsichord with a piano and/or channel Franz Lizst playing Bach, you just hit "the notes at the right time", as Bach himself used to say, and the beautiful music showed itself. Bravo!
