2011 Japan Earthquake - Tsunami Fast Facts
Here’s a look at the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March of 2011.
    March 11, 2011 - At 2:46 p.m., a 9.1 magnitude earthquake takes place 231 miles northeast of Tokyo at a depth of 15.2 miles.
The earthquake causes a tsunami with 30-foot waves that damage several nuclear reactors in the area.
Number of people killed and missing
(Source: Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency)
The combined total of confirmed deaths and missing is more than 22,000 (nearly 20,000 deaths and 2,500 missing). Deaths were caused by the initial earthquake and tsunami and by post-disaster health conditions.

i am japanese and remember this earth quake as one of my first memories at age 4. my mum was pregnant and we were walking down to the donut shop near our house. the ground started shaking like crazy and people started screaming. i remember clinging onto my mum and she told me to stay calm and a construction worker gathered everyone close and far away from the scaffolding. my dad later told me when he was at work the sky scraper swayed and all the computers slid off the desk he thought he was going to die. my little sister was at nursery and she still has anxiety about that till this day. my dad went to go and help the worst affected areas and he took some photos of the destruction. i look at it now and the tragedy of the disaster with a strange feeling

I remember watching this in the morning when getting ready for elementary school and wondering why there was a camera zooming onto the beach where the water was crashing. Then I realized that the water wasn't going back and that it wasn't zoomed.

I live in Los Angeles. We moved here after the Sylmar Quake, so the worst one I've experienced was the Northridge Quake on Jan 17th 1994. The tremor seemed to last nearly two minutes. The worst thing, to me, is the sound of 'solid' ground grinding and warping. There was all this liquefaction along an east-west corridor that paralleled Ventura Blvd, and my childhood home (where my mom still lived) didn't stand a chance. She lives in San Diego now and sleeps better at night.

The 2011 Japan Super Earthquake was first announced in Japan as 4.3 magnitude in the Earthquake Early Warning 1. Then, in the final version, it was announced as a magnitude of 8.1, and even this was much smaller than the original value. And after a while, the provisional value was announced as 8.4 on the scale. From here, the type of Magnitude changes. Until then, if it was the Magnitude of the Japan Meteorological Agency, from now on, it will be announced as a Magnitude that does not worry about saturation, called the moment Magnitude. The value of the moment magnitude was initially announced as 8.8. Then 8.8 --> 8.9 --> 9.0. That's why most of them now say that the Magnitude is 9.0. However, on July 11, 2016, the US Geological Survey announced that it would raise the moment Magnitude to 9.1.

Most of these tsunami waves are too close together to have any specific power, they may reach over the barriers but not enough to have any affect,it was the 3 waves that were 10 meters or 30 feet that had the major impact, they would have after subsidence of the coast have over whelmed any sea barriers.

The 2011 earthquake tsunami is a very sad accident. But the whole world needs to know about Japan's current atrocities. The Abe government stresses Fukushima is safe and forces it to eat. This is crazy. Fukushima was the site of the 2011 earthquake that caused the radiation leak. Does this make sense? It is also said to serve Fukushima food to athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In addition, Japan included Russian and Korean territories in its territory. Even though it's in a territorial dispute. Korea is in Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games ioc of Dokdo away used by requesting as a political policy issues. But Japan does not erase. It is also said that Japan uses the Rising Sun flag. The Rising Sun flag is like the Heikenkroichi of the Nazi war criminal war flag to Koreans. Millions of people were massacred under this flag. Japan has apologized, but does not reflect. Abe is trying to revise the constitution as a warlike state. It is also very likely that Fukushima radioactive water will be released into the Pacific Ocean. For the safety of mankind around the world, we recommend boycotting the Fukushima Radiological Olympics, not the Tokyo Olympics in Tokyo.
