    I think as collectors we all have the same mindset, we need these titles in our collections and if the studios refuse to put them out, then we will sort our own suppliers. If they do yield and release them down the line, then again as a collector we want official copies and we will swap them out. It’s who we are 👍 well said mate 👍😃👍

      Thanks Alan. I appreciate your perspective on this. I only purchase bootleg when there's no other option. Like you said us collectors will find our own means to obtain an unavailable film on physical.

    At one point, I would have expressed disgust at bootlegging. Now? I’m all for it, and onboard. If a studio, refuses to issue a physical product, then bootleggers rejoice! I will be first in line. I’m not someone who will pay for streaming services, as they have now made me MISS cable with the outrageous prices, and “exclusive” content. Hush, is a perfect example, as Netflix appears to have removed the film from its service…outrageous.

      Thanks for watching Lisa. I'm glad you agree . Tbf I was expecting more push back from people in the community about this subject. Some people are really against bootlegs (technically they should be as its piracy.) But I think I've made some valid points here 🙂

    At least it's way easier to get Bootlegs nowadays. Back in the 90's it was sending a letter to a Guy that had an AD in the back of Fangoria and then they would mail you a list of what they had then you mail back the list of what you wanted with a money order... and hope that you do not lose your money. Then one day outta the blue your VHS Tapes show up and you're SUPER EXCITED!!!

    I agree 100 percent, if the film doesn’t have an official disc release or if the official disc release is crazy expensive, then I don’t care if you buy a bootleg.
    However buying bootlegs can be risky because you don’t know if the picture quality will be good or not until you get it, the ones I’ve gotten have been good so far though.
    I own a few like Star Wars The Clone Wars season 7, Blade Runner Black Lotus, Death Note (2015) and none of these have had disc releases, I’d gladly replace my bootlegs if they ever did

    Great Video Jason you give an interesting point Disney is starting to remove content from it's streaming all the stuff they are removing don't have a physical copy anyway there is TV Show on RUclips before moving to Netflix the show is called Cobra Kai there no release of physical until a whole year after season 2 premiered they decided to release onto DVD only back in May/June 2020 but when the news broke out that the show might end at season 3 with RUclips but luckily Netflix brought the show off RUclips then Netflix decided to renew it the official Blu-Ray for seasons 1-2 came out December 2020 upto now season 4 only got a DVD release no Blu-Ray release it was said to come out early this year but still no sign but I think they might have delayed it to release it as Season 4 & 5 boxset

    Sometimes we have to circumvent the circumstances especially if a film is VERY unlikely to ever get a release; like you said if an official version pops up somewhere down the line then I'd replace what I have but until that happens we have to take shortcuts. A big example of a bootleg I own and I know is probably never going to be released is Song of the South - I love that film and I took a different route to get it, no regrets. Big difference between a mainstream release that doesn't require going down this path versus films that will always be held by the streaming services they are on - they force that hand of what collectors do to get a physical copy so I don't feel bad for them.
    Agree, mostly, with the basis on Shudder as they are often good at releases but I'm still bitter that there has been no official release of Mon Mon Mon Monsters in the UK 😔

    • @UnearthlyHorrors
      @UnearthlyHorrors  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching. That's pretty much exactly what I was getting at but you explained it much better than i ever could haha. Some of these studios just want all their content under lock & key; they choose how we consume them. So as long as they keep their movies locked away the more prone I am to acquire bootlegs as an alternative.

  • @doublebillmovies

    It's not the people buying bootlegs that could hurt the industry. It's the people who make the bootlegs in the first place but only because no money goes back to the creator or the studio who funded the release.
    You're 100% right though that collectors will go for bootlegs if an official release isn't available. Nothing wrong with that.
    Money will always be the problem. Like the Critters series. If it bombed, why would the financiers put more money in to putting it on physical media.
    All the streaming sites should add a Physical Media tick box ☑ on each title they add to their service. If enough viewers tick the box (and they don't hide away somewhere) they'll be able to gauge if it's worth doing a physical release.
    Good video Jason.
    Hope your throat gets better soon.

    • @UnearthlyHorrors
      @UnearthlyHorrors  Год назад +1

      Really appreciate your comment here. Definitely hit the nail on the head there. Money. Everything comes down to money. However, I have a slight rebuttal on this. You'll be surprised by how a film or series that bombs upon release but finds its audience on home video or rentals. Consequently, physically releasing a series that did badly on streaming may breathe new life into it and it may become a success after the fact. It's a big gamble though obviously.

    • @doublebillmovies
      @doublebillmovies Год назад +1

      @@UnearthlyHorrors No worries Jason. I guess that's what I was getting at. They just won't take the gamble anymore.
      Also, if there is an audience out there, why didn't the production get viewed in the first place?
      If a production doesn't make its money back from a Theatrical or Streaming/TV release, the industry won't take it any further.
      Marketing will play a big part. That's also part of the production budget though.
      It's all swings and roundabouts mate.

      Unfortunately for the average person, streaming is super convenient and obviously having space for a physical collection is a luxury most people don't have. Or don't want.
      Its a shame because in the grand scheme of things our physical media collection stays with us. Streaming will always delist stuff and will never have everything you want to watch.

I prefer to go for the Shout Factory release because it has all kinds of special features on it and it's the first original release on bluray.

    For me it depends. I don't have $35-40 to spend on a Blu-ray of something that isn't my favorite and/or is long OOP. I am okay with bootlegs in those situations. Some movies you also cannot get a legitimate copy on Blu-ray unless you're outside the US. Really wish these companies wouldn't be so greedy and would make MOD (made-on-demand) BD-Rs for people who want them at a reasonable price (thinking like $12-15).

    • @UnearthlyHorrors
      @UnearthlyHorrors  Год назад +1

      This is true. They're not pressed discs. This is why I'm always hoping for an official dvd or bluray. Because the quality does suffer.
      From my experience, bootleg blurays of out of print titles tend to be better quality due to the people using the a high quality rip of the original release.
      Like I said in the video as soon as an official release arrives or that out of print title gets a re-release, I'll be ditching my bootlegs and buying the official products.

    How those bootlegs work is someone downloads a pirated copy off of Netflix or whatever so therefore it’ll use the same junk bitrate they use and not what blu ray looks perfect at
