Sri Lanka galloped to a eight-wicket win in the Pepsi Asia cup final in Colombo with 79 balls to spare.
Sanath Jayasuriya played gloriously through the offside, captain Arjuna Ranathunga lit up the stadium with a thumping fifty , and Marvan Athapaththu saw the chase through from start to finish, as Powerful Sri Lankan's lineup served India a walloping first up. Chasing a half-decent (but far from daunting) 239 , Sri Lanka galloped home with 79 balls and eight wickets remaining. Long passages in their innings were more a celebration of their batting depth and fearlessness than a serious contest; Indian's bowlers were unable to contain them no matter which field or angle of attack they employed.

True. Indian cricket got stuck in the mud during mid to late 90s. We didnt had any fast bowlers except Srinath. Things got better only after Ganguly took over.

Better only against India during brief period post 96 world cup in subcontinental conditions. No match for Pakistan which was clearly best asian team in 90s.

Sri lanka was good only for 2 years in 1996 & 97. In 1998, India owned sri lanka in many matches. That year literally belonged to India and Sachin. From 1999, after Taunton massacre by Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, Sri lanka was just history....

@@try21 This same Sri Lankan team chased 280 against Pakistan in 38 overs vs Wasim, Waqar, Saqlain etc in 1998. Pakistan dominated in the early 90s not late 90s. This is why SL won 96 WC, 99 Aiwa cup, 2000 coca-cola champions trophy, 2002 Champions trophy finals tied, 2003 WC semi finalists , 2004 Asia cup win, 2007 WC Final, 2008 Asia cup win, 2009 T20 wc Finalists (Pak won this), 2011 ODI WC finalists, 2012 t20 WC finalists, 2014 T20 WC win, 2014 Asia cup win.
