This match made me fall in love with cricket. We were poor during those days and I had to watch this match standing outside through my neighbor's window. It was embarrassing for me and my father(who was also a big cricket fan). I vowed at a young age that I will become successful one day and not have to watch cricket in anyone's home. I did just that and I am doing alright in life now. Sometimes cricket can become more of an inspiration to viewers than players and that is exactly what happened that day. Thank You Dada for such wonderful play.

So nice to read of your success. I admire how you made a promise to yourself and then worked your way out of hardship into comfort. Your father and family must be very proud of you. You have set a perfect example to your siblings and cousins. May the Almighty continue to bless all of you and sustain your positive spirit.

Missed some overs in between... Watching Robin and Ganguly (have been a Ganguly fan) was joy but it was worth watching Mongia and Shreenath putting their best to steal a run at the moments. And that counted at last. No one knew....heart was pumping... this was a first ever chase like that.... When Kanitkar hit that boundary.....no words can describe that feeling. This was one of the best cricketing moment which I will never forget.
I was 12 years old when this game happened..watched this match live with my older brother and my mom on DD1..we all stood up in disbelief when Kanitkar hit that shot...what a game!!!
PS: Azhar's plan didn't work out...oh dear look at the way he played...millions watching and praying for a win and he had other plans...utter disdain!!!

what spirit our team used to have to fight till the end. Srinath and Kanitkar keeping nerves cool and not missing the ball in the dark. Dada is called "God Of Offside" for a reason and you can understand that from the shots you see him playing. Just placing the ball and it races to the boundary in no time. Azhar and Jadeja, we probably see them with those eyes which i think is not appropriate as sometimes luck wont be in your favour and you may get out easily and also it was dark. Robins innings i remember was very supportive to Dada and he just missed by few runs for his century. He was a player who always played without keeping numbers in mind. Nice faded memory got refreshed with this video.

The time when there was an equal contest between bat & bowl. I'm not a 90's kid. I started watching cricket from 2004-05. Even those years were equally good. But everything's changed with the growing popularity of IPL. Specially since 2012 onwards. Totally batting wickets, so much field restrictions, short boundaries, free hits and so on. Result? 350+ scores every now and then. England just scored 481 a month ago. Like wtf!! 400 is the new 300 and it's not good for cricket😩

Dada applied his 'dadagiri' to the best of bowling attacks, especially Pakistan and SA. A phenomenal timer and elegant hitter. India's bowling did not always complement batting back then; otherwise Dada's centuries were more authoritative and would have materialised in the winning cause. He scored another MOM century against Pakistan in 2000 in Australia.

I was in 5th or 6th standard then, after Sachin got out, I rmember going out to play in the backyard...and found all my friends did the same :) Being in bengal which is very similar timezone like Dhaka, once it got dark we came back home and surprisingly found we still did not loose that match :) (for younger generation, in our time, chasing even a 215 would be impossible if a certain Sachin Tendulkar doesn't score a 85 not out at least)
Some cricketing shots I'll never forget from my childhood memory, and two of them from this match, Sachin's six off Mustaque, Kanitkar's winning stroke.....but for some reason my memory always told me Sachin scored a 13 ball 39...never fund the clip again before today...I was wrong...it was 26 ball 41...but the shots I remembered, were true :) Thanks for reviving the memory :)

I was 7 years old when I saw this in black 'n white Onida. I cried when Kanitkar scored the boundary. We lived in a village then, middle of nowhere. Loadshedding was rampant. Today BCCI is a multi billion dollar organisation. Players are financially safe. I am an Engineer,my brother a physician . The rise of India and rise of substantial portion of Indian Population is the biggest achievement. If this growth continues after 50 years we would definitely become a economic superpower. Jai Hind 🎉
