Clannad S1 is so underrated these days. Shame a lot of people write it off as just average and boring(compared to After Story) but I still think its still holds up and is better than a lot of shows of the same genre coming out nowadays. The one thing I wished that you mentioned is that most of what people say in this show has layers. Clannad was one of those animes you can rewatch every couple of years and still cry at the dango theme, i don't understand why some people hate part 1 it was very well written and helped the characters evolve to a realistic level, it wasn't just a love at first sight or tomoya trying to rizz on nagisa, both of them took their time trying to get along with other characters, the fuko arc wasn't bad as it was just okay until the wedding episode (that made me cry because i thought fuko was a real person and not some ghost lmao) part 2 was definitely the best part of the anime

So I have been on a Kyoto Animation bender these past three months, so of course I was going to eventually get around to Clannad. To say the visual style and subject matter aren't exactly my typical go to for an anime series is an understatement. I always avoided slice of life series for more action oriented fare. Here lately I deceided to get outside my comfort zone and explore a side of anime I have clearly neglected. Well I have to say Clannad totally wrecked me emotionally, more so than any other anime series or feature I have yet to see. Just the sadness of watching Fuko slowly being forgotten tugged at my heartstrings. The first season was fun and interesting and I enjoyed watching it, but we all know that this season is really just a setup for what comes next......
@@Totaraum While we're at it, do you have any movie editor recommendations? I have 2 different software but none of them are really flexible on the subtitle aspect (I want to write the subtitles for my own video)

Man, what a great video, and what a great anime! After having finished After Story about half a month ago, it's still lingering with me and consuming me. I'm happy I have patience and didn't drop it during Fuko's arc, because to say that I was rewarded tenfold would be an understatement
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, if I were to change anything about the first season I’d make Fuko’s arc just a little shorter. The more people that end up sticking around to experience the full story, the better
yeah, looking back I think I disagree with my complaint about it now. It deserved to be as long as it is, I guess I just wish there was a choice in the matter of which arc to tackle first. that's what the visual novel is for though, right?
This video was fantastic. I watched Clannad and After Story last year and loved it so much. I wanted to watch it again right away but restrained myself so I could watch it with my friends at our weekly anime night. Covid restrictions cut us off right before we started the Nagisa arc... (thank god we weren't already in After Story though). It's been half a year now and the waiting is killing me! This video was like a shot of dopamine to help keep the craving at bay lol. Now to watch your After Story vid!
Watching this doesn't really tell me anything new, it just reminds me that there are other people that have appreciated and loved this series as much as I have. I hope that you do one on Tomoyo After (VN) as that's a little more obscure on account of not being adapted into anime format
As much I love this anime I don't recommend watching this. Just the simple fact that it is very extreme psychologically. I know cuz I was contently thinking about it for like 3 days and now I have PTSD 😂
Needed this after seeing trash taste call S1 boring. I don't get it I think its just as enjoyable as most of the more popular slice of lifes even if it isn't on After Storys level.
It’s hard to say for me too, but that seems to be the popular opinion. I always sink into my chair a little when I hear trash taste bring up season 1 lol
@@Totaraum Its even weirder when The Anime Man always claims he's a huge Clannad/Maeda fan but agrees with S1 being boring despite him also having the VN in his favorite games.

@@Totaraum Hello Mr.Totaraum I have Finished the first Arc of the Show (the Fuuko Ibuki arc) Firstly This show from the start gave me mad Haruhi Suzumiya vibes. The shows kind of weird at the very very begging like first 5 min. And I there's some supernatural stuff as well. Something Haruhi Suzumiya doesn't have is the Feeling that oh gorsh man at anytime in this show something could go wrong. Again I've only watched the Fuuko arc but I thought at anytime something could bad and fast. This could only be me but I really liked that part about the show. Some thing I didn't like has the Fuuko Kinda went on and on and at the end of the arc I knew exactly what was going to happen. That being say I did really like the very end of the Arc Fuuko hugging her Big sis and accepting that people weren't going to be able to see her until she awoke up was Touching. Now I'll talking about the characters. Tomoya Okazaki is great he's very similar to Kyon from Haruhi but Different Enough to still feel like a different person yes he's a smart mouth lazy but he's caring to people he likes and is very outgoing and just kinda chill around other people that's something Kyon doesn't have. Nagisa Furukawa is another great charecter. Again just like Tomoya Nagisa , Nagisa Furukawa gives me mad Mikuru Asahina Vibes and again like Tomoya she different from Mikuru. I like how hard work Nagisa is her cuteness is very cute if you can believe it and she's very caring and she's willing to do something just because it will put a smile on a person face. Fuuko is a harsher Nagisa she has a sharp tongue like Tomoya and is lot more childish but she loves her Sister and worked very hard to hand out starfishes for her wedding. Next the last person I'll talk about in dept Youhei Sunohara I love this fool he's a moron a loveable one. He's the dumb friend we all have and we all love. Now the BIG BOI problem the slapstick IT"S NOT FUNNY. The slap stick is not used right in this show, Watching Tomoyo Sakagami beat Youhei to a pulp is not funny is makes me want to stop watching the show. That one scene were Tomoyo Sakagami pulls Youhei fingers until he falls down the garbage thing was animated spectacularly but the problem is how frantic and terrified Youhei looks it's just really really uncomfortable to watch. Ok now that that's all out of the way what are my thoughts of the show. Well to real this show is good but nothing is making you say wow this show is great. I mean it good but with slow pacing really really bad slapstick. The shows not bad but any means but nothing (so far) has blown me away I like the Characters the story is good but it doesn't have that extra push just but I'm hopeful if the show explains the Characters and fixes the pacing I think this show could be great. 78/100 (edit) The Dub is good sometime but I'm going to be real if I didn't like dub a lot more than sub I would most likely watch the show in subbed. And I'll be back again when I watch more
@@godzillaman123 Cool stuff, I'm glad you're going through with watching the series! I like all the comparisons you drew between Clannad and Haruhi, they were adapted pretty close together so it makes sense. I gotta agree with you on the slapstick, but while I'm not the biggest fan I do love all the other jokes. Looking forward to hearing more!
@@Totaraum Ok ok I just watched ep 14 and I think that's the end of the Kotomi arc. Wow that was so good. Ok I'm going to get some the smaller problem I have out of the way Firstly the Dub isn't great it's ok but It has some problems. Next the arc takes I long time to pick up there's a little bit of time that just isn't that eventful. That's about the only bad I have to say. Now Characters Kotomi is just great she's cute as heck and the tragedy of her parents is just so sad and I will say I think she act a lot more hurt about what happen to her than Fuuko did so I felt alot more sad about Kotomi than Fuuko. Next Tomoya Okazaki I said he was alot like Kyon from Haruhi but next I can't say than. The more i watch Tomoya Okazaki the more I like him. He seems like a really really really great dude and I can't just ignore how funny and caring he is. Nagisa Furukawa is great was well. The main problem I have is she doesn't really change at all in this arc but if she changes it will be in her own arc so I'll talk to you then. Kyou Fujibayashi is the most changed in this arc not named Kotomi but I really like Kyou Fujibayashi in this arc a lot more than the last I get to see a lot more of her good side and not just her bullying people around. I like how the stapstick is a lot more turned downed and when it does happen it's alot more funny because Tomoya Okazaki gets on her nerves first so it kinda deserved. Next thing I need to talk about is the Soundtrack I don't mean the ops just the background noise. Music in the show is great just great. It's the best soundtrack in a anime a watched since Cowboy Bebop. There one track I really really love Track 4 Town, Flow of time, people. That track is great it always puts me on Edge and peeks my curiosity. Now I think the pacing of the arc was great I flowed well and it wasn't dragged out. Now Want to talk about 2 more things. Ep 12 the last 4-ish minutes When Tomoya Okazaki was entering to Kotomi's house that was a great scene. The music and camera work add alot of intensity and curiosity to the scene. The way Tomoya Okazaki walks up the stairs in the dim light was incredibly well done. I like the fact Tomoya Okazaki and Kotomi were friends as kids idk it's just cute. Lastly the ending of the arc. That ending was to incredibly beautiful and sad the way Kotomi has to accept her parents death to break out of her shell and start living life to the fullest is so astonishingly Beautiful and sad it made me cry for like 5 minutes or something. The last shot of right before the birthday party to end episode and arc was magnificent. I don't have many bad things to say about this arc it was great from start to finish. The first eps of the arc weren't very eventful but they were still fun. The last half of the arc is something I with remember for the rest of my life so thanks Totarum for showing me this show. I'll talk to you next arc bye bye.
@@Totaraum Hello Mr.Totaraum It's me I'm back and I watched the Tomoyo Sakagami arc I'm at season or volume 2 ep 6 that's the end of the arc I think. Not first I need to thank you Totaraum for getting me to watch this show. This arc is my Favorite so far. First I need to talk about Tomoya Okazaki holy crap I love this dude a lot. He's my 4th favorite male character out of all the anime I've seen. I love how caring he is I love his humor I like how he doesn't take things to seriously unless it's about Nagisa Furukawa. I love Tomoya Okazaki a lot I really do I could go on and on about things but I will not. Now Tomoyo Sakagami She was my Least favorite character for a good long time in this show. I didn't hate her or anything but I just didn't like her. This arc changed anything like most of the characters she's caring and sweet to Tomoyo Okazaki. I love the Chemistry Between her and Youhei Sunohara there just funny together. Something I like a lot is that Nagisa Furukawa isn't in this arc. With Nagisa gone it really helps the other characters in this show well show other side about them. Now the best reason I really really love this arc the Romance. I'm a sucker for a good Romance story and this arc hit the nail on the head. I love seeing all the girls slowly start to get feeling of love around Tomoya Okazaki. I like how the show takes it's time to let the character fall in love with Tomoya Okazaki. The last scene where Nagisa gets back to school then gets hurts and Tomoya Okazaki donsn't let anybody touch her was so bittersweet. Now I only have 6 more eps left of the first show I think. I'm watching the After Story like right after I watch the last eps. But thanks again for showing me this show I love it a lot I really do. That's all Totaraum I'll tell you about the last arc later
Hmmm was my comment taken down? I just wanted to repost part of it again just in case, but can you please do analysis video on different routes of Clannad in visual novel?? Thank you for watching! I’m happy to hear you liked it
Glad After Story is getting a separate video :)
THE INTRO WAS SO GOOD OMFG
Thanks!
This video inspires me to make a Clannad appreciation video on my own. Time to research!
That sounds great! Please let me know when you finish it
@@Totaraum Sure. Let me subscribe so I can remember
@@Totaraum While we're at it, do you have any movie editor recommendations? I have 2 different software but none of them are really flexible on the subtitle aspect (I want to write the subtitles for my own video)
@@choi-r7108 I personally use premiere pro because that's what I learned editing on, but if you don't want to fork over an arm and a leg to buy it I've heard amazing things about davinci resolve 17 and it's completely free
@@Totaraum I tried adobe premier briefly before but I'm confused, guess I'll look at this davinci resolve. Thank you very much
It’s amazing how your channel manages to feel the void Clannad left in my heart. I just can’t get enough off it! Please keep going!
OMG the intro. Amazing
You deserve so much more recognition, keep at this
Thank you! I’ll be sure to keep at it

Watched the after story one before this nyehehehe.
I see your Hyouka journey in my recommendation will be eating that one soon
Love this video👍🏼
I couldnt get enough of Fuko. Her arc could have been even longer for me
yeah, looking back I think I disagree with my complaint about it now. It deserved to be as long as it is, I guess I just wish there was a choice in the matter of which arc to tackle first. that's what the visual novel is for though, right?
@@Totaraum
Yeah exactly :)
Definitely one of my favorite reviewers im hype to see more 🤝🤝
Thanks! I’m glad to hear it
This video was fantastic.
Haha I know that feeling of delaying a group watch due to COVID. Thanks for the kind words!
Like always a 10/10 video , man love your videos !
Thank you! I’m happy to hear you enjoy them so much
Here I am, revisiting condensed feels, and then you put in some RvB. Fuck man, this was made for me.
Watching this doesn't really tell me anything new, it just reminds me that there are other people that have appreciated and loved this series as much as I have. I hope that you do one on Tomoyo After (VN) as that's a little more obscure on account of not being adapted into anime format
CLANNAD is a masterpiece
CLANNAD ~After Story~ is so life-changing I hesitate to call it "fiction"
As much I love this anime I don't recommend watching this. Just the simple fact that it is very extreme psychologically. I know cuz I was contently thinking about it for like 3 days and now I have PTSD 😂
It may be a little hard to stomach for some people, but I'd say the benefits far out weigh the costs
@@Totaraum I agree
I still have some PTSD, And my gosh do i love this anime.
Just read my comment on After story, My thumbs hurt from typing that out.
Look at Tomoya’s lesson he learned at the end of After Story
i loved the spoiler warning XD
I've never never cried until i played Clannad
[the sads]
Edd Saying that hurts me more
I think i preferred the 1st season, the 2nd was mind blowing but so sad
True, but I think part of what makes the second season so good is how gut wrenching it is
At least Clannad doesn't end like Air :D
Oh boi the second season is something else I'll tell you that much 😂
indeed
Needed this after seeing trash taste call S1 boring. I don't get it I think its just as enjoyable as most of the more popular slice of lifes even if it isn't on After Storys level.
It’s hard to say for me too, but that seems to be the popular opinion. I always sink into my chair a little when I hear trash taste bring up season 1 lol
@@Totaraum Its even weirder when The Anime Man always claims he's a huge Clannad/Maeda fan but agrees with S1 being boring despite him also having the VN in his favorite games.
@@julohans6157 yeah, idk. I guess it's weird that he sat through the visual novel but got bored with the anime but it's probably been years since he's touched the vn
Pfft, 65 hours, that’s child’s play, I’ve gotten over 120 hours out of the original VN not even including Tomoyo After and Side Stories.
Ha ha ha....
What am I doing with my life?
I'm still < 10 hours gameplay and no I'm kinda scared
I played 50 hours in and its not even close to end :D
progress update; 58 hours gameplay, 5 light orbs collected. I heard there are 14 orbs in total, so... yeah, not even half of the content
Hey i really really what to watch this video but I've never seen clannad so just wondering if the anime is worth the watch
Absolutely it is, go watch it and I'll wait here to hear your thoughts
@@Totaraum Hello Mr.Totaraum I have Finished the first Arc of the Show (the
Fuuko Ibuki arc) Firstly This show from the start gave me mad Haruhi Suzumiya vibes.
Again just like Tomoya Nagisa ,
Nagisa Furukawa gives me mad
Mikuru Asahina Vibes and again like Tomoya she different from Mikuru. The slap stick is not used right in this show, Watching
Tomoyo Sakagami beat Youhei to a pulp is not funny is makes me want to stop watching the show.
The more i watch
Tomoya Okazaki the more I like him.
Would especially be interested in breakdown of kyou's arc since I want to understand more of what made it special seeing as the anime did not do it justice and curious to know how and why that is since never played her arc in the game
I hate it when this happens, sometimes comments just disappear and there’s nothing I can do about it. I am planning on covering the visual novel at some point though!
@@Totaraum lol I was able to find it agian...anyways thanks man your videos are amazing will totally keep supporting and rewatching
@@MamiSenpaiSensei I’m happy to hear that! Glad to have you on board
have you by any chance read tomoyo after? its an after story to the tomoyo route in the original clannad visual novel
I own it but I haven't started it yet
@@Totaraum you really have to check it out although I'd say that the nagisa route true end was more enjoyable because the whole story came together I'd actualy say that the tomoyo after route is better written and has a better ending as a fan of clannad you have to check it out it's a must
@@furudo_erika8094 I’ll be sure to give it a look!
@@Totaraum be sure to tell me your thoughts on it!
@@furudo_erika8094 It'll probably be a bit before I get to it, but I'll try my hardest to remember this comment when I do. No promises though lol
Even after all of these years, I still see fuko as being worthy of being bulli'd
What anime are you referring to when you said “young sibling”?
I was referring to clannad after story, clannad’s second season
Did you diss the Dub? The Dub is for this perfect.
Just don't do what I did and watch your lie in April after clannad after story. Mistakes were made.
🤔 Clannad as a polygamous harem anime?
What would that be like?
we would have an ending where you can date the two Fujibayashi sisters at the same time :D
